man, I thought the only BM girls liked was Carpathian Forest.
They have that Cure cover song....
Yeah - I'll post the address. I just don't want to jinx the license
by posting it ahead of time.
"Why would anyone want to book an outdoor black metal show?"
I was asked by the bands to book somewhere that wasn't a bar or a club.
But I don't want to close down any of the underground Providence spaces
by booking for bands that have probably have promoters and the like who would
post the address in the newspaper here. I don't normally book larger bands because I hate dealing with parasitical booking agents who say they understand
than fuck you. It's happened before around here. What the hell would a legal
venue be that isn't a bar or a club.
I guess the obvious choice to me was a parking lot?!?!?!
Does that give away that I grew up in the middle of nowhere in the 90's?
I'd personally rather hang out in a secluded abandoned parking lot than Club Hell... errrr.... ?????
this isn't also exactly a black metal show considering neither Thou nor WIWIC (formerly Master of Pussy) are BM

No idea what you just said to me. Don't give a shit. Just post the address when you have it so I can go see the goddamn show.
Regardless of the hipster bm that is Wolves in the Throne Room, WIW&C and Thou are both killer. Could take or leave the parking lot idea. As for other venues that are not a bar or club I have no idea but I'm sure both touring bands have played their share of basements, warehouses, living rooms etc. to know what the deal is about not posting the address publicly if the parking lot thing should happen to not work out.
I am going to be honest with you PippiZ. This show is totally hipster because of wolves in the Throne Room and I have a suspicion that you just want to capitalize on hipster BM. You set this show up to gain scene points just like how all the hipster bands intentionally don't play more than 3 times a year to make themselves more desired. Master of Pussy was okay when I saw them once and once only. Now they changed their name to be more hip and bm so fuck it. I hope no one goes to this. By the way. This whole not posting address thing til last minute is not cool and secretive. Its just hipster and gay.

I just don't get the "hipster" thing here. I think calling bands "hipster" is in fact a form of hipsterism. If people didn't bother calling things that, they wouldn't be to begin with. Once you leave your 20's and become a working person with bills and other adult things, there really isn't time to be bothered with such stupid shit. Grow up.
Hey
I'll post the address in about a week or so when the licenses are finalized.
It'll still be a month in advance of the show.
I have a hold on another venue in case of weather.

Wolves of the Pogrom just got added to this, we'll be playing all your favorites like (Racial) Cleansing" off of our Jew Hunters EP. Looking forward to ANTIFA's attempts to stop our anti-ZOG campaign of truth. 14/88

Dying Muse, you need to go fuck off and die. Ill state whatever opinion I want about idiot HIPSTERS. They are dirty posers that have invaded all scenes. That is why I now avoid "scenes". Dont give me a run down on your bills because ill smash you in your fucking mouth you idiot. If I see your dumb ass at any show in the future expect a spit in the face from me you retard. If you dont do shit about it ill punch you in you poser hipster sympathizer face.
...Just book the show indoors. No rain-out location. No funny business. Pretty please? Can we have one show that isn't a clusterfuck of figuring out where it's going to be?
Much of this thread is just so damn annoying... hipster this and hipster that... go fuck yourselves, each and every one of you. trolls or not. I'm gonna go to this show. If this parking lot this doesn't work out then you should have it at no problemo because fuck off i want a burrito.

The act of trolling is something children do, It's like a child screaming for attention. This kids mom didn't love him enough? That's what my 1st grade comment was about man. I don't see why people troll, and why people are fucking obsessed with scenster this and scenster that. Different strokes for different folks. If everyone liked WITTR it would be a pretty boring place. But judging a band or someone for liking a certain band and calling them scensters is shitty. You don't want to go to the show, don't go, it's pretty simple really. The point of a fucking message board it to talk and have conversations about shit, so if I try to converse with someone and I fall for a gay fucking troll trap so be it, I'll get it and just not post again. This dumb shit kills scenes.

