So...
Boarcorpse wants to record a demo finally, and we aren't sure what studios in the area are good for the brand of technical death metal that we are into. Have any of you recorded a metal record in the area and had it sound real good? Or if you know a band that recorded somewhere in the area and it came out well? Either way, we wanna try and find someplace that we can book time in by the beginning of Feb. If you do have someplace you could recommend we would love to hear examples of recordings done there. Thanks in advance for all your help.

What's your budget looking like?

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Dec 17,2008 10:07am
well, we only wanna do two songs right now, but we want them to sound fantastic.... so moneys not REALLY an issue.

toggletoggle post by archaeon at Dec 17,2008 10:09am
do you guys have a vocalist yet?

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Dec 17,2008 10:09am
Eliot from Composted might be interested. He did the Composted CD and it's fucking amazing. His Myspace URL is www.myspace.com/blendermethod if you want to drop him a line and see if something can work out.

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Dec 17,2008 10:10am
Oh yeah, I forgot you can't go on Myspace at work...his email is blendermethod AT gmail DOT com.

toggletoggle post by archaeon at Dec 17,2008 10:14am
He's also black.

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Dec 17,2008 10:20am
Can't forget that part, haha.

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Dec 17,2008 1:06pm
yes we do have a vocalist. It's the same dude from ouch. But before we let him try for Boarcorpse we told him: No rapping, No yelly-half screams. We want low lows, and high witch-scream highs, and growls in the middle. And that's all he does. He's fucking perfect. Me and the other two members are astonished at how good he is, and how well he's adapted to the newer style. It's puts a smile on my face, I am FINALLY in a band that i would go see play. I love the music we are doing now, and he does a fantastic job pulling it together with the vocals.

As far as elliot is concerned, i will shoot the email to him right now. Are there any other examples besides the composted cd that he's done? And can i hook up with you to get a copy of the cd so i can hear it? I could download, but i wanna hear the sound quality of the actual cd.

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Dec 17,2008 1:07pm
and i like black people.

toggletoggle post by narkybark   at Dec 17,2008 1:10pm
I have a copy you can hear.

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Dec 17,2008 1:13pm
There's actually a newer mix, Damon. PM me your address and I'll send a copy over, Jim.

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Dec 17,2008 1:24pm

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Dec 17,2008 1:28pm
Dude who owns it is Zeuss...BIG name in the metal/hardcore recording industry.

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Dec 17,2008 1:30pm
fair enough, i still don't think anyone else can tell me what we can afford.

Holy cow! a band who takes themselves seriously, AND who is excited to be playing the music they are?! What a nerve those assholes have! It's almost like they think they don't suck! Don't they know that they are way too short on scene points to be acting that way?

toggletoggle post by narkybark   at Dec 17,2008 1:37pm
oh jim, so easy to troll. The man was probably just about to type and then contracted ebola. It happens.

I also just wanted to add

***LORD ZEUSS**** (crackle) (thunderbolt) (thunderbolt)

I'm having a fun day at work.

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Dec 17,2008 1:41pm
wow. Damon, just because i respond to duchebags doesn't make me lame for being easy to troll. I have the right to point out duchebaggery no matter the circumstance, and i will continue to do it, no matter WHAT the internet "scene" thinks. K?

Well considering the only people that have recorded there are nuclear blast or larger label then that. I really doubt you have $10,000+ sitting around to record a demo.

toggletoggle post by immortal13 at Dec 17,2008 1:56pm
Mudskipper studioes in Arlington, MA. Awesome quality, and only 50 bucks a song. Check out our recording done with him:

http://www.myspace.com/thesummoned

He's improved since recording us too. If you go with him tell him Greg from The Summoned sent you.

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Dec 17,2008 2:09pm
thanks immortal.

..And if 10grand is for 2 songs, then your right. We would not spend that much. But if that would be for 8 or 9 songs, then we actually might consider doing 2 there. I think at this point we would save for a couple months so that we can get a real good representation of the stuff. But obviously if we could do it for a reasonable price, that would be preferable.....
Archaeon - do you have any recommendations?

toggletoggle post by archaeon at Dec 17,2008 2:14pm
For you guys, I'd say go with Eliot. He gets it.

Archaeon and Parasitic Extirpation both did our EP's at The Breaking Studios. Ryan does great work for a great price but the dude is really busy and already has 2 other projects he's going to be working on.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Dec 17,2008 2:16pm
Just do it for free - do it yourselves!

arilliusbm said[orig][quote]

well that is the plan long-term. We are purchasing equipment to do recordings ourselves, and to help with the writting process, but we are ready to start playing shows, and wanna have something that sounds good to start distributing.

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Dec 17,2008 2:24pm
Well i've sent elliot an email. So we'll see what he says.

