'Wrong' CYNIC Booked For Germany's WACKEN OPEN AIR Festival - Feb. 5, 2008
Drummer Tim Batkin of the reactivated NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal) outfit CYNIC (not to be confused with the reunited progressive metallers CYNIC, whose 1993 album "Focus" is regarded as a landmark release in the field of technical/progressive metal) has released the following statement via the HellrideMusic.com forum:

"The German people have an enviable and just reputation for thoroughness and attention to detail, so it is very disappointing to report that during negotiations for CYNIC (UK) to play at Wacken [Open Air festival in Wacken, Germany] (including telephone conversations to and from England), that whilst they booked and promoted a British heavy metal band from Worcester, England, they (Thomas from Wacken Open Air) believed he had entered into contract with a thrash metal band from the U.S. Dear Thomas (ever the promoter professional), when he realised his error (well, in fact, he sent our team a link to Wikipedia of CYNIC U.S. and asked if that was us), and when receiving the negative response, binned us from the show.

"So, sorry, guys, we won't be playing. If anyone could suggest another venue, we would be all ears to come and play. In the meantime, and putting this distraction behind us, we will crack on with the album and get it out to you."

Also, it's pretty weak that they canned them from the show for THEIR mistake. You fucked up, deal with it.

further evidence that there are way to many metal bands and not enough typical, sellable names to go around. i bet if you go on myspace there are about 25 cynics. maybe people should just start making up their own words ;)

haha I remember one of the first In Dire Need shows had "Unhallowed" on the flyer. We all thought it was the DM band from new jersey. I showed up and there were a bunch of little kids on stage with "Unhallowed" written in magic marker on the bass drum head.

oh man i saw that band once. i thought the same thing. they played with a band called incinerate, who i think had a current member of the accursed who we met at newbury comics when i was 17 or so. haha. i think that was the first local show i ever went to and was so surprized that me and my friends were the only ones that showed up hahaha.

hahaha, oh nooooooo! the guitarist of that band floats onto here from time to time. its that kid sean from umass lowell that stops by about once a year to start a band/deride everyone else's taste in music, even though he's a decade behind on decent metal and calls dimmu borgir "cerebral".

well, they eventually did get it right; it's too bad they didn't keep the NWOBHM one on the show too and have them play one of the tent stages to confuse the hell out of people.