Dude, I said back off and fuck off. Good job telling me minutes before I go to bed where you are so we can fight. Maybe if I wasnt so tired I could have demonstrated to everyone on here how good of a beat down I would have given you. Just wait til I see you and ill smash you in the face guaranteed you coward bitch.
Ha ha ha ArK, awesome knowing you are to tired to "smash" me in my face.
Stay in bed bro....the world needs a new hero, you aren't him, you aren't man enough. I'll be very scared though everytime I go to a show now ok, does that fluff your eago enough?

Now kids.... really. Take to your corners and settle down. Or, come to the show drunk and packing. Make it worth my time.
I'll prolly go man, sounds pretty badassed. If this guy wants to fight, I'm ok with it, if not, then sure I'll settle down. The point of my posting in the first palce was, yeah I am down with WITTR and I'd like to go to this show.
I will definitely be drunk at the show though, that's my MO as of late.
There's different kind of trolling. Innocent, playful, joking-around trolling, and angry shit-talking trolling. Tfe first kind of trolling is LOL and makes this site interesting. The 2nd kind is the ghey.
yeah, fights at shows are Ghey. Especially being hauled off in the patty wagon lol.

I support violence at shows. Real violence, not chest thumping rectal penetrating alpha of betas nonsense. By all means, the more aggresive and openly hostile the crowd the greater the energy the greater the chance for explosions. Home brew pyro for the Wolves.

wow. this thread is crazy. theres a cool show coming up in providence and all the sudden BAM utter nonsense and hatred. pippiz is fucking cool and has helped out so many touring bands from all over the world for years. so dont shit on her or the hard working bands that come play your town. just dont go to the show. plus, trendy kids in providence dont go to metal shows...ever.

Truth. They're all too busy jerking it to javelin and what cheer? brigade to give a fuck about good music. As for wittr, who cares if vice magazine got a copy of two hunters? They're the closest sounding thing to weakling since weakling, who everybody jocks. speaking of hipster black metal, members of weakling were in the fucking champs, but nobody brings that up. Just don't go to the show if it bothers you. I'll enjoy thou and wittr while you stew in the basement with your nydm backpatches.

Weakling with Josh from The Fucking Champs was the original hipster bm which was fucking awesome music.
I like Wolves in the Throne Room's first two, but they were pretty boring live at MDF and Weedeater is awesome live... I'm sure both will be super hipster though. =/
I love how these hipster BM discussions get under peoples' skins. Keep up the good work guys.
It's hilarious to see everything else that gets mocked here on a daily basis without notice compared to all the whining that goes on when hipster BM is the target.
Dan, I know who you are. you are that fag from that gay band Shroud of something. Your band sucked and you failed at being hipster. For the record I will fight you at this show bitch. Yes, I was tired and resting my muscles.
Can't make this show -- I have a previous engagement to feast on scallops wrapped in bacon, pollute endangered wetlands, support Corporate America, and listen to various RAC albums.

Wow, I missed a lot on here in 2 days. Guess I was busy with my new gay band. Dude, do you honestly think I care if you like my music or not? Honestly, ask yourself this? Because you know I wake up every day and cry about it. BTW, if this show is sold out, how will we fight? Why not come to Ralph's and fight me there this Thursday? This way, you will be supporting a show and kicking my ass at the same time.
I know this guy/girl is a "troll" and again, I have fallen for it. However, there is somone posting behind their computer, and they see this, that's fine with me.
I'm surprised Dyingmuse dan likes Wittr.. they're very very liberal. Are you a changed man, Dan? :-(
I don't give a fuck about a bands Political agendas man. I like their music, straight up. Honestly I rarely listen to a bands lyrics.
Yes btw, I am an "evil" libertarian, and I am proud of it.

Agreed on bands' political stances. Disagreed about this band though. I think they're horribly overrated, even though Two Hunters was ok. Only post-Drudkh Weakling inspired bands are bleh. Also, nothing evil about being Libertarian.
I initially had my reservations about the parking lot but I realized an outdoor festival was the only way for PippiZ to win Cassandra back from Christopher Walken.

