He played RE in Buffalo's 3-4. His run defense wasn't great, but he also didn't have Vince Wilfork next to him. He's probably more useful as a DT in a 4 downed lineman/nickel situation which is where he flourished in Jacksonville. I'm interested to see the details of his contract.
Why do I have a feeling this is another Damione Lewis signing and not another Gerard Warren signing?
Well here's the thing with that. Just like the Damoine Lewis thing there's almost no risk. You've got to figure A. the money involved is relatively minimal B. Stroud is at worst a decent rotational DE and passing down DT C. the Pats will draft a defensive lineman at some point this year.
If Stroud shows up for camp 80 lbs over weight wearing 1 cleat and 1 flip flop, the Pats were only so much invested in this move.

I wasn't necessarily saying this is a bad move, but I don't think Stroud is gonna stick.

Exactly. Low risk for (I should hope) low $$$. All upside if the dude can still ball next to Wilfork. It makes sense too, in light of how Vince was playing outside of DT a lot in running situations. He can help clog the lanes even more.
