New site? Maybe some day.

I know you've got some experience with this sort of stuff, so I figured I'd throw this at you....
The logic board on my iPod died. And I'm not big on the options that Apple gave me. I'd like to try to replace it myself.
1. How difficult/expensive/plausible do you think this would be?
2. I'm assuming that my hard drive is still in tact, and if I do this correctly I won't lose all my stuff (don't think for a second I was smart enough to back it up). Am I wrong?
3. If I'm not wrong, and theoretically everything is still there on the hard drive, is there a way to get those files off it and onto an external drive or something, in the event that I do end up getting a new or refurbished iPod?
I can't even find the System32 folder on this. Can someone help? |

good luck. he's doing battletech and D&D right now.
he should be on later tonight. |

I'm about to barrel roll this thing right into the garbage. |

ATTN: xmikex My iPod is busted. Any ideas? LOL Yeah, I got nothing. We used to just send'em back to Sony if a hard reboot and a software update wouldn't do the trick. |
|
Actually I fixed it, but in doing so I wrecked the part on the logic board that takes the battery connection. So by fixing it, I broke it. Then I gave up. Then I cried. Then Maggie laughed.
Is your iPod actually broken? I might be able to help. |
|
It wouldn't recognize that it wasn't connected to the PC after it was ejected one day, therefore wouldn't turn off, and then the battery died. I haven't really fucked with it much or brought it to the Apple store or anything, but I do have an ungodly amount of data and tunes on there. If you have any ideas, that'd be super awesome and kewl kewl kewl and everything. |
|
Worst case scenario is that the logic board is dead or damaged somehow.
Did it do anything when you plugged it in after that battery died? Like the low battery screen or anything?
If you need a battery to slap in it just so you can backup your data I'd be happy to hand one off to you. I've got an extra. |
|
I get nothing when I plug in the USB - blank screen, no drive spin that I can hear. |
|
welp, there goes the only copy of the herugrim key intro.
thanks, Steve's ipod. |

It's probably the logic board then. If it was the batter you'd at least get the low battery screen.
They're replaceable, and surprisingly easy but not cheap. There are tutorials on www.ifixipodsfast.com just make sure you're using the right tools. I've got a spare nylon pry tool if you need it.
Your only real other option is to trade it in for 20% off a new one. |

thx d00d, I'll look into it. |
