I just traded a guaranteed future hall of famer and former world series mvp, my first round pick from a couple of years ago, 2 future first round picks, my best backup outfielder and 7 million dollars in exchange for a guy who hit .247 last year... all at the behest of a bunch of talk-radio morons who said I have to make a deal. It's a good thing no one in Boston follows baseball.

Theo, good job on the trade. There's no place for "rockstars" on the Boston Red Sox line up. Quote me on this, the Sox will have a big upswing from here as they finally have a big weight off their shoulders and no longer have to worry who Manny is going to hit next. Anyone remember the attack on Youk? What the hell is wrong with that primadonna? Good riddance! Well worth the trade, good job Theo!

I keep hearing, now the team can get it back together. They just won last year. How much better can you do? And 3 years ago they won. Who gives a shit?
It is a shitty deal tho.

toggletoggle post by samYam at Jul 31,2008 11:11pm
of course the deal is shitty, but the point is, they didn't want to deal with Manny's shit anymore and did anything they could to get him out of Boston.

thanks for the heads up.

I'm not sure what world you live in, but just because someone is an asshole, or acts childish, doesn't mean they aren't completely fucking awesome at what they do.

This trade was uber-ghey, and I'm a Yankees fan. I'm sure Epstein and co. have a plan, because they too are really good at what they do, but Manny is one hell of an awesome hitter and also best friends with their other franchise guy, Ortiz. They do have some great young talent, so we'll see.

I live in a world where teams, play as teams. Here in NE we are lucky to have great teams such as the Sox, The Pats and the Celtics which have all succeeded because they have played as a team. See ya Manny!

Good Job Theo.
Manny is a legend.
His time was up though

I was more sad when Pedro left.
He was entertaining in a different way.
One that was more balls out for a prima donna type.
Manny just put himself in the same class as AROD. True Faggot Style. Threw his teamates and team that paud him 168 million under the bus/
Great Player with oh fuck.... 2 rings in 4 years.

ortiz's best friend is miguel tejada.

I don't see how you can swing this trade as a good idea for the short term.

Freeing up SOME of Manny's contract money (goddamn 7 mil out the window) will make a difference in the offseason.

If the Sox don't sign Sabathia in the offseason it will be a disappointment.

I'd rather have Ben Sheets.

you figure a 2008 manny and a 2008 jason bay's numbers are pretty even (although its highly likely that bay wont kill the yankees like manny does), so you level off there, but you essentially give up moss and hansen for nothing. i dont think either had a future in boston but you couldve gotten alot more out of them as trade bait, especially moss. youre only supposed to make a trade if the end result is an improved roster, and the red sox didn't do that. jason bay is a good, younger, athletic player who can hit well and steal a couple bases and actually play some defense but hes got some big fucking shoes to fill. and ditto on sheets, sabathia is too fat to stay healthy

Yea we want Ben Sheets!

toggletoggle post by Pires at Aug 1,2008 10:20am
Manny wanted out. Plain and simple. He agreed to a trade to the marlins for fuck's sake. who wants to play for them? agreed, moss was good. but you can always sign an outfielder with potential. bay was good in pittsburgh with garbage batting in front and behind him. lets see what he does with a real line up. bay was a good pickup. sucks that boras is his agent though.

yeah the pros outweigh the cons in this one.

the marlins are a game and a half out of the east!

with a 20mil dollar payroll nonetheless. quite the surprise.
I'm not quite feeling it this year. Sox aren't going to win.
Predicition to win the world series = ANGELS

toggletoggle post by Pires at Aug 1,2008 11:12am
the marlins ARE a game and a half back. but really, do you think they'll do anything? that division is in such shambles. manny would've only brought that team morale down. i'm glad he's gone.

toggletoggle post by tylor at Aug 1,2008 11:21am
the marlins are definitely overachieving, but add manny to that lineup and they could slug their way to a playoff spot

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Aug 1,2008 11:38am
You can never really tell with these things.... Last year everyone thought the Gange trade was HUGE and we had somehow lucked out with it. That obviously turned out to be garbage. Maybe we'll be surprised again

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Aug 1,2008 11:45am
It IS plain and simple. The Red Sox gave up waaaaay more than they picked up.

And these are professional athletes. Manny's attitude doesn't make the whole team play shitty. Historically, sports teams with primadonna players have done well and shitty equally. If you are a championship caliber team, you could suck it up, do your job and play in that situation. They chose not to and that's fine, but they gave up way too much and received not enough.

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Aug 1,2008 11:57am
i dont really like baseball so i am bummed about this for two reasons.

1. Manny is funny. I like his shenanigans. He makes me laugh.

2. Look at the mans hair, your not allowed to have hair like that unless you smoke a bunch o weed.

thats about it.

my issues are moss and no reliever.

I can see that gripe. Bullpen is still their most glaring weakness.

toggletoggle post by W3 nli at Aug 2,2008 1:41am
why is it that no one but scooter and myself are the only ones with headaches over Moss.

i mean its not like hanley or murphy has gone to be amazing talent else where its really sad when you look around the league and see our younger stars doing great things for other teams.

i'm sad about manny leaving. he was fun to watch and he always looked like he genuinely loved to play baseball, which i can appreciate. i don't think that we got our money's worth with bay, but we did save some extra cash on our payroll.
