I don't give a fuck if you believe it is man made or natural, because we will never really know because we aren't that good at this whole data and science thing. But I am tired of all these high school drop -outs, dudes who have never even lifted the pages of a book that was at all enlightened, and or informed and not just opinion or some story book to entertain his caveman joys.

Too many retards in the world saying "global warming is a myth"

I ask those retards to go take a trip to the north where eskimos are literally losing their houses to the sea because the ice they were built on that never melted in hundreds of years is going now. I ask these skeptics to visit nepal and tibet where their only source of fresh water is rapidly melting away....that being the glaciers in the himalayas, which they know once they start to dwindle and all out war with china and india will ensue, seeing they both get 90 percent of their fresh water from the glaciers too.

Confusticate these morons please! "Global warming is are a myth because of tham thar emails that got leaked" yea, awesome evidence guys, weigh that against all the evidence around the globe that points to the world going to shit.

I mean, even if the climate wasn't changing, which it is whether or not it is our fault, we still need to stop dumping chemicals into the ocean, air, and soil, and stop raping our resources, and stop reproducing so much, and consuming so much.

Fucking mongoloid skeptics, they just don't want to feel guilty about eating their hot pockets and driving their f-5000 fords, that they don't put anything into the bed of.

and I love the fact that all the detractors of climate change's biggest piece of evidence is an email, and the fact that "da world is getting colder some places, and winter is still coming"

they still haven't realized global warming was just a bad name, and that climate change is the warming of some parts, but the freezing of others, think ice age. I mean, we are probably on the cusp of another ice age, getting warmer first in some parts.

toggletoggle post by TheRidersofDoom  at Dec 17,2009 7:45pm
oh here is something that sounds totally sound and scientific from skeptics

"The biggest legitimate link involving CO2 is with plants. We know that increasing CO2 increases plant growth and crop yields. CO2 is essential to all life forms on earth. Treating it as pollution is about as absurd as believing we can predict our climate 50 years from now. We also know that the warmer our planet has been in the past, the more life it supported. The most devastating blows to creatures on earth from temperatures came from cold."

toggletoggle post by TheRidersofDoom  at Dec 17,2009 7:47pm
yeah because the planet being warmer won't wipe out half of all major cities situated on low lying coasts... and yea, co2 is totally our friend, us humans that can't breath it in, also...more crops...yeah, too bad we kill all the trees that change that co2 into oxygen

and also, back in the day when there was more life as that commenter puts it, there was more oxygen in the air than now.

Were those the books that legitimate skeptic scientists were bullied out of because they had a different conclusion?

You mock the "biggest piece of evidence" being "an email," without acknowledging the fact that it was actually tons of emails (and the deletion of more emails) from 10 years ago to only 2 months ago which showed high levels of scientific malfeasance and the aforementioned bullying of detractors.

And are MIT professors of meteorology "high school dropouts?"

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142405...748703939404574567423917025400.html

I understand your need to demonize people who disagree with you as dumb hicks; it's the only way you can dismiss scientific fraud of people like Al Gore who say the earth's core is millions of degrees and that the polar caps will melt in 5 years and that Katrina was "only the beginning" because Bush didn't sign Kyoto.

It's the only way you can dismiss the importance of CO2 as plant food. It's the only way you can dismiss that "a doubling of CO2 would only upset the original balance between incoming and outgoing radiation by about 2%." It's the only way you can justify ludicrous ads where polar bears are falling from the sky.

It's the only way you can deal with demanding Kyoto be signed, even though if every country signed onto it the earth's warming would only be slowed by .05 degrees or something ridiculously insignificant.

It's the only way you can be smug in your arrogant ignorance of a differing viewpoint. Welcome to 21st century politics. You'll do well here.

Once again, you show just how ignorant you are of what skeptics are inclined to believe. There's really no point in talking with you if you can't understand what my viewpoint is to begin with, but I'll indulge.

Skeptics, for the most part, believe that climate change ALWAYS HAPPENS (not that it never happens).

Skeptics believe that warming is due mostly to the sun (you know, that place where it's really hot and is responsible for keeping us warm enough to live) and because we're still coming out of the Little Ice Age.

Skeptics believe (and can prove reasonably well) that the earth was much warmer in the middle ages. Skeptics believe that cleaner emissions is a good thing, but reducing emissions by cutting back the standard of living is trillions too expensive for a pointless endeavor.

Skeptics rightly believe that most of the greenhouse gases involve water vapor. They also rightly believe that, yes, C02 IS PLANT FOOD.

That's all I feel like typing. I need a shower now.

