New site? Maybe some day.
I use the term post-rock loosely but I've been wanting to start a mostly instrumental project with long "emotional" sections, more harmony than melody, and heavier sections. Just a mostly relaxing listening experience but with extremely intense sections too. Not afraid to get technical (not necessarily really fast) or super slow and sludgy.
Musical influences would include, first and foremost, Sigur Ros, Jonsi, maudlin of the Well, Boards of Canada, Múm, new Cynic, Gorguts, Gojira, Clint Mansell, Cloudkicker, Lone Wolf and Cub
You might get a feel for what I'm going for with the eclectic influences list.
I'm serious about wanting to start this thing at some point. Time is a little constrained for me with school right now but I'm trying to gauge interest. Most people I've asked about it don't have the time. I live in Boston and play guitar. |
where are you located anyhow? |
Oh ya, I'll toss that in the first post but I'm living in Boston near Fenway right now and will be for at least another year and a half. |
I'm in Boston near the fenway as well and can play rhythm guitar but honestly not the best guitarist, I am however a very experienced saxophone player and I know some post rock bands like Godspeed or Do Make Say Think have horns in them. I fucking love Sigur Ros btw. Oh, and I'm exactly 18. not sure if that's a problem, but yeah I'd be interested since I'm close by. My brother's the drummer of the post rock band Hadoken, not sure if you know them. |
yes and no also
most post black metal rock but its too trendy and gay to persue...
i just wanna rip off Life Lover, Joyless, Forgotten Woods, Agalloch and Ulver with my project Feelings Hurter |
daniduran:
Age is not an issue. I would be playing guitar anyway but someone to pick up some parts here and there would be cool. The saxophone thing would be awesome. I don't know Hadoken but I'll check them out. Contact me at gtrbmart AT gmail if you want to talk more.
bastard:
Not trying to be trendy (in fact, the exact opposite since I dislike most post rock) but definitely trying to be gay. |
MONO must be mentioned in this thread |
I like Mono, they get it right with the orchestration but they're missing that little bit of grit to make them perfect, in my opinion. |
feelings hurter is a great name |
I play guitar too and I've made what I think Isis sounds like much of the time, minus bass, drums, and vocals. So yeah, sounds like something I dig. |
Go home, faggots.
Bon Scott said rock and roll will never die. Your authority fails to supercede Bon's, even in death. Thus... there is no such thing as "post-rock" and this thread is preposterous. |
you should call it
Grass Fed Beef |
I have a name in mind and that is not it. |

You know, there is some truth to this. Post rock is still essentially rock-based music, at least if they have drums. It's an extension of rock music combined with other styles. But rock music will never die. Much like this:
One giant turd that never dies. |

Martins, check out Liam, Kauan, Loess |
I live in Dorchester, the black heart of this accursed town. You? |
love writing this kinda stuff. as andrew said, its hard to make not gay sometimes though. |

Pricey. Too pricey. |
I live on the Huntington side of the Fens and my apartment isn't too bad at all. |
I go to Northeastern, which is right near Fenway. How lives intersect! |
Oh, haha I also go to Northeastern. What major are you? |

ITT: A friendship is born.
Too bad Martins is racist. |
Too bad, that's why Eliot won't drum in this project. Definitely not because he's the busiest mofo in the world |
Engrish. I like words, for what they're worth. |
What year are you? I may have seen you on campus wearing band shirts. |
Fresh meat. I've yet to be jumped. A few more months and that won't be a concern anymore. |
Well anyway, if you're interested in this kind of thing, let me know. There's a practice room in Ryder we could goof around in but if this becomes a super serial thing, I'd want to get a practice space. |
Sure thing dude. Inbox me.
That would simply cause uncontrollable fission reactions the likes of which having the potential to destroy the infinite space between points in time! |
Bump.
Really need at least a drummer. (the rarest of rare breeds) |

the worst part about starting a post rock band here in boston is the other bands you'd be stuck playing with and the scene/crowd that would (pretend) they're into you... |
Whats with all of those grammar/spelling mistake |

Ya that's one of the things I'm worried about but I'm not afraid to get a little heavier and maybe play with some of the more experimental metal bands around here. Or something. |
