Yeah, that. My non-metal stuff is generally even more obscure and indy-credulous than my metal picks. For me mainly is super-cheesy mega-false metal.

Tons of balls-in-vice power metal with elves and swords and shit
Prog metal nerdery (lots of bass porn)
(new) Naglfar (mega cheese) and similar corpsepainted melodeath
Demon Burger (every fucking record, I don't care)

Most of the other stuff that people might shit on I fully own up to (like FNM, Type O, Life of Agony, old RHCP, lots of 80s-90s punk/hardcore stuff, old-school and underground hip-hop, old ska and reggae, actual, authentic non-Nashville country) and I think it all holds up on its own merit. NO BLAST BEATS, KICKED OUT OF THE SCENE.

Rich, there is no way you seriously listen to Sum 41. I call bullshit.

Ooh, Atom and his Package. 1000 ironic hipster points for me.

I loved some of that early Epitaph style punk growing up on a surfboard in Newport, RI. What can I say?

More:
Jawbreaker
Down By Law
The Dwarves
Supersuckers
ZEKE! One of my fav bands evarrr..
The Hookers
AntiSeen
Turbonegro
No Use For A Name
The Vandals
Guttermouth
Unwritten Law

hahah

I haven't listened to half of those bands in years but I wouldn't say I dislike any of them...

I like early Victory hardcore too.

311
Prodigy
Deftones
Portishead
Beastie Boys
Sublime
Kottonmouth Kings
Michael Jackson
One Dragonforce Song
God Lives Underwater
Sevendust

Nu-metal bands who's first CDs I really dig:

Slipknot
Mudvayne
Mushroomhead
Staind
Limp Bizkit
Soulfly

I really dig KSE and Unearth too. I like everything Killswitch has ever done and the majority of what Unearth's put out. I really think Shadow's Fall is teh lames though.

Secrets is the only thing from DF I really like, but damn, it's a good album. (VON cover!) Such garbage now, though.

Kottonmouth Kings

Hahahaha... I was literally just planning on telling my gf's sister that Kottonmouth Kings were objectively the worst music ever created, and that I could prove it with science. (I was cleaning the living room and found that stinker laying around.) I have a mean, mean hate on for 90s, rock-friendly white boy hip-hop.

But, y'know, whatev. LOL

(Ok, I just told her and she told me to prove it. I declined.)

One Dragonforce Song

Alright, there are the odd moments when I need to hear Dragonforce, and nothing else will do. Can't usually get through the CD, but there it is.

Soulfly

I can listen to the 2nd CD from the debut digipak. I tell myself that it's ok because there are Discharge covers on there, but we all know better.

There will very shortly be a "DYA is old" photo retrospective up on here featuring me with terrible 16 year old facial hair and both Gorilla Biscuits and Sam Black Church shirts, so I guess I'd better put those down. (Both still appreeshed.)

Oh, yeah. Tree. I don't give a fuck, that shit = The Rat / Hempfest in the mid-90s for me, so good memories trumps being terrible.

Ok, now we're going back. TONS of FSU-approved tough guy nonsense from the early-to-mid 90s. Brawlpark? Blackbelt? Oh, yeah. Don't listen to it much this millennium, but it'll still put a mildly embarrassed smile on my face. I'd put Bitter down here but Bitter still rules, fuck you, I don't care. Half the music I listen to is electronica, trip-hop, psytrance...bands like

Massive Attack
Juno Reactor
Infected Mushroom
Shpongle
Entheogenic
Ken Ishii
Laika
Bjork
Digicult
Sundial Aeon

And of course the darker stuff, like Front Line Assembly, Nine Inch Nails, Laether Strip, and dark ambient, harsh industrial, all that fun stuff.

Soundtrack stuff like Angelo Badalamenti (best known for David Lynch soundtracks)

Classical without question, Mozart's Requiem is out of this world.

Jazz from Charles Mingus to Etta James.

Quality hip-hop, new and old, like MF Doom, Wu-Tang, etc.

I was recently turned on to Nick Cave, I love that style.

No pleasure should be considered guilty but if I had any, they'd be David Bowie and X-JAPAN.

Now for the haters:

I enjoy classic rock but I don't really listen to it anymore, probably listened to too much growing up.

I used to really like power metal, but one day I woke up and realized I didn't. Some I'll still listen to, Kamelot and Firewind just make straight up good music. And Manowar is a good time. EDIT: Blind Guardian is one of my favorite bands.

I HATE WHINY VOCALS WITH A PASSION. This includes The Cure and the trillion ripoffs.

I hate -core. Unless it's Napalm Death-style grindcore. Misuse of the "grindcore" term is punishable by flogging.
I've never heard a "country" outfit that I like.

Indie rock is meh. I used to enjoy a lot of it...most of it is insanely boring. For me to like it, it needs to have good vocals and lyrics, and not sound like pop. Tegan and Sara are hot, but that's exactly the style I can't stand.

pornography WAS the cures best.

And Pires, i was a raver for almost 5years. I worked for a rave promotion company, i probably went to a couple hundred "raves" (of which i remember about 10) But i still love all forms of techno, jungle, trance, house, hardcore, all of it, and it's all perfect to use in stead of a metronome, whenever i wanna do exercises but don't wanna listen to boring clicking i put techno through the PA.

In the world of electronic music, I haven't found anything better than Autechre, Aphex Twin (especially early material and his various pseudonym's), and Dither. I can't stand that pulsating bass programming, or "hold hand's" dance/rave stuff.

There's this song on the russian station on GTA IV that I really liked. Enough to research who it was, and it turned out to be like some ukrainian world/pop star called Ruslana who came into fame the same way lordi did, like some european version of american idol. Point is, if I'm listening to it and someone walks in, I switch it to Immolation. A true guilty pleasure

The Cure and Cat Power are the 2 that I most frequently listen to when no one is around to make fun of me.

My tastes are pretty broad, so I imagine my list of guilty pleasures would be pretty large, if I were to really think about it. Great music is great music though.

Oh, and I kinda like that "Umbrella" song by Rhianna, but mostly cause she's a sexy lady. Hell of a fucking hook though.

Did I just type that? Fuck.

Nick Cave is the burliest, most heterosexual music ever.

Also, add a metric fuckton of 80s cock rock to my list. Lots of Crue, Skid Row, Cinderella, WASP, Poison, Bon Jovi, etc.

Definitely have some pussy '80s new wave/darkwave shit (Joy Division, Cure, Gang of Four, Sisters of Mercy, etc) in my music collection. Something to listen to when I'm falling asleep or reading a book or something. Probably not as embarrassing as the 2 Cradle of Filth CDs I own...

No shit man, this thread was about stuff you listen to that wasn't metal. The term "guilty pleasures" was in reference to something "The normal deathmetal kid wouldn't like". I'm definitely not embarrassed about anything i listen to.

I don't listen to anything that lacks true emotion, desire, artistry, and atmosphere. the emo/screamo scene exemplifies everything I hate when it comes to music - something which is hard for me to say.
