I am not sure, but I think that it is just a name that people who aren't hardcore fans refer to hardcore by, due to the misconception that all hardcore fans dress the same. But I really don't know if this is true at all.

Its pretty wide spread as far as the definition goes.
some people say its the latest 'fashion' in the hardcore scene such as girls pants. others say its people who don't actualluy like hardcore but buy the cds and wear the shirts for fashion purposes.

Fashioncore is like all that Atreyu, From Autumn to Ashes shit, which is sometimes also called metalcore. i refer to a band as fashioncore when it appears that they have spent more time doing their hair than practicing with their band, also when their songs are 90% breakdowns, because they are more worried about their gay friends being able to "hardcore" dance then, then accually worry about writing a good song. also tight pants, but don't worry natural selection will take place and eventually, all of the fashioncore kid's crouches will over heat from their girl jeans, thus making them unable to reproduce.

I guess that the times have changed? VICTORY RECORDS is no longer the number one hardcore label. they are now signing Girlpants bands. What have we come too? I'll admit I like wearing tighter clothing than huge clothes. I use to be into the HUGE 47" wide jeans and that shit, but that was so 90's... JNCO isn't cool anymore. Now whenever I see huge pants, I'm like, "man I can't believe I actually wore shit that huge"

Wasn't punk about non-conformity? against uniformity. The problem here isn't so much that every "hardcore" kid these days is wearing girls jeans, designer hardcore shirts etc..... but moreso that they do it because there is PRESSURE within the scene that you HAVE do do it if you are even going to be RECOGNISED as part of it at all. Which is fucking Bullshit, but it happens, and people want to feel like a part of something. 1) don't all punk kids where denim jackets w/ patches and spikes along w/ mohawks or funky died hair? Any group of people that try to be different fail because they're being just like all the other kids in their group. (this doesnt just apply to fashioncore kids)
2) i go to shows and i dont feel the need to wear tight pants

Basically , 2 dudes who liked from autumn to ashes or some garbage like that started making these shirts that said FASHIONCORE and something along the lines of "good moshing, good fighting, good hair" these shirts spread like the black plague they were and the name stuck. cool right?

Most of the friends I have that listen to metal listen to what you call fashioncore, and so I hear the stuff a lot. I've concluded that FATA's first album is incredible if you're in the right mood, but their second album sucks ass. It's poppy as shit. "The After-Dinner Payback" is the only good song on it.

Atreyu is shitloads of wasted talent. They're excellent guitar players, singers, growlers, etc, but they funnel that talent into trying to make some shitty glam/hardcore/emo fusion. If they cut that out and spent time listening to "The Jester Race", they could be amazing.

Thrice is one band that I actually like. They're halfway between emo and metal, but actually blend the music together into something simply genre-defying that sounds abolutely beautiful. They're poppy, "All That's Left" gets played on X-Rock from time to time, but I don't give a shit. I like their sound, and that's all that matters.

Then there are some other bands that my homies all listen to that aren't poppy, but are part of the same end of the hardcore scene. Himsa is a solid melodic "metalcore" band. Good guitar players, but nothing especially unique or incredible about them.

Killswitch Engage is very good, but I liked them better without Howard. They were great when I saw them in concert with him though. Their backup vocalist/guitarist is a fucking badass! He said some of the funniest stuff I'd ever heard, making fun of the fights that broke out among moshers and the hardcore scene in general. Not in a way that was really fuck-youish, just more as a few words of kindly advice to some of their more scene-devoted fans. He also said he was impressed with Idaho titties and Idaho potatoes while in the area, which made me feel patriotic.

Shadows Fall flippin' rules. I'm sure all you Massachusetts death-metalheads are pretty about the success of the bassist and vocalist of Overcast since they left that band, but it all sounds good from where I am. I've had "The Power of I and I" stuck in my head a lot lately, and have really enjoyed their new album. It's more melodic than their last one and a little less thrash-like. Not that that's necessarily good or bad, that's just how to describe its sound. They're coming to my state with The Haunted soon, so I'm pretty psyched.

I've shared favorite underground metal bands of mine with friends, and though they did think Meshuggah and SYL were fucking maniacal and instrumentally mind-blowing, they didn't seem to really want any of their CDs. I guess these guys are just happy listening to what their older brothers got them into, and what's rippin' up the emocore scene at the moment. Too bad. Oh well. I do know, like, two people who listen to Opeth and Death, and I applaud them on that.
