Threw it in last night for the first time in roughly 10 years. this album has a great atmosphere. I wasn't huge on the clean vocals when it came out because i thought it was a depeche mode ripoff, but I love them now. Glad i got to seem them when they played tracks on this album and before.
anyone else dig this album? haven didn't do much for me.. I don't know what the ones after haven sound like.
I have DLed copies of Fiction and Damage Done but never gave them the listening time out of fear it'd ruin the band for me. (most Swedish melodeth bands turned horrible over time imho). I guess I shall reconsider.
Damage Done and Character were a welcomed change after Projector and Haven. Not the particular Dark Tranquillity albums I listen to the most, but definitely the best of their modern era.
i've always wanted to check out this band, but i don't because i figure most of it sucks, but i'd imagine there is a killer album somewhere in their discography. kind of like In Flames and The Jester Race.

ITT: metal elitists hating on it because it isn't their first album
Got a kick out of this because all of the "metal elitists" used to bash me for liking Skydancer.
"Nightfall by the Shore of Time" is one of the greatest album openers, ever.

Metal...elitists?
In this thread? Nope.
One can't argue though- you have to admit..it seems 75% of bands' best albums are usually the first 2 or 3. It's not like that with every band, but it seems to be a reoccurring pattern in metal.
It just seems that every thread in which an album other than the first two releases are discussed there are always at least 5 responses to the tune of "they haven't come out with anything good since blah blah blah"
It just gets boring after a while
kinda like how every food thread turns into eat meat or you are a pussy threads.
on that note I need to go pick up the new Enslaved today! As I think I may actually enjoy it if it is indeed better than vertebrae, because I actually like half of vertebrae
What it comes down to is the fact that those earlier albums might be geared more towards the individuals preferred musical preference. As band evolves over time, they may experiment with their sound, thus resulting in the loss of qualities that made those fans appreciate them, in the first place.

This.
Also, all enslaved is great. But I do prefer the older style. I appreciate what they're doing, though. Much respect for them.
