This cover is one of the most amazing things I've ever heard:

bennyhillifier

And I can't believe that Chino reverted back to 1998:

bennyhillifier

Fucking love this band.

won't listen. shitty band.

was listening to some of white pony and adrenaline on the ride back home this morning

Great albums, but that live clip above shows exactly why I stopped caring about the deftones. I'll still listen to new music, but I would NEVER pay to see these dudes live. Chino is fucking AWFUL when he doesn't have 77 takes to get it right.

Fucking love this band. Always have.

toggletoggle post by SteveSummoned   at Nov 1,2009 12:14pm
I will definitely admit though, the whole band is tight live but Chino's vocals live are very shitty and half assed. If he sounded as good as he does on CD live I'd be psyched.

toggletoggle post by brodown at Nov 2,2009 10:57am
Loooove the Deftones...would probably enjoy them live under the guise of severe intoxication, but I can definitely see how Chino could grind someone's gears.

love me some deftones. need to starting revisiting this music

toggletoggle post by arktouros at Nov 2,2009 11:21am
Always thought this band was alright.

The song "Passenger" with Maynard beats the hell out of anything else they've ever done imo.

toggletoggle post by oscarct  at Nov 2,2009 11:42am
love the deftones

toggletoggle post by boblovesmusic   at Nov 2,2009 11:44am
I really liked that song "Digital Bath". Have that stuck in my head right now actually.

toggletoggle post by timma at Nov 2,2009 11:49am
I remember buying Adrenaline at the music store in Hampton Beach waaaaaaay back. Fantastic album front to back.

One of my Favorite bands.

toggletoggle post by SteveSummoned   at Nov 2,2009 2:48pm
"Around The Fur" is one of my favorite albums of all time but I love "White Pony" too because it's very atmospheric.

i unfortunately agree with this.

Do like all their recordings, but the two times I saw this band live they were god awful. No energy, terrible song selection, and just sounded lousy (especially vocals).

Both times were on a big stage (Ozzfest and opening for Slayer/Pantera), maybe they're better in a more intimate setting?

toggletoggle post by Captain Obvious at Nov 2,2009 3:25pm
Just another average band from the 90s. Nu metal faggots. Bet you liked taproot too

Actually I do like Taproot too haha.

Me too. I saw Deftones twice at Lupo's (when it wasn't at the strand) and both times was awesome. Also saw them in 97 at a gym in Clinton which was insane.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Nov 3,2009 8:07am
haha the St. John's Gym, they had some random shows. i remember seeing Fear Factory and System of A Down there.

Like about 4 or 5 songs off both s/t and "White Pony". Early shit is horrendous. I saw them in their gayday with Pantera and White Zombie. I got to see them instead of Eyehategod as they dropped off the tour and Deftones took their place as soon as the tour came to MA. Seriously though, they have some great songs.

While their first couple albums may have been defined by heavy guitars and chino's occasional rap tangent, they were a band always based more in atmosphere and melody. Adrenaline was the closest thing they had to a "nu-metal" album and it was before anyone coined that lame-o term. The band has also said on numerous occasions that they cover too much ground to be labeled a "metal band". Kinda similar to FNM.

white pony was a good album to robo trip along to in high school. great album actually.
their newest album is pretty damn solid... rats rats rats has one of the heaviest chugga chugga riffs i've ever heard. guitars tuned down to F# are beautiful...

toggletoggle post by t2daeeknli at Nov 4,2009 8:47pm
oh yea... and every person that i've talked to about deftones live seems to agree that they shouldn't play to more than 200 people. and only in rooms the size of my living room. they get too wasted to play arenas and stadiums and sound good.

toggletoggle post by oscarct  at Nov 4,2009 9:48pm
I have seen deftones many times and have only enjoyed it in clubs.
