YOB CONTINUES TO BUILD SUPPORT FOR CATHARSIS EMISSIONS FROM THE MONOLITH CONFIRMED NEW ALBUM RECORDING DETAILS UNVEILED
Philadelphia: Eugene, Oregon's YOB continue to find support for their second album, Catharsis. Released last November, the album has already been featured in issues of Metal Maniacs, Terrorizer, Kerrang, Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles, Alternative Press, and Metal Hammer, plus online support from Digital Metal, Punknews, Stonerrock, Hellride Music, and more. With a series of live performances already booked, leading up to their Emisssions from the Monolith Festival performance, Catharsis, noted by Stonerrock.com as "one of the most passionate and heavy albums of all time," is sure from tapping its potential.
Guitarist/vocalist Mike Scheidt says, "YOB is absolutely thrilled at how well Catharsis has been received by our listeners and the media. Making that album was a turning point for us and the reviews have been very favorable to raving."
Catharsis is the label debut from the three-piece formed by Scheidt in 1996. Their sound has been likened to a mixing of Sleep, Burning Witch, Neurosis, High on Fire, and Electric Wizard - all with a dose of the band's own highly charismatic style and personality. "Somewhere between brilliance and a bad acid trip. Three songs, 50 minutes, strap yourself in," says Hellride Music. "Catharsis is so goddamn good it's frightening; the kind of record that subtly alters pathways in your brain with each listen," adds Infernal Combustion.
While preparing for a series of live dates that will lead up to their highly anticipated Emissions from the Monolith performance in May, the band today announce the start of new recordings for their third album. Already titled The Illusion of Motion, the album is expected to see official release early fall. Scheidt says, "we are very excited to record the new album. All of our extremes have grown to a new level; the slow riffs are slower, there are faster more chaotic jagged tunes, our longest song ever clocking in at 25 minutes, and our shortest at under six minutes. Our melodic riffs are much more evolved and our death doom is more lethal and intense. This will be our best album to date."
The following is a list of upcoming regional YOB performances. Official spring tour dates, including Emissions from the Monolith, to be announced shortly.