Dude, I appreciate your opinion about their music, you don't like them, I got that. But, I happen to like them, no biggie, don't go, I shall. opinions are like assholes, we all got one. I'm certain you like a lot of bands I dislike, and vise versa. As for politics, yeah, only Ron Paul is real. Too bad he'll never make it :(
I'd go just to see the other bands. I wouldn't mind seeing Puppies in the Farmstand again, even though I'm not huge on them. Expressing opinions about music on this site usually leads to good discussions, but also labels some people as elitist assholes. I know I've certainly come across as that before :-) .

Blah. THOU and WIWIC are awesome. It's easily worth $8 to see them in a byob environment. Who cares about hipsters in the parking lot. If you were that anti hipster you would go, get drunk, and punch a hipster in his coke bottle glasses or false is you.
WiWaC... not that exciting. Went for beer, fucking fucking missed most of Thou. Fuck. Now all that's left is Wolves and the back of peoples' heads... sigh ...At least we're outside.
What a bunch of fake liberal poseurs. This band always preaching about going back to nature and how they must play in a natural environment. THen they come to dingy PVD and play iin a fucking parking lot. Good job.

My review:
The first reaction I had when I walked in was that the show was infinitely better organized than I had thought. I'm very happy to admit I was wrong about it (although if it had rained we would have been right back to square one). WITTR had a series of laughable banners (a gopher in a forest scene with the word "KILL" hidden inside it), but there were flood lights behind the banners that set some pretty sweet ambiance for the space.
Worms... I was a little disappointed for several reasons: 1. just as I thought the outdoor space isn't very conducive of BM sound. All I really heard was bass and vocals. 2. The singers antics are a little silly and make it hard to take them seriously. 3. They had shirts, cloth patches, and leather patches with the same Windows old english stock font text on it. I didn't see any demos because apparently listening to recorded music isn't kvlt. 4. I was really really looking forward to seeing them live and felt like I got cheated a little. I'll def seek them out again though.
Halfway through Thou's set I forgot I was even watching a band. Thou strikes me as a group of dudes who skipped Black Flag as teenagers and jumped right to Burnt By the Sun. Both my roommates go crazy over this band, and I always tease them that they're the BM Tony's Cantina house band because all I've ever heard from them on record are Nirvana covers. Their original stuff just bores me to tears.
WITTR are rockstar nerds that take wayyyy too long to do everything. But when they actually get going I really like what they do. During a lot of the lengthier "look how brooding I am" ambient interludes they definitely lost people's attention. The whole time I was looking up to where the edge of the building met the skyline, and watched the cloudly slowly cascade over the sky and it was cool as shit to experience to some quality hipster BM (while the rest of the Providence shitlocks and denim jacket "metal" scene did a Natty Ice about it).
The best part was when the sound guy played Leonard Cohen at the end and I left to get greasy hot dogs at NY Systems.
I hope if the people who put on the show read this, and my criticisms about the show they see it as the constructive criticisms of someone who really values their music watching/listening experience, and not just complaining about things. Thank you very much for putting on this show.

i don't agree to any of this. ^^^
I thought the show had great sound, the weather was perfect and I could bring my own beer? yup that rules.
there were a lot of things that I enjoyed about this show. as mike said, the clouds were excellent. I want to see Thou, but missed 90% of their set. I am not that big of a fan of wolves in the throne room, but think they put on decent shows. aside from looking at the back of everyones' heads, they played a good show regardless of how bland their music was to me. I did not like their attitudes towards the crowd and photographers, and it seemed that they had a rockstar attitude throughout the whole show. the crowd was as expected. the place the show was at was actually pretty cool and better than I thought.
overall, i wish more shows happen here, although not plausible because of the oncoming cold weather
I thought the show had great sound, the weather was perfect and I could bring my own beer? yup that rules.
Hmmm, I don't recall ever criticizing the weather or the byob but I must have otherwise you wouldn't have been able to fire out that very poignant buttdart critique. Good one.
I thought the sound guy did a great job with what he had to work with, and if definitely improved throughout the night. Worms and women got kind of the short end of the stick though, as it seemed like they were still figuring out how to do sound in the open air.
How's that one work for ya?
post by alex c. at Sep 12,2011 10:57am
yeah i was pretty disappointed as a whole...Wolfs were "ok" but you definitely git the friggin rockstar attitude from them. worms in women were kinda ridiculous with the gay banner and i have no doubt that singers pussy smells like a loaded diaper. thou were tolerable. i don't know. i give it a 5.

oh that's so sweet it making me chubby
I also was fairly close to bands most of and it sounded pretty good for most of the night but the sound in the back defiantly did improve as the night went on. I suspect that alley has potential for some awesome acoustics.
I wish the weather wasn't changing, I'd really like to see more shows like this.

