Anyone who talks shit about emo is a fucking loser, I hate shitty music no matter what the genre. Metal people talk shit about emo all the time, but are just as trendy but in a "metal" way so its ok.

And seriously i dont even know who would be considered emo anymore. most of the bands are classified under indie or pop punk or whatever. But something like dashboard confessional would be a dcecent example for you.

toggletoggle post by corpus_colostomy at Aug 17,2008 6:01pm
"music" made by fragile dewdz who's screams belie an unacceptable level of sadness, melodrama and sensitivity akin to that of a 16 year old girl. ironically the emo aesthetic seems similar to that of black metal, in that it's essential.

where as the death metal community seeks to assimilate and articulate disaccord with their environs / culture, via brutality---

emo cats really just want a hug...cause like, no one ever understood their true depth in this lifetime.

this dashboard confessional sounds like something that would be played on alternative rock mainstream radio ... i.e. 95.5 BRU in providence ... but what makes it emo ??? is emo to altenative rock what lipstick , big hair and spandex rock sweetie bands were to rock in the 80s ???

technically, isn't all music emo? being sad and whiny aren't the only emotions out there.

You must taste the semen

Is it me or is the "hipster" trend becoming so prevalent now? It's the indie image but to an extreme. Just seems like there's soo many people now who try to look hip. They, in a sense, remind me of the way emo kids look. Funny how things come in waves.

toggletoggle post by Conservationist  at Aug 18,2008 11:15am
Emo was always a hipster genre, because it came out of hardcore after it became a hipster genre.

these two hipster dudes just moved in across from me in Worcester, they live on the second floor, so when i sit on my couch the view from my window goes directly to their living room. so far majority of their time has consisted of sitting and hanging out of the window staring down the street trying to look hip or cool or sexy or whatever it is. not that i'm staring in their windows, but my time is sat playing video games, so just glancing to the left and i can see them. they just sit there. on Saturday i fell asleep on the couch, woke up about an hour and a half later, and they were still there doing the same thing. no one showed up all day or night. i was tempted to scream at them to get a hobby or something. i mean really guys, you're trying to look cool on a low income street for the trash that inhabit just about all of the other apartments. way to go. take your gay Jetta and go back to Allston.

"emo" used to be whiny sounding hardcore/crusty shit like neil perry, portraits of past and pg. 99. it was actually pretty decent. as time went on however it was transmogrified into some pretty horrible bands.

Ugh.

We have a hipster core here in Texas. It's called Austin. Hipsters are useful because they beat liberalism out of people who are still able to think.

When I went to Austin, I was all about tolerance. I was still clueless as to the problems of the world, mainly because I spent most of my time working.

When I saw the liberal paradise that is Austin, I realized that liberalism is basically parasitism. "If someone has x, and I don't, I deserve it, and I'll force them to share with social guilt"; after seeing that, and the complete social havoc -- where good people were not only ignored but socially persecuted, and vapid whores predominated and suffocated art and culture with their lies -- I left Austin and liberalism behind.

Austin is the hipster capital of the world, in many ways. I've been to Seattle and to San Francisco, to L.A. (Silver Lake) and to Mizzoula, MT, all of which are hipster-havens. But Austin hipsters have the city locked down. Under the guise of fighting the man, you're supposed to be weird and freaky and do whatever the man doesn't expect. But you go back to work the next day, having learned nothing. It's a good town to work food service until you're 42 and then become a regular, bitter writer on Alternet.org.

Austin suffocates every quality band who tries to set up shop there. Metal bands in particular suffer because, unless you infiltrate the social network and start behaving like a hipster, no one will attend your shows. People are too afraid of being un-hip to go see an unknown, unless that "unknown" is secretly an underground favorite. As a result, the best Austin bands are the ones that have nothing to do with the "seen" (Scene) there.

Emos, hipsters, modern primitives, trend whores, carnies, defiant minorities and lesbians, drug use theorists, mantra-chanting New Agers, feminists, body modification fetishists, coprophages, "witches," faux artists of all variety, embittered defiant hippies, foreskin collectors, and other failures of all sorts cluster in Austin. They have failed at making something of their lives, so they are using cognitive dissonance, and making themselves a Big Deal in social/moral/hip circles.

When I seize power, it will be very unwise for anyone to spend time in Austin. The B-52 carries 27 tons of high explosive and, if unleashed on a city block, literally landscapes it into a moon surface of ceramicized dirt covered in the dust of charred, vaporized plants, animals, and buildings -- this is a consequence of the TNT/HE mix used in modern bombs. The explosions are so loud that people up to a mile away will lose hearing for the next two days. Some of the fireballs approximate a quarter mile in size, and can be seen from nearby cities. A flight of B-52s, properly targetted, can erase a city so thoroughly that from space it resembles a desert, and this is without use of nuclear weapons.

That form of horror, visited upon Austin, will not cost the human race any geniuses. Nor will it diminish its artistic or social potential. Instead, it will increase our potential by removing the false and giving space to something new, like weeding a garden and dropping in seeds for non-parasitic plants. Don't cry for Austin, because that entire town is one giant emo hipster cognitive dissonance passive aggression parasite. Its death in flaming vapor will be a great step forward for taste and beauty.

Hardcore (1980-1984) --> sellout like black metal --> Fugazi --> emo, "prog HC" etc (1987-1989) --> alternative (1990-2001 or so) --> nu-emo --> metalcore.

Emo on the other hand is for men who sit down to pee.

In the same way metalheads can feel metal is a more sensible genre than rap, and point out that rap is complete garbage but that metal has redeeming characteristics.

What, it's illegitimate to criticize any genre lest our own genre gets criticized? SOUNDS LIKE JESUS CHRIST WITH A COCK IN HIS MOUTH TO ME.

look at the big picture. why do you shit on emo? they look like fags? they suck at their instruments? the music sucks?

this is the same shit people say about metal only instead of fags you look like you just crawled out of a sewer full of bullets, instead of shitty instruments you get the cookie monster comparisons and instead of the music sucking you dont make music at all, just noise. im not telling anyone not to criticize shit, fuck, spend all day ranting about how gay emo kids are, be my guest, i'm just pointing out the irony.
