So, I'm just curious to know what all you drummers use/prefer for gear, i.e. drums, sticks, cymbals, etc.

toggletoggle post by menstrual_sweatpants_disco   at Mar 18,2009 2:04am
I can discuss what I use for gear with you. I bet you'd be VERY interested to know.

what murph said is basically my ideal kit except with evens ec2 coated heads and japan oak 7a sticks.

Tama import
22 inch bass
18 inch floor tom
16 inch mounted tom
16 inch snare (nothing special, it came with the kit)

18 inch zildjan crash ride
16 inch paiste crash (sorry, i'm not brand loyal)
14 inch zildjan hats

tama double pedal

sticks....i usually go for plastic tips....but i have a few wooden tipped pairs.
i use all different sizes, depends on the speed and style of the song

toggletoggle post by niccolai   at Mar 18,2009 11:26am
my old kit:

toggletoggle post by orgymf@work at Mar 18,2009 11:30am
i find having too many pieces gives my simple minded ass the urge to use every piece of the kit in every song, so i actually prefer a simple set up.
one or two toms on the rack.
a crash, a ride, hi-hat, maybe a china.
bass drum w/ double pedal.
and a cowbell can be fun.

anything past that is excessive for me when it comes to song writing/band practice.

on the other hand...for solos, drum offs, or just having fun, there is nothing like giant kit with roto toms and way too many cymbals

EC2s are beyond overrated IMHO, having played them for a year I can honestly say I hate them.

Vintage "A"s make my kit sound fucking gianormous.

toggletoggle post by niccolai   at Mar 18,2009 12:43pm
for me its gotta be ec2 or aquarian x's

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Mar 18,2009 1:16pm
i do the ec2s for my drums. I need the slightly thicker batter heads for my dense ass drumz. I use aquarian super kick 2 for the bass batter, and i use clear ambassadors for resonant toms/snare. and oh yeah, i use 2bn vic firths.

What I would LIKE to use and what I actually do use are two different things, but here we go:

-Mapex M Series & Tama Rockstar kits
-Iron Cobra Double & Single Pedals
-Vintage Rogers Gold Sparkle Snare
- Right now I have Evans G2's on my Mapex on account of GC being OUT of Remo Emporers the day I had to track my indie band's cd...they're ok and have been on since then (about a year) but I'm looking to put Emporers on them soon. My Tama has been out of commission until recently so it still has 3-5 year old Emporers on it that I'm replacing with either Evans EC-2's or possible clear Emporers.
- my snares (rogers & mapex) both have Remo Emporers on em
- I use evans gel dampeners on my toms and snare
- my cymbals are kind of a hodgepodge:
14" Sabian AAX Stage Hats
16" Sabian XS crash (being replaced ASAP)
18" Dream crash ride (awesome cymbal, need 2-3 more 19"/20"/etc.)
20" A series Medium Ride from like the late 80's or early 90's. Things heavy and has such a dark crash
18" Paiste PST China Crash (thnx accurseddrummer)
- Silverfox Sweet Pea drum sticks (hooray for endorsements)
- Tama and Sound Percussion double braced hardware
