Only 80s pantera is real. |
nothing like proving what an intelligent music lover you are by downing someone who made it further than you and all the other haters could ever dream of. why don't we court-martial Randy Rhodes too because A) he's dead and B) he wasn't the first one to ever pick up and play a guitar! |
Only 80s pantera is real. |

So you actually like Metal Magic more than Vulger Display? |
I don't really like the "Hair metal" stuff. it hurts my soul. |
I don't really like pantera. Mainly because I don't like Phil , and how they deny they were a hair band at one point. |
If he was so useless why make a thread about it. |
yea, and yesterday was pearl harbors 68th anniversary, yet no one makes threads about that |
I must say though, pantera put on a good show the times I saw em in the 90s |
yep, they were awesome live. |
i can understand not liking the band but it baffles me how much hatred and disrespect there is for such talented guitar player. |

I've noticed people get wierd about Pantera. I think it has something to do with the fact that they were so popular.. radio hits... etc... |
Cowboys From Hell aint too bad. But really, anyone could have seen phils ego develop and destroy the band a mile away.
Oh yea, his kvlt project Viking crown sucks too. And he tried taking advantage of my ex gf. Fuck that dude |
And he tried taking advantage of my ex gf. |

Yeah, I'm with you. Dude was shot right in front of his brother, friends and fans. It was sad.
But we wouldn't look half as cool acknowledging that as we do calling him a faggot, right? |
hahaha, that's a good one. |

i'm with you, tom. not liking the music he wrote is one thing, but the guy played the shit out of the guitar and had a fun time doing it. i don't see the harm in that, but i don't really give a shit what people say about him. |
I agree for the most part, but I still engage in LULZIFYING festivities just because of the bandwagon diamond darrell love. I'm just saying in general. My guess is everyone on this board who's vocal about their tribute probably had a lot of respect for him when he was alive. Outside this board though, I'd imagine it varies. |
While I lost most of my respect for him when he started damageplan, dime still was mind bogglingly influential in metal guitar playing's evolution. You cannot deny that he was an amazing guitarist regardless if you never liked his band. |

i say the same thing, and people have argued with me time and again about it. |

As much as Damageplan was a insane pile of garbage. One thing that I have no idea how to assess is how difficult it is to continue on after being part of an extremely popular and influential band. Nu metal is never the answer, but I'm sure "What the fuck are we supposed to do after Pantera?" came up between those guys a lot. |

good point. |
Funny that back in the day Pantera kinda ripped off the exhorder sound, yet 15 years later they decided to not look to their peers at all for inspiration, but to a young generation aimed at creating dumbed down nu-metal.

they should have toured with Rebel Meets Rebel instead that Damageplan shit. David Allen Coe for the fucking win.
*also Hank III as an opener would have been the bee knees. |

i still dont see the resemblence between Exhorder and Pantera's songwriting other than the two bands being in a related genre of metal. |
Dimebag admitted to being a fan of Helmet, and cited Page Hamilton as an influence on his stop and go riffs. Same with Prong. While Pantera still had their own definitive sound, I hear more of those influences creeping in, than Exhorder. |
right and i have no doubt that they were influenced by Exhorder but i dont see anything indicating they intentionally ripped them off. seems more like an evolutionary process similar to Alice in Chains (who was also a glam band originally) |
Yeah, I've always felt that the Exhorder claim was a bit of a stretch. I can tell the difference between both bands. Besides how many death and black metal bands all sound the same? Whatever. |

There's still a lot of folks who credit Pantera with the dudeguy-ization of metal in the 90s. Some folks don't sit well with dudeguys in metal. Therefore Gale FTW. Not rocket science. |
Thank god no more Panterrible. |

ITT: People making fun of a musician leaps and bounds ahead of them. |
ITT: People jokingly and un-angrily making fun of a musician they don't like and people who are pissed at them signing out out and posting anonymous comments like they are the mafia and are going to come after them for defending Mr. Abbott.
Nobody's going to come to your house and throw a brick through your window. Relax, fruitcake Pantera fans. |
I hear the exhorder influence big time in the vocals and in the fact that they really got them writing in less of a hair metal fashion. |
I consider Pantera my favorite band...admittedly, mainly for nostaglia, because to be honest, if I heard Pantera for the first time today, I'd probably fucking hate them....even so, I was sad when he died, but making fun of a dead person 5 years after he died is hardly something to get pissed about...while I won't take part in it, I'm not gonna get butthurt about any of it
hell, they're the ones not letting it go...that's their problem |
this thread happens every year and will continue to happen every year. mehh |
seems like theres more posts complaining about supposed butt-hurtness than actually butthurtness. i merely stated that i dont understand why so many people hate the guy and are apparently glad he's dead. jeez. |

Sikk bicep moshing and bigg trucks. Fucking Hostile on the lacrosse team. So on and so forth. |
Pantera was the first band to really link doing tons of reps and ruling keg parties with an iron fist with metal. Not really much in the way of bonehead toughguy metal in the mainstream before "Walk" came out - not that it didn't exist, just that it hadn't really found its potential audience. |
you cant necessarily blame a band for the stupidity of its fanbase |
its craze to me that someone who hates this guy so much remembers the date of his death? |
I can certainly blame them for the existence of said fans (and the fact that without Pantera, I'd never have to interact with said dummies)(or hear them catch on that I'm a metalhead at a party and then try to bond with me over "This Love"). They were kinda boring and terrible on their own, but if they hadn't struck the radio jackpot with "Walk" this never would have impacted my life. LOL |

I'm not entirely sure why meat-head Pantera fans bother anyone in the first place. Don't hang around morons...problem solved. |
I have no problem with Dimebag.
Just not a fan of pantera. phil is a tool though. |

They're all toolish belligerent rednecks. All of them. Except maybe Rex, but I might be biased because he was really awesome to my daughter when I met them. |
Cowboys from Hell, Vulgar Display of Power & Far Beyond Driven were huge influences on my early teenage years in the early 90s & they led me to get into heavier stuff like Morbid Angel, Death & Deicide. Will always love Pantera for that. Being adopted as the metal band of choice for jock douche-fucks and Damageplan being such a shit band won't take that away. That being said, I think the ridiculous amounts of Dime tribute stuff is annoying and has been for the past couple years. It was a terrible tragedy, dude didn't deserve to be murdered, but let it go... |
Yes it was a terrible tragedy. And he was a great guitarist. I liked Pantera growing up as well, I still don't mind Pantera on a nostalgia basis. I, like others, love making fun of brodude jocks who love Pantera. I don't blame the band for their douchebag fans, though.
But I just can't help but make fun of someone who changed their nickname from "Diamond" to "Dimebag". LULZ |
