I live in Somerville, our singer lives in Revere, and our bassist lives on the South Shore. We're practicing with our friend Kenny at his house on the South Shore right now, but obviously we'd be renting a space once we get a full time drummer.

We just started a few weeks ago. Short, fast songs, lots of old school punk/hardcore and 90's grind influence. We're not looking for anyone AMAZING on drums, just able to do some normal blasting, fast beats, and a few grooves.

Consider it. It's a pretty easy gig, tons of like Spazz, Iron Lung, and all that shit thrown in. Just get a shitty kit and do a few impressive blasts / fasts.

We're in no rush, Kenny from The Arkham White is filling in indefinitely, and he's a great dude and a great drummer. There's nothing we're writing that a halfway decent drummer couldn't handle.

Not being able to "gravity blast" is NOT a weakness. A metal drummer who cant play 16'ths with the feet above 180bpm, that's a weakness.
Gravity blast is kinda a stupid name for a 1 handed roll. Lets use its proper terminology: like freehand technique or 1 handed roll, rim roll blast makes more sense that gravity.

280?? fuck yourself. I downright don't believe for a second that anyone that posts here can do it. Prove me wrong, please.... then teach me the exercises you used to get there...

I didn't put that i can do 280 in the feet, someone messed up in their quoting. I can do 300 with blasting on the hands (normal blasting, non-gravity) But feet...16th notes at that fast? that's fucking hard. A lot of drummers who think that they can do 280, aren't actually doing 280 and are just doing 8th note triplets instead of 16ths. A good way to check if you're actually playing at the bpm you think you are, find an electronic set, or a midi grid, and play at 280, if it lines up, then horrah! or just program out some 16ths at 280 and see if that's what your double kicks sound like, if not, you're just riding a wall of sound.

Ahahaha. All I know is that my butthole of a drummer called me up ecstatic one day, saying "I just hit 280. Book recording time; I'm not gonna be able to maintain that once the semester starts." If that's feet or overall whatever - I don't understand you drummers and your crazy moon language.

i know that you didn't mean that.... and i know how to time myself, thank you. You can do 300 with your hands? Holy shit. Like with both hands at the same time, not 16ths with the right and 8ths with the left? My DB is only at about 215 w/metronome for half hour sets. Blasts at 245.

and for the record, i REALLY respect people that can play that fast, admire them, strive to be that fast myself.. but playing hard and consistent is the most important thing in the world. (not saying that fast people don't think that way. There are drummers out there who are super loud and fast, and they give me a big, big boner.

Plenty of the new material we recorded in May is played circa 250ish (although I am not sure since we didn't use a click.)

250 makes more sense, that is a fantastic ground speed. I stay comfortable around 207 for DB because that's as high as my click goes.

Only dance bands record to metronomes though.

I can do cock thrusts at 180bpm.
