"Pedocore" was my first thought.

i was JUST about to post a thread about this album. not to leak it or anything... but to vent my frustration. its fucking 2011... LEARN TO FUCKING PRODUCE YOUR ALBUM. "I lift my voice", the intro... has like infinitely higher fidelity audio than the rest of the album. the beginning of "In remembrance" has a really awesome acoustic intro which also has 80 times the sound quality as the REST OF THE SONG THAT COMES IMMEDIATELY AFTER IT. what is the fucking point? they clearly have talent. you cant discern SHIT. this would be the best album of the year if you could fucking hear anything that is going on. you arent norwegian necrobobsledders... this isnt the early 90's... a retard with a computer microphone can record and produce a better sounding album. i made a couple of joke grindcore songs when i was 17 using the mic built into my computer monitor that sounded MUCH better. fucking bullshit. i was so disappointed when i heard what came after the first intro track ...

like... in the middle of that "In Remembrance" song... it cuts back to the acoustic guitar... which is actually pretty decently recorded. its just asinine.

yeah, that makes me mad too. I NEED good sound.

yeah spaldino, it seems they dropped the ball (into mud) on this one throughout a lot of the album...

if you could hear anything it would be great, even with shitty production still. this sounds worse than recording your band at practice with a talkboy.

i never understood black metal bands making their albums sound like fucking shit on purpose.

Maybe they gave up making it trying to give it good quality sound and that's why they're giving it away?

their last release was just as bad sound wise though... so many black metal/esque bands do that production shit on purpose. No Hand Path released their album for free and it sounds really good. no idea why other bands cant make their recordings sound listenable at the very least... the technology is readily available.

Fuck off with your need for overproduced "black metal". This is an excellent album from start to finish.

I could care less about production... As long ad there's atmosphere and emotion present.

spending time and effort writing riffs and lyrics that no one will ever be able to understand and appreciate due to your 'underground production aesthetic' seems, I don't know, a waste of time and effort?

yeah, i don't agree with the need to understand lyrics, but when i can't make out the guitar parts, it's a problem. And in a lot of the poorly produced records i'm referring to, you can definitely make out the notes that are being played, but the actual picking is totally lost. That urks me to no end.

You didn't like their first EP so what exactly are you frustrated with? Go back to your overproduced junk.

it really comes down to what the band is trying to do. this band's production totally works for them because of the atmosphere they are trying to achieve. you can't even hear the drums but it doesn't matter because as a whole it sounds good. they are aiming for saturation.

i guess if you don't like this band's production, then you're obviously looking for something other than what the band intended and it's not for you.

in the end you can't polish shit and make it something else.

btw, agalloch's production works for agalloch. this is not at all agalloch.

This is a very simple concept which some members of this site seem to be unable to grasp at any length. Petrychor aims for a "whitenoise" effect like they've discussed in their recent interview. They never ever intended for their music to have a refined sound ala Agalloch (not knocking Agalloch, they're great at what they do), so treat it as such, take it or leave it, but if you need mega-production black metal don't start barking up the wrong tree.

tons of GREAT black Metal with great production quality. if you gravitate to music with poor production values, ask yourself why? are those bands more trooer or more grimmier? more undaground? or just broke n' shitty

like ark said, production is what the artist wants it to be. I don't care if it's horrible (say, Ulver's Nattens for example).. what matters to me if there's heart and emotion, coupled with atmosphere. I've got some underground black metal demos with the worst possible production you could imagine, yet I still like them because they are what they are and have a certain "mood" attached to it.
I view music as colors and emotions, and production quality doesn't affect that for me.

i hear you. some of my favorite albums have crappy production. and i like my fair share of musical chaos as well. just sayin' as a musician who's recorded and produced records, when i'm listening to musically challenging music like black metal, i want to hear what's going on.

that being said, i can't stand over produced black metal at all. yes, there's such a thing as over production. at least, with metal.

If a song is mixed/mastered/produced to fit the song, however sonically terrible it may be, it is therefore, successful and hence, a good production. Production should add to the aesthetic of the song, not detract.

I listen to any music for the production that fits the sound. Usually, I gravitate to music with good production but there's a bunch of black metal bands that don't have a polished sound that fucking rule (e.g. Petrychor, coldworld, darkspace, etc.).

i stand by my posts in this thread. if the production quality was atleast like battles in the north or even like mid-discography emperor... this would be absolutely godly. hell... even early alcest would be a huge step up!

i appreciate the music that i can hear from these dudes. i love atmospheric shit. this just sounds like white noise most of the time, which is a real shame.

atmospheric black metal bands need to start taking lessons from lunar aurora's zyklus album.

the ear hears what it wants to my friend. it sounds great on my rig.

i have winamp with 2 complicated and feature rich dsp audio plugins running through 2 logitech satellite speakers and a subwoofer. the stock winamp eq is also set up for best possible sound for heavier music. this still sounds pretty bad. there is more variety in the tones that you hear compared the their last album, which is just total noise with no low end what-so-ever.


this also sounds really awful through 80$ headphones too. it can almost be listenable when i am as high as possible... but its still a stretch.
