Thinking the situation is lame, fine, as it is definitely shitty for both parties involved, especially when it becomes public.

But trashing Converge and their music really doesn't accomplish anything. Remember what happened last time we slipped up and spoke ill of a band...and frankly in this particular situation, I think it would definitely suck more if that came back to bit us in the ass.

Sucks for Shaun, he's a great dude. Sucks for Converge. Sending out files early is a crapshoot, just sucks when things happen that aren't supposed to, and obviously people flip out, because they care.

So Converge name dropped some guy that barely anyone has heard of nor would probably recognize anywhere on a Twitter page that probably not too many people follow - I feel like it's an even exchange of sorts for leaking an entire album (knowingly or unknowingly) that a band has put their hard work/time/money etc etc into.

I can't say I blame Converge for being pissed that their record got leaked. Nothing personal at all, as I'm sure your friend had no malicious intent.

Having said that, I also think that Converge, having the status that they do, should awaken to the reality that this was inevitable. If your friend didn't do it, someone else would (and will).

My suspicion is that when he was given the copy to review it, he didn't upload it to the private folder he usually keeps anything he gets from the zine. I guess he does use soulseek. So if it was in the wrong folder and he was signed on, someone had a very happy search at his expense.
