those of you who drum, i have been considering a purchase of an axis double pedal for quite some time now (probably the x2)

a worthy purchase?
i was wondering what you guys who play them thought about them

not me.

definitley not worth the money you have to spend on it. the beaters hit so lightly that it takes triggers to make them relavent. in my opinion anyways

toggletoggle post by TheGreatSpaldino   at Jun 21,2004 10:34pm
well im sure you can adjust shit to make it different.

i have played them. never owned them. they are fast as fuck. the world record was set using them. most metal players swear by them. you can find them used wicked cheap for some reason. i use a tama iron cobra and i have the iron cobra junior for a backup pedal and i like them they are fast and powerful. i love the DW's they are just so god damn smooth. the 5000 is cool but the new 9000 is the shit. i hate the pearl eliminator. if you can find someplace that is a sonor distibutor(cause GC is not) try out the sonor giant step pedals. they have gotten awesome reviews and won best new drum hardware award from like 3 magazines. they are pretty pricey though.

with 2 iron cobras id get a sick new snare first. maybe some new hi hats. i hate mine.

My drummer will tell you that Axis are the kings of pedals. He uses two single kicks, with triggers but he doesn't need the triggers, we jammed for over a year before he got the triggers. The main thing is that at first, you almost need to re-train your feet cause they're a lot different but in the long run you can fly on them way faster than Iron Cobras or DWs. I'm a drummer too, raised on the DW 5000, I could hardly play his Axis pedals at first but once I started to get the feel of them they are nicer pedals. A lot less mechanics and gears involved, much smoother, much less maintenance.

my drummer needs a new double kick pedal but doesn't have the $$ at the moment... his left pedal has almost no drive left on it.... so hopefully it's not too noticable live

he's looking at the iron cobra's, and axis, but the axis is way too much. ($450-600)

I use the sonor giant step middle pedal and it is the shit!!! it puts the kik in th middle of the kit so you can do things like havin 2 rides and shit. I was chillin with the drummer of summon over this past weekend in N.C. he LOVES his axis pedals. he does not use the beatersa that came with them though. he uses bigger heavier beaters. His axis pedals also have built in triggers as well... He is sick and his pedals are sick. But axis are built for speed. if you want to hunker down into a big chug breakdown or something, sometimes they are so smooth you can't really fell that good "stomp/slam" to help you get into the music.

whats wrong with the "drive" of the left pedal? most likely he just need a new spring. depending on what pedal it is it can be adjust like 6 different ways. pedals dont just lose their power. springs stretch, cam shafts get worn, adjustments come loose, the elbow joints on the thing that connects the two pedals stick/get worn.

it's a pearl double kick pedal I think... I think he should just get a new one... I'm not even a drummer, but I'm pretty sure his double bass would get better with a better pedal.

he's not happy where he's at drummingwise, but the rest of the band has noticed a drastic improvement in his drumming just in the past few months... we're looking foreward to seeing his improvements.

now wondering about the dw 9000/9002 as Josh Hates You said
however its just about as much as an axis pedal, which do u think is morth worth the buck?

I have the DW 9002 dbl pedal. Its pretty nice. I bought a iron cobra and didnt like that, so then i got the 9002.........never going back.

I use a basic as pearl tw100 kick pedal and am upgrading to an axis longboard, cause I want to heel/toe and the extra foot board length is Crucial for this, if you doubt me, ask any chick, and she will tell you the 2 inches makes a big difference but back to drumming:

I tried the iron cobra, and quite liked it, but again no room to heel toe, I also tried the sonor giant step pedal with the heel toe thing, it was a fine pedal, but one thing bugged me about it, there is a mechanism on the footboard that stops the beater just after it would hit the bass drum, this annoyed my feet because it didn't feel right not being able to them all the way down, that said, I wouldn't mind trying on of the middle kick pedals. but in the end the Axis longboard won, if you want speed, NOTHING beats heel toe, and the only 2 pedals that enable you to do that with ease are the axis and the sonor, and as I said the sonor had a few niggle that meant I didn't warm to that pedal the way I did to the Axis, and plus the Axis is about $200 new zealand dollars cheaper so I am happy!

the only thing about those is they are poorly made, at least the one i played. if you're ognna play someting use either DW 5000 or iron ocbra, but even the iron cobra is over rated.

Bought my Axis's today, and for those who say they are shit, you do not know anything, they were by FAR the best pedal I ever played, (beating the Iron cobra and a few others) as for sound, if you move your foot up the foot board, you can do fast as fuck bass rolls, but very quiet, move you foot right down the other end and they are nice and loud, the way metal was meant to be played, as for build quality, they seemes mint, they even have their allen key set for all the adjustables. all in all, the best 899 NZD I ever spent!!!!

blow your pedals

toggletoggle post by NZ black metal drummer at Jul 3,2004 7:40pm
I intend to drum with them, blowing is what gets done to the drummer, not the pedal

toggletoggle post by Dissector   at Jul 3,2004 8:51pm
If you want to play fast they are definately worth the purchase since they are so light and they don't use a chain but a bar. But if you want to be heard (like i do) its not worth it, unless you use mics or triggers.

toggletoggle post by silky  at Jul 3,2004 10:22pm
the drummer for my band got an axis pedal off of ebay for like $180. I suck at the drums and I can rip it up on that thing.

toggletoggle post by menstrual_sweatpants_disco   at Jul 4,2004 9:18am
I suppose I'd never buy these pedals unless I played them first. Volume is important for me at least. Heel up, rimshots during blasts, and no smelly limpwristed one handed rolls.

bump,
im interested in a longboard pedal for heel-toe which neither the dw 5000 or the 9002 seem to accomodate for

im wondering if it's a big difference to get something such as the giant step etc

i want the dw 9000 but its pretty pricey, so those of you that have possibly played both the 9000 or the 5000, what did you think? worth the extra bucks?

DW5000 pedal is fine. 9000 is flashy shit for the same fags that want the Niel Pert Signature cymbals, etc. Had the 5000, dual chain drive; (fuck the single chain), for years. Tons of adjustments in deck height, drive, chain tension and configuration. Has memory locks, and soft or hard face interchangable mallets. You can score them on Ebay for $200-$250 generally.