Drank 11 beers. Had fun. Jammed before and after the show. Enjoyed some NY Systems. The sound might have had some issues but it was still better than expected. Being outside for the show rules. I only wish the bands used the loading dock as a stage instead of playing on the ground. It's not bad when bands play on ground level at a smaller show but with this many people it was totally boring as shit to watch the back of peoples heads if you weren't right up front. Wasn't that impressed with wittr, we have plenty of bands that do it better around here.
black metal shouldn't be played on a pedestal, only underground.
But no, seriously, black metal elevated like that would have probably been a treble shred fest on the ears.
post by chrisREX at Sep 12,2011 12:58pm
I thought it was a really cool show. First band was ok. Thou were great. I didn't know them before the show, but I was thoroughly crushed. Curious to see if I will like them as much on record.
Wolves' sound was awesome. I was really surprised. You heard all the melodies and nuances of the songs. The only other time I have seen them was at Maryland Deathfest and all you could hear was chord changes.
As for their performance, it was up and down. I really like the long ass song in the middle, but not so much the book ends. I probably would of been more into it if I was able to see the band at all.
I really enjoyed seeing a show there, would go to another if it happens. It was a fun setting with the people hanging out of windows, climbing on walls and pretty clouds/airplanes in the sky.
Hahaha what a bunch of buttdarts. Next time they play Waynestock PVD just show up with a 500mm lens, a signal lamp and shoot them from across the street, intermittently flashing "GIRLFRIEND METAL" in morse code.
Hahaha what a bunch of buttdarts. Next time they play Waynestock PVD just show up with a 500mm lens, a signal lamp and shoot them from across the street, intermittently flashing "GIRLFRIEND METAL" in burning gasoline.
Worms was OK. Got what they were going for but sound wasn't good. Would check them out again in an actual venue.
Thou was great. 2nd time I've seen them. They seem to like to play at ground level and tell the crowd to get as close as possible which sucks unless you are right up front.
Only WITTR gave a shit about the flash. Before they started, got on the mic and said no flash. Someone shot a flash (weren't even playing yet) and the guy yells in the mic "didn't you hear me? NO FLASH!...." They sounded great but blinded the front row with blue lights on guitars pointing from base of guitars to head stock and right into hipster faces.
After set... packing up camera... dude on guitar talking to fan/friend guy who says he saw people flashing during show and he says, "Yeah they got my back for the whole show for that." Then goes on for a few minutes about flashes and getting his back. Yada, yada, yada, my ego, yada, yada, yada.
Few people had big flashlights in the windows and shined them at the band every so often. I giggled.
Crowd was as expected, but who cares.
"Venue" was pretty cool but should have played on the former loading dock or built a platform. Felt bad for anyone more than 2 people deep. Had to shoot last 2 bands from behind those banners and no flash with only light from candles, lanterns, and blue guitar lights was a challenge. Oh yeah and 2 fog machines for WITTR that didn't do much outside but obscure what little visible light there was every 2 minutes and make a pssssstttt sound.

This passage just confirms that WitTR are the worst fucking band in the world. Atmosphere is raviolis.

I'm a huge fan of wittr (duh I'm in vattnet), and I thought their set was awesome, but I definitely agree about the rockstar attitude. So fucking weak.
Ya, I was pretty bummed they were such douches, especially cuz I heard that at the Portland show they busted out a giant crockpot and fed everyone rice with beans and apples. So metal.
Their set at Great Scott a few years ago would've been better if they hadn't spent so much time lighting incense and pouting out from under hoods. Sounds like they haven't changed much.