I am a heathen, and the wild disappears because all the civilized people want their starbucks and walmarts everywhere

You are one ignorant fuck. You don't even know what skeptics are saying. Apparently you're from NH, which is weird, because people from NH usually have more sense than the bullshit you're spewing.

It's funny you should bring up clear cutting. Were you against Bush's brush-clearing plan to cut down on Forest fires? How does it feel to contribute to the increase in forest fire intensity? DOES IT FEEL REAL GOOD???

It's a tough subject.... mainly because the evidence DOES point to climate change being real, and caused by man... but it doesn't prove it, and there is still room for people to say that it's all part of a natural cycle.

That being said... why wouldn't we wanna change over to sustainable energy? That's the part i don't get, it's almost as if the people who say it's a sham are using the lack of 100% concrete evidence to drag their feet on other issues that have to do with more than the climate. I realize how expensive it would be to totally change over to sustainable energy forms, but it would also help create a lot of new jobs...

I still think it's funny that my whole problem was with the people who don't believe in Climate change. I never said I believed the earth was getting warmer...which some people thought I did. And I never said it was all man made, we have had an influence.

The thing is this. Temperatures went up, melting of ice ensued, that water went into the water, slowed down and changed sea currents a little, thus we are not cooling down because the water is what really determines climate in an area.

And by the way, clear cutting to prevent wild fires is retarded, what should happen is people should 1, not build their million dollar vacation homes out in the woods, and 2, let fires happen the normal way.

The reason wild fires go crazy in California is because they don't let any fires happen, which is what kills the underbrush and detritus which causes them to be as bad as they are in California. In fact, the natives around here used to clear the undergrowth and burn the dead leaves around their villages for miles so that such fires wouldn't occur near them

But the reason California gets so uppy about it is because all the billionaires build their vacation mansions out in the deep woods, so anytime a normal fire happens, that is good for forest growth and clearing build up of fuel...they go ape shit and call the governor...thus just delaying and making it possible for bigger fires down the years.

Also, fuck Al Gore, and Fuck hippies, like I said before

So in conclusion, yes it is mostly natural, but it doesn't mean we shouldn't stop using fossil fuels, living unsustainable, raping our natural resources, and depleting biodiversity for the sake of our collective convenience and cheapness.

and not to mention, switching to alt energy is better for the environment, and our health, and our economy, as those jobs are local.

Imagine if they had to build wind turbines all along the maine coast and Mass coast...that'd be thousands of new jobs...and cheaper electric bills.

so in short, my beef is with the average joe who doesn't believe driving his f5000 ford and throwing away 50 tons of garbage, throwing his mercury coated light bulbs and his batteries in the trash matters. I have met plenty of people that think we should drill in Alaska and texas and we should erect nuke plants everywhere, and that recycling is a waste of time, and that they don't have an effect on the environment.

My solution, kill 90 percent of the world's people. Easiest, most effective way...solves world hunger too...mmmmm human jerky.

Uh, hold on. What's wrong with nuclear power plants? It is the one of the cleanest and most efficient forms of energy generation we have. Sure the waste is radioactive, but if taken care of properly it's NO BIG DEAL. Nevermind the fact they're finding ways to recycle the waste.

Until we can perform nuclear fusion, fission is one of the best ways to create massive amounts of energy. Wind, geothermal, solar, and wave energy can't make the massive amounts of energy a nuclear fission plant can.

I'm all for nuclear fusion when it comes. But look at it this way, if they said "Hey martins we are gonna build a nuke plant a mile from your house"
would you be Ok with it? Even though the risk of it blowing up is extremely small...if it does you and everyone around is dead without a shadow of a doubt. Not to mention...we have no studies about the long term effects on people who grow up near nuke plants. Who knows...it could increase your chance for cancer or something.

and Wind and solar tech is advancing rapidly every day, they now have solar panels that roll out like a thin carpet. Not to mention the energy they can generate is increasing all the time with new discoveries. I just think that Nuclear energy is too dangerous, and currently too toxic, to even bother with. But yea, it is clean energy, other than the waste that lasts 3 million years and has to be stored hundreds of feet underground, where it may or may not leak into the drinking water. But honestly it is better than most of what we got today.

Ok. I'm taking a shit so let me type this on the phone. It'd be much better if I was on a computer but oh well.
The bottom line is this:

people are only concerned with profit. whether it be monetary profit or personal profit, people only want to have empowerment. Sadly, this relates to everything from the global climate, all the way down to local politicians. Humans are full of greed and the immediate gratification of sucesss. The climate change bullshit is really all about big business. It's about the oil and energy tycoons wanting to capitalize off of controlling our lives and beliefs. The green craze is indeed good by many aspects (clean, renewable energy, etc) however they will be imposing a global tax on carbon emissions, which there is no direct proof of that having major affect on global climate change. Nobody wants to pollute, but there are people who want to make profit off of the situation, passing a global tax or law which ultimately robs national sovereignty. This is all about control, power, and money. Cap and trade, cap and trade. Money, big business, profit, greed, control.

