And the real crux of the article:

Bailey also said that these preferences may stem from a desire to show superiority or elitism, which also has to do with IQ. In fact, aligning oneself with "unconventional" philosophies such as liberalism or atheism may be "ways to communicate to everyone that you're pretty smart," he said.

They're talking about the difference between 114s and 120s, not the 125+ zone.

you left out the first part

"The adoption of some evolutionarily novel ideas makes some sense in terms of moving the species forward," said George Washington University leadership professor James Bailey, who was not involved in the study. "It also makes perfect sense that more intelligent people -- people with, sort of, more intellectual firepower -- are likely to be the ones to do that."

I didn't, actually -- they're guessing at reasons why, and both are options. The article does not definitively claim a link.

i think one is dependent on the other. that is to say, if people are adopting behaviors to appear intelligent to others, there first needs to be an understanding of why those behaviors are (or appear to be) more intelligent, in this case, they represent a break from tradition in order to further human social evolution.

smart people don't believe in god... Smart people know liberalism is the best for everyone (when it works of course) and smart MEN know that sleeping with more than one women at a time is very very dangerous.

We (everyone within the high IQ category) have known all this for a while, it's nice that a study backs it up though.

I feel left out. I have a lower IQ :(

Disagreed -- note the word unconventional in scare quotes. It's not that these ideas seem smart, but that they seem DIFFERENT.

What do they mean by liberal? Isn't that subjective...I mean George Washington and Thomas Jefferson were super Liberal for there day..against monarchy (the only form of government really at the time) They both supported abolition but never announced it out of fear of the south breaking from the union...Thomas Jefferson treated his slaves like they were his children...maybe because some were.

I consider myself extremely liberal morally...gay marriage is cool but I don't care about it, abortions are fine but again I don't care about supporting either side, I'm for free college if people earn it..etc etc, but I am also extremely conservative when it comes to foreign policy and economics. I think we should break off all treaties and just be open in trade...like no trade restrictions or tariffs on other countries...because that's how real capitalism works.

Not to mention I am extremely atheist to the point where sometimes I don't even really believe in love as anything more than chemical reactions.

You mean it was only a chemical reaction? You're telling me this now!?
