You're pushing to hard to get a good scream and bursting a blood vessel while doing so. You need to learn how to scream without pushing and trying so hard and let it come naturally, also without exhaling large amounts of air in short periods of time, which means don't take huge gasps of air before a long scream. It takes some time, but if you think that's hard, try learning circular breathing.

i've gotten minor headaches after band practice, but it sounds like you're describing something more serious than what has happened to me. i hope you aren't damaging your body. good luck with it.

if you want help with what immortal is talking about, i know my singer doesn't hurt anything, and exhales VERY little with each scream, and he's loud. He taught the guy from all shall perish how to do it right, i bet he'd help you.

Well he should help me too because I still have trouble learning my own damn lessons.

i'm sure he wouldn't mind. Much like me...... he REALLY likes to talk, so showing people things is a pleasure to him.

Cool. I will be in touch at some later point in time.

It's probably a tumor.

sometimes I'll get a headache after doing certain screams, but not all the time.
drink a few beers and you won't notice.

IT'S NOT A TUMAAAAH!

It's Noooooot a TOOOOOOOOOMAH!!!!
it's because you play loud music, wow i'm a genious.

toggletoggle post by SW at Jan 13,2009 9:32am
it's probably from overexerting yourself. you should turn the pa up this way you don't have to scream as loud.

listen to opeth man, that dude does not strain to get that sound at all.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Jan 13,2009 10:30am
i had some issues with this kind of thing, but over time you learn to control your breathing without exerting too much. i still overexert all the time, but its getting better. i worry about that sort of thing, the amount of pressure that is forced into your head can't be good in any way. for some reason when i play on stage though it makes my right shoulder hurt like a bastard. i can't figure that one out.

and slymo is right, i learned a lot from watching the Opeth DVD. he can get a phenomenal sound with little exertion, and even without positioning his arms, which is something i have to do in order to get my back muscles in the right spot.

i was screaming one time and it felt like i pulled a muscle in my neck, which then changed into the back of my neck and shoulders cramping and having unbearable pain. it took days to get over it. i guess i pulled the muscle that is connected to my vocal chords?

you can really mess your self up this way . i have learned to never push for volume or high pitch unless i'm sure i can do it . if i know its a bad night for me and i definatly can't then i drop an octave or get a bit closer to the mic . another good tip is : at a show do your sound check from 3-4 inched from the mic . then if you need more volume you move closer an inch or 2 and no one is the wiser . especially in the tail end of the screams when you begin to weaken .
