New site? Maybe some day.

i've always had back trouble due to height, but as i'm getting older it's becoming a big problem. i really can't do anything physical without knotting up my back muscles, every time i load equipment i can barely stand up straight the next day. it's not just lumbar problems either, it's all the way from my neck to my tailbone, mainly the muscles lining my spine. being a desk jockey doesn't help, and i'm tired of it. i've already done a ritual, a barrel roll, deleted my system32 folder, asked Dani Filth, and accidentally the whole thing, but i need more. does anyone suffer from chronic back pain who has exercises/stretches they do for preventative measures? |

Pete Pingalore in Worcester, highly recommended. |

My dad does exercises and stretches every day for his back, he says without it he wouldn't be anywhere near the same. I haven't done them myself, I can ask him for details on what exactly he does and let you know. You could also try having a chick walk on you, that's the only thing that ever cured back pain for me... |
|
It takes awhile to work things out, but honestly over time, yoga increases the strength of the core back muscles and helps align the spine. I try to keep up with it, when I don't, I feel a huge difference in pain and energy. |
|
It helps. I have lower back problems, and stretching def. gives me relief. That and copious amounts of ganja.
Give it a try. Feels a little silly at first, but once you feel the results, you stop caring that you've become a filthy hippy. |

i think your height gives you a huge disadvantage from the start. because you have a lot of leverage with your arms and your back, you probably use those for heavy lifting more than you realize, when you should really just keep your back straight as a razor and use your legs when lifting anything. they are 100 times stronger than your arms+back, which should never be strained when lifting. i know lifting with your legs is obvious but in practice it usually doesn't happen when rushing equipment down stairs.
get a pull-up bar and do all sorts of pulls while keeping your back straight. helps my back a lot. i sit on my ass all day at work and when i'm on the drumkit and i have no back problems. the other thing is doing squats while keeping your knees parallel to your toes, putting your arms straight in front of you and slowly going up and down, as if you're about to sit down. all this while keeping your spine straight.
and what the fuck are you doing loading equipment? you just need to carry a mic in your pants. |

fully support that too...make sure she's got heels |
|
I feel you, dude. I'm 6'4" and weigh around 240. I've also been weight training aggressively for about 12 years. Try stretching in the morning and at night, possibly some light weight training to strengthen the muscles around the area. I have the same problems and hope I will still be able to lift weights down the road. |
|
my bro has back trouble too. get an excercise mat and do stretches everyday. it will help |
|
My dad's a chiropractor. Got a practice in Framingham |

Don't know if I'd recommend that. Cracking the back effectively requires a LOT, but at the same time, not risking further injury requires a certain amount of softness/distribution at the same time, and shoes/heels kind of take away from that. It's the reason why pain relief from the walking thing is hard to replicate with anything else, because it manages to take on both somewhat contradictory principles of heavy yet soft. I wouldn't go lay under a heavy rock or piece of metal and expect it to cure my back pain, and I'd avoid heels under the same principle. I'd say just make sure she's not tiny, because weight is necessary to really work the back muscles, especially with Yeti being a taller dude and all. |

haha, you are correct Shadow. I just like a good trampling. |

YOGA.
Seriously Yeti, i have a crooked spine. It's degenerative, it will get worse and worse as i get older, and by the time i retire, i'll be in a wheelchair... or at least that's what the docs say. But since i got into doing yoga in the mornings, it's all changed. I now can take about 600mg twice a day, and only feel a little bit of pain on the average day, and still a bearable amount after loading equipment. Before yoga i still had to do opiates (painkillers) after shows to even be able to move. |

Rub + tug from hot little Asian spinners FTW. |
|
i larfed at at the image of Tony doing yoga. but dont let something like looking a bit silly cause you to avoid something that could seriously help. |

I enjoy when a woman wears heels. Terrible for their back, but not for mine. |

barefoot shoes, stretching, exercise/weight lifting
a lot of people have weak backs and don't know it. Do some rows, pulldowns, and overheard presses. |

Every once in a while if i twist just the right way my back pops and it feels amazing. I've been wanting to find out if that Teeter Hang Ups contraption really works. |
|
stretch your ham strings this will release your back , your ham strings get so tight they pull down your back throwing off your whole body ....
im telling ya try just sitting on the floor straight legged and touch your toes or untill you can ,and do it standing up and you should feel much better .. |

this is true. after a 36 hour car ride sitting bitch from montreal to winnipeg (in an impala), then headbanging and later crashing on a couch with a soft middle cushion-i couldn't walk right for 3 days. so much pain in my body, never been pissed like that before, every step was a shooting pain from my forehead to my toes-i made the mistake of casting myself from sexcrement in a heated phone call back home. i soon learned how to stretch before i play and have never felt better. it all starts with the spine. lay on your back bring your right knee up to your chest, then rotate your leg so your right heel will line up with your left knee-then pull your left leg into your chest (make sure your right elbow is support your right knee), this will strech your right hind quarter down the hamstring and up your back to your neck. after a week of doing this stretch for 20 minutes a day I was finally able to walk again and headbang with no pain. SAVED MY LIFE. tommy neuraxis, tre fetus and roman necrophagist taught me the stretch and they're all drummers who swear by it. |

hammy stretches back'd hurd |

I stopped reading halfway thru the tread so im probly repeating stuff.
Do sit ups. People don't realize how much it helps your back by strengthening your core muscles
as for stretching when i pull a muscle the dr. always give me the same stretch routine to do and it helps. lay flat on your stomach. prop your upper body up onto your elbows. hold. now raise from your elbows to your hands arching your back as much as possible. hold. down to flat on your stomach arms outstretched. now this part might be hard to explain. draw your upper body back towards your legs into an almost fetal position on your knees. your ass will be over your ankles. chest into your knees and keeps your arms outstretched, reach as far and hard as you can stretchin your back out. hold. back to the flat position and repeat onto your elbows. repeat a few times in the morning for 5 minutes before you get out of bed. |

yeah i have had to seriously curb poor lifting habits. both of my parents suffer greatly from back problems, my dad is active and can be bed-ridden for days if he isn't careful. this is all extremely useful information, i'm amazed haha. i don't give a hoot about looking silly or doing silly things, anything to alleviate this. just lifting Alex's drum rack on at that stage level on Saturday did a number. i could feel the muscles pop. |
|
Do a barrel ritual roll about Dani Filth on your system32 folder. That'll usually work. |
|
I heard methamphetamine helps |
|
Quite possibly the best "do want" evar. |
|
combo of cardio, light strength training and pilates. had to do years of it after my spine surgery. I should still do it but I'm old and lame. |
|
Get Morphine and put it in your rectum. |
|
I hear there is a lot of morphine in Fitchburg.

I should go to the doctor, my job the for the last 6 months has been to squat down and lift heavy things for 8 hours a day... after three days of doing it straight I get retarded back muscle pains and it makes it impossible to sit, standing and laying down are fine though.
Also, I don't think toyotas are built for people over 6 feet tall. I have a corolla and stand at 6'4 and have noticed it causes me neck pain (having to lower my head so it doesn't touch the ceiling) and massive right hip pains (from having to keep the foot hovering over the pedal...having such long legs makes for bad angles on the hips...long car rides suck)
I say we go back to hunting and living in the woods fuck all this meager endless heavy labor the corporations have us doing for a handful of dollars and hour.
it's just like in The Jungle, they'll use us up and when we break down toss us out on the street. |

dude that foot-hovering thing makes my whole leg hurt. |

Do you find something comical about my appearance when I'm driving my automobile? Everyone needs to drive a vehicle, even the very tall. This was the largest auto that I could afford. Am I therefore to be made the subject of fun?