Narky- Can you listen to the link from the "immortal13" guys post? I can't myspace. I wanna see how it is.

toggletoggle post by immortal13 at Dec 17,2008 2:28pm
Download our album for free. I don't care haha. just google search The Summoned Harvest and you'll find it.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Dec 17,2008 2:33pm
Just sayin' man. If it's a 2 song demo and if you wanted to save a few pennies, find a good/cheap way to record it and then pay someone to mix & master or do it yourselves. There's just a few options because it'd only be two songs. But with the sound you're going for, I've heard that Eliot guy is good

toggletoggle post by archaeon at Dec 17,2008 2:36pm
It's cus hes black.

toggletoggle post by narkybark   at Dec 17,2008 2:37pm
I've been pushing the self-recording angle myself, but... that might take a while to get going.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Dec 17,2008 2:37pm
Of course.
BLACK POWER!

toggletoggle post by narkybark   at Dec 17,2008 2:40pm
Oh, and its pointless for me to listen to anything right now, it'd be going through a 1" mac speaker.

Any opinions on Ken Susi/Damage?

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Dec 17,2008 2:45pm
Narky-
You say "I've been pushing" as if THE ENTIRE BAND isn't totally behind that idea. When in reality, we were going to buy it weeks ago, until you decided that since i wanted to own it in the long run, you weren't going to throw down in the beginning. If you had chipped in like we originally talked about, we would have it now. And i would still wanna go somewhere for two songs, because i feel like it would take us a while to get good enough with the program to do something worth promoting ourselves with. And we've been told that drums are not something you do yourself for something your going to distribute.

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Dec 17,2008 2:47pm
Damage is way too expensive, in my opinion. But, I don't know how much he'd charge for a demo. Problem is, you'll have the same sound the other bands he's recorded have. Don't get me wrong, he's not bad, but I can always tell when I'm listening to one of his albums.

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Dec 17,2008 2:48pm
And now i am downloading the summoned cd. So we can check it out on my stereo.

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Dec 17,2008 2:48pm
I really don't like the sound of anything I've heard Susi do.

Including the Porphyria EP...sorry duders. Just the production, not the performance.

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Dec 17,2008 2:51pm
Yeah, i am not really a fan of the susi stuff.

toggletoggle post by RustyPS  at Dec 17,2008 3:02pm
I don't know if you guys would be down his wheelhouse so to speak, and he is a little steep, but Jay Maas does a hell of a job.

http://www.myspace.com/psboston the songs "I Got A Fever" and "Peggy Getting Stabbed"

Those songs were recordedin....I wanna say 2006....and he's improved since then.

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Dec 17,2008 3:16pm
Narky- Can you DL this stuff^^^ to listen to tomorrow? ^^^

toggletoggle post by josh_hates_you  at Dec 17,2008 4:50pm
zeuss did shadow's fall's last 3 albums, hatebreed's last 2 albums i think, god forbid. forgot who else. does not mean you can not afford it.

the hold true stuff sounds ok.

ken susi sucks. porphyria did not get what they payed for and ION sounds very low budget too.

that dinkus adam d. from killswitch has a studio in western mass that makes stuff sound good.

some people like steve austin some people don't.

god city. i have liked most everything out of there.

If you have lots of money just hire Matt Bayles.

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Dec 17,2008 4:52pm
godcity only records bands that they first "endorse" aka people who know converge

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Dec 17,2008 4:53pm
*personally

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Dec 17,2008 4:53pm
or something

toggletoggle post by DrewBlood@Work at Dec 17,2008 4:58pm
jay maas at the getaway group does a great job. he's also done work at god city, so that might possibly be an in there.

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Dec 17,2008 5:48pm
I used to practice right next to godcity in norwood. I sat outside in the Norwood commerce center and listened to Isis record "Mosquito control", Year of our lords "Frozen Divide". I definitely like Godcity stuff, maybe i will try and contact them.

Josh- Do you know how to contact Adam D. from Killswitch/Overcast? I like their recordings too. And we don't have LOTS of money, but we will pay what we have to for a couple songs to sound great.

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Dec 17,2008 5:49pm
DREWBLOOD: do you know how to contact Jay Maas?

DAMAGE STUDIOS, pete does awesome work and he can come to you...did a shit ton of awesome quality cds for us and also work on a few unearth songs and seemless stuff...he's in fitchburg...and hes real good and reasonable. PLUS hsi entire studio walls are covered with porn pics ripped out of magazines.

toggletoggle post by moenli at Dec 17,2008 7:59pm
I'd say Jay Maas (the Getaway Group). Dude does so much with what he has. My indie band recorded with him and he did an awesome job. I was suprised @ how he adapted to make us sound like we wanted. He told me he got a bunch of new equipment since then so he's even better now.

toggletoggle post by DrewBlood@Work at Dec 17,2008 8:09pm
check your e-mail! also, mosquito control is fucking great.

To hear more recent Mudskipper recordings, look up Micheal Fights the Dragon on myspace. Very metalcore, but it sounds awesome.