What we need to do is unite against our overlords and oppose any law or tax they'll pass for thier agenda. Shift funding from military to energy and NASA. It's for the betterment of human civilization. Not a select few.

Facts: Global Warming is happening. There is no proof of what is causing global warming. Nobody knows beyond a doubt of what will happen.

There are just educated guesses to what may happen and why. However we can’t even predict localized weather. Good luck with Global Climate you fucks!

Food for thought.

Nobody talks about the possibility that Global Warming could increase biodiversity, and will most likely create milder weather(who knows).

Nobody talks about Global Cooling ( the idea the particles and debris we put in the atmosphere reflects sunlight so less joules of energy per square inch touches the ground) or its implications in combination with global warming.

The entire human race working toward one goal would be unifying, pointless or not. Could be a new dawn of humanity, where nuclear weapons and world peace co-exist.

Conservation is always* a good goal and should be strived for. (*this is a false for a number of reasons I don’t want to get into, but generally true)

The notion of a conspiracy implies multiple parties getting together to maliciously plan on destroying something. I just believe that countries all have their own interests, and third world/developing countries each see the climate change industrial complex as a means of getting money/power while kicking the west in the balls.

Worrying isn't doing anything. Corporations, IMF, NWO, all that will be meaningless in the next ice age. As globalization happens the division between first and third world countries will be reduced. The population will plateau, maybe resource wars will be fought, no matter what happens today. Then there will be a huge decrease in all life on Earth. There will be an opportunity for humans to evolve slightly.

Carbon tax is succeeding in lowering dependence on combustible energy in EU countries. Do carbon emissions cause climate change? It's a miniscule part of a bigger picture of the Earth's climate cycle. That along with deforestation and agriculture are the extent of our effect on the climate. How much is that effect? No idea.

Energy monopolies are a reason why the world hasn't fully embraced wind, hydroelectric, nuclear, and solar energy. I don't oppose a carbon tax IF we're given the option to plug into a 'green grid' but we don't have that option, we buy our energy from huge corporate monopolies. Energy corporations would pass on this carbon tax to the consumer. All you can really do about it right now is live off the grid. I don't seen anybody doing that. What else can you do about it? Write a letter? Shoot someone? Why worry about it? It's a recipe for depression, a trapping of our sentience. Live sensibly. Maybe you could get into politics, and realize how impossible it is to get anything done no matter what your intentions are. Or, be a scientist or someone else in the position to make an impact on the long-term survival of our species, no matter how small that impact is.

But we are so weak. We're built to live on a tropical earth. We like sex, drugs, music and art. We live 80 years and are useful for much less of that. If we can't grab planetary physics and space travel by the balls soon while we have the opportunity to do so, we're doomed. Communication and education are the key but greed will always exist. The next 1,000 years will determine whether we become extinct in 3,000 or indefinitely.

Aril, would you rather nothing was done in Copenhagen? Funding for science and NASA of course must happen but ineffective when we must protect our information and resources with a perimeter defense complex. Even though that would be awesome. I don't know the details of the agreement yet.

el nino was blamed for being warmed directly by these holes. however, it just so happens that el nino is mainly based in a region that has the most under water volcanoes in the world (japan/hawaii etc, right?) - so how can thousands of feet of water pressure that has never seen the sun be warmed so much by it?

that's basic science-not sure if those questions were answered or not already within the thread. once you research who is presenting and forcing this agenda-you can't help but realize we've been duped.

the real issue has always been OVERPOPULATION.

The hole in the ozone layer is not a cookie-cutter style hole. The ozone layer has different thicknesses in different parts of the world. Above the south pole it has always been thinner which is why depletion due to CFCs led to a "hole". Its really just a gradient of thick and thin and they called the thinnest spot a hole.

To think of it in a less "hole" type of way, it's actually a change in the density of particles in a given place.

I have nothing against you but this is the most retarded post ever made in the history of RttP.

In Precambrian times, wasn't the Earth's atmosphere comprised of methane and ammonia gases? The Earth was alive and existing then, or are you just concerned with an Earth that can sustain human/animal and plant life?

Human life...pfft lol.
I was just coming to type that.

Last time I checked, the Earth's original atmospheric gas was predominantly CARBON (hence the ability to "carbon date').

