jim i'm calling you out, i played through both shining force games years ago, this is a better game by far in every way. eat it.
comparing a 2009 game to a game that came out 15+ years before it and then stating it's better "in every way" is silly. This game is indeed good, but sf is one of - if not- the best 16 bit games and was crucial to the development of console tactical RPGs with emphasis on character development. That's like stating new satyricon is better than old bathory. CANNOT COMPUTE
agreed it's crucial to development. i just have more fun playing dragon age, and i'm not even 9 years old anymore. really though, aside from being a tacticial RPG with character development, it's tough to compare them. graphics aside, dragon age has a lot more classical RPG elements like dungeon crawling and conversation and moral quest choices, as well as completely different paths and play styles. i'm saying if it came out back in the day, it would have made SF look silly. SF is like...a rung on the ladder and dragon age is the top, man... ok enough ranting about fucking video games. gotta werk.
and old bathory is an experience, while new satyricon is just something to listen to.

Could you just stop commenting on games until you've got a system that can RUN them? We get it, no game is as good as the ones that actually run on your 12 year old PC and colecovision console. When the Rygar Vs. Contra argument happens I'll be sure to come grab you.
I'll get this in a few months when it's like $15 used...That's how I role.
I'm just now delving into the Shivering Isles Expansion for Oblivion.
I do that. Very few games I will be buy the day of, but when I do, it's usually a Rockstar game.
BTW, you weren't at the space last night. I brought GTA4 and COD4 if you want to give those bad boys a try sometime.
This game does look awesome. I hear the PC version is alot different than the 360/PS3 versions. Something about it being more action oriented for the consoles?
I am compelely clueless about ps3. Interested in grabbing one soon.

In the pc version of dragon age, you can zoom out to a tactical view just like the true baldurs gate RPGs. Coupled with the mouse command system, the console version completely fails. You can play the entire pc version like baldurs gate if you want. Otherwise it controls similar to world of Warcraft but more in depth. Combat pausing and all that.

More action oriented, not really... More like the pc version is more challenging (difficulty is amped up to force you to use tactics) and not dumbed down to fit on a controller. At some points it's just impossible and I have to turn the difficulty to normal
Just installed. Looking forward to getting lost for awhile.

I beat this game for xbox 360...was definitely good, a little bit tedious at times..I thought it could have been better (especially the end) but it is still solid.

The expansion Dragon Age Awakening is worth the buy as well if you've beaten the game already.
Having a really hard time getting into this. Bought a few months ago when the local Sony store went out of business, played it for a couple of hours and just couldn't get into it. Everyone praises this game, but I just don't get it. I'll try it again someday.

I agree with mages being overpowered. I took Morrigan out of my party because it was just too easy, especially in dungeons where you could just blast a room with tempest before even opening the door.

bring it to the show tonight so i can depart on an epic fantasy adventure on the morrow...

You can bang everyone. Can be a little inconvenient with the elf guy, so I suggest just don't talk to your party. Ever. I lost my indian guy in the beginning because I wondered what the "we don't want you here, leave" dialogue option would do. Thank god, or I might have ended up fucking him too!
It's just sad, when a game tells you to be friends with your party so they like you, then rewards you with gay sex when you do what you've been told. This is entrapment, dammit.
I believe Activision. Sierra was tossed around from company to company in the 2000s. The last (good) title I have from them is Homeworld2. Awesome games, those homeworlds.
Sierra was untouchable in the 90s. Every game was gold.
RPGs now are so polished. I can't decide if that's a good or bad thing. I don't like most modern JRPGs but it seems the American ones are more focused on depth and action. I need to play Dragonage more to fully appreciate it.
Oblivion still hasn't failed me though. Love the world in that game;better than morrowind and daggerfall.
Dragon Age is a good RPG. There is a lot you can do with each of the 3 classes as far as specializations and specific builds go. Also I agree that most modern JRPGs blow. That genre died with FFX. As you would say "Only SNES-PSX JRPGs are real".
Also I agree that most modern JRPGs blow. That genre died with Xenogears.
haha fixd.
But really, somewhere along the line they started losing their integrity. Listen, I like (good) Japanese animation and movies, and I kno you're an anime buff... Way more than me. But JRPGs now are way too cartoony and have so much cheese. Again, not all of them do, but it seems that squareenix (anyone who doesn't know the signifigance of this company and claims to be an rpg fan should be shot on the spot) has been on a decline since they merged. Just about every squarespft game was solid. Most Enix games were solid too.. but it seems quality is diminishing as each year passes.
You know, I'm inclined to agree with that. Back in the day both Square and Enix respectively had some great fucking games. Once they merged as the years passed the quality has seemed to diminished.
Actually, I just barely started a D&D group. It's unlike anything I've done before, because 3/4 of the players are girls. Not ugly ones, either. Weird.
I think that one of the best parts of the game is how alive the world feels. I actually read most of the codices as I acquired them so the history of the world with its cultures and religions is really visceral.
In particular the naming of everything is very well done. Lots of almost-realworld names and using of the good ol' Old English/Germanic technique of sticking two words together.
