Freakin' Civilization III totally owns my life, right now. All day at work, thinking up new strategies to give those Persians their comeuppance (Wipe ME off the map, will you?!?). Sid Meier is an evil wizard. (And, yeah, I know he didn't work on III, but it's based off of his work.)



For anyone that likes these games, check out Colonization: It's like a very tightly-focused Civ II, where you just have to colonize the New World, and eventually break away from the home civilization. Fiendishly addictive, very tough to beat. I reccomend it without reservation (and you can download it for free from Abandonia).

No but Civ III also pwned me for about 2 1/2 months.

Colonization will cause you to lose your job, I shit you not. Graphics are rough, but the gameplay is awesome.

You have to actually import citizens from Europe, and you don't always get ones with the skills you need, so you can either a) put'em to work at the job anyway, and hope they pick it up eventually, b) pay money to convince a skilled worker from Europe to come over, or c) send your unskilled labor to live with the natives and get taught a skill.

I ended the Persians early, but had a hell of a time with the Aztecs.

Eventually tho, I sent 3 nuclear submarines their way, only one made it, but I launched a 1/2 a turn before they sunk me.

I win.

If you have a few months of absolute free time, I highly recommend it.

They redid Pirates! a few years back - supposedly it's completely life-ruining.

Civilization IV rules more. More detailed and better gameplay.

Made the Persians my man-boy-bitch last night playing as Greece, but the Babylonians and Egyptians are going apeshit trying to overrun my one source of iron. If I don't get Chivalry and some knights on the table real soon, it's gonna start looking real bleak...

civ 4 was a lot of fun, but too easy to win.

colonization was the shit. you can set up distribution & production networks in your colonies to max out your monies. the market is dynamic and the diplomatic relationships change based on your actions. so much detail for such an old game. great way to spend a few months. i haven't made it up to viceroy level yet, but i'm getting there.

CIV games are good. Always prefered AGE OF WONDERS over them though.
If you're playing this, can I have the Zelda and Kirby games back now? haha