We'll be pushed out eventually.

Like I said before, no hybrid cars, I believe in mass transit and less ubran sprawl, for example, why the fuck do half the cities in NH exist? other than to cater to tourists and rich folk as summer homes and get-away retirement homes.

I'm all for living like a barbarian and killing my food, but there are too many people.

Kill all Humans, well at least bring us back to what it was like before the black plague, population wise that is.

and I care more about the current ecosystem than anything, yes I am biased towards the current era of life on earth, what we are going towards is a era of just humans, a few herbivores and scavenger species...

think rats, seagulls, pigeons, coyotes, deer, and all kinds of insects. Think less large mammals, amphibians, birds, reptiles, and fish

I believe 90 percent of all amphibians and reptiles are endangered in MA

They call them indicator species because they are the first to go as they are the most sensitive to change in ecosystems and pollutants. In fact, you can learn alot about the health of an ecosystem by the presence of certain species.

Yeah, but I don't care about most humans, just enough to get some metal and things I don't care to make myself...it's a vicious cycle!

But I don't know, I've spent my whole life watching nature specials, hiking, fishing, taking all kinds of sound biology classes. And I also know to take things with a grain of salt, hence I am totally against electric cars, they are a huggggeeee scam and not to mention, those batteries are highly toxic.

I'm just against the current lifestyle we have, dumping all kinds of toxins on our crops, which wash into the sea...hence less fish, coupled with overfishing...

If you take a class on environmental science and get a teacher who is informed, my teacher hated al gore and his religion, you learn that we are fucking shit up at an alarming rate...yes when we all die the world will renew itself, but honestly, if you have kids or are going to, do you want them to inherit this shit?

and we also live in America, so we really don't understand the costs of our life style, we pass that on to third world countries in the form of sending massive amounts of our garbage there, well Europe does that more than we do...

I guess my point is, kill more humans, build less cities

100% sure theist/atheist has got NOTHING to do with this debate. There are plenty of scientists who hold religious beliefs and also believe in climate change. I've been taught by 2 of them.

exactly. For instance, I'm an atheist because I know that Chad Kroeger invented the universe for the sole purpose of being able to rock your fucking face inside out. Which means I'm a theist. OH SHIT.

There has been evidence that polar bears are indeed slipping away or moving south. They've found a few polar bear / grizzly crossbreed bears which alludes that they moving further south. This, however, is being used as scheme to rub the "global warming" agenda in our face. It is not uncommon for many species to die or bottleneck when an ice age happens. Look at all the species that became extinct 10000 years ago. That's just a drop of water in the ocean of time; yet species have come and gone since then.
Either way, habitat conservation is vital. It is refreshing to see such pristine environments left on planet earth, far away from the civilized world.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2009...openhagen-climate-change-mark-lynas

Copenhagen was a disaster. That much is agreed. But the truth about what actually happened is in danger of being lost amid the spin and inevitable mutual recriminations. The truth is this: China wrecked the talks, intentionally humiliated Barack Obama, and insisted on an awful "deal" so western leaders would walk away carrying the blame. How do I know this? Because I was in the room and saw it happen.

China's strategy was simple: block the open negotiations for two weeks, and then ensure that the closed-door deal made it look as if the west had failed the world's poor once again. And sure enough, the aid agencies, civil society movements and environmental groups all took the bait. The failure was "the inevitable result of rich countries refusing adequately and fairly to shoulder their overwhelming responsibility", said Christian Aid. "Rich countries have bullied developing nations," fumed Friends of the Earth International.

All very predictable, but the complete opposite of the truth. Even George Monbiot, writing in yesterday's Guardian, made the mistake of singly blaming Obama. But I saw Obama fighting desperately to salvage a deal, and the Chinese delegate saying "no", over and over again. Monbiot even approvingly quoted the Sudanese delegate Lumumba Di-Aping, who denounced the Copenhagen accord as "a suicide pact, an incineration pact, in order to maintain the economic dominance of a few countries".

Sudan behaves at the talks as a puppet of China; one of a number of countries that relieves the Chinese delegation of having to fight its battles in open sessions. It was a perfect stitch-up. China gutted the deal behind the scenes, and then left its proxies to savage it in public.

Weather patterns ARE changing--you can see it best if you spend considerable time in the water--The tendency is to think that any type of 'trend' (be it social, political, financial etc.) is linear (which is also very egocentric in a way), when smart money knows everything is in a cyclical flow, a perpetual flux of excess and deficiency, of being and non being..

Chicken little said the sky was falling.....SO

Fuck it--

In the meantime, i will reap the benefits of the 'climate change.'
