One of my favorite bands. I can respect anything that Claypool or anything that the original Primus guys do. Herb's other side project Attention Deficit was a good listen.
Haha, corn corn, chicken and corn. That's genius right there. Brain tumor or not.
I'm a fan of anything that can't be confused with any other band. Primus falls in that category.
Come with us. We'll sail the seas of........................cheese.
primus spanks....
but surprised as you sweatpants that you didnt get bashed either...maybe its cuz ler USED be a metalhead during the days of posessed and the bashers sympathize
Shit's unreal; can't beat it. Long-time fan, although I'm really only familiar with the earlier shit. (Pork Soda and before.) What I've heard of the later stuff is ok.
I used to love Primus, now I just like them a whole lot but can't remember the last time I listened to them except for The Brown Album a couple months ago. Frizzle Fry is my favorite by a mile but the Brown Album needs mentioning in this thread. I also really dig some of Les's other projects including Oysterhead and Frog Brigade. I especially liked FB before they had much of their own stuff and just played things from Holy Mackerel and Sausage and stuff. Holy Mackerel I like as much as any Primus release.
Tim Alexander has always been an influence for me.
There are no bad Primus albums either. Don't get me wrong, Tim Alexander is probably my biggest influence, seriously (my 2nd kid's name is Timothy Alexander, and it would be coincidence if I wasn't such a Herb fan.) but even the shit with Bryan Mantia is solid.
Even Antipop was worth listening to tho. Not that many great songs but still better than half the other shit that comes out these days. I like the Bucket of Bernie Brains album. I saw Les on the Whales of Woe tour. I wasn't overly impressed but just being in the same room as Les Claypool is still an honor. Plus, they played a Sausage song and one off of the Holy Mackerel. I can't say that about too many other musicians. Not to take away from others. But, he has had quite an impact on my outlook on music.
having Pork Soda referred to as their earlier shit makes me feel really old : (
Then you, sir, are old. Pork Soda was, after all, at the tail end of the first half of their catalog - therefore over 50% of Primus releases came out after PS. IT'S SCIENCE.
Possessed - arguably, he was in the FIRST death metal band (depending on what definition you take).
He and Les were also in Blind Illusion, which was apparently progressive tech-thrash - I've never heard it, but with those two players, the idea sounds amazing. Come to think of it, maybe I'll track down some now and give you a review.
Listening to BI now; so far it's cool, but I'd have to take it home and listen to it on real speakers to get the full effect. Production is what you'd expect for a no-money debut from 1988.

Blind Illusion is pretty "meh." I was excited when I heard about it but let down when I actually got the mp3s. There's plenty better obscure old school prog thrash out there from that era. The only reason that band is even reasonably well-remembered is because of what the lineup later went on to do.

Wasn't that Larry Lalonde that was in Possessed?
Wait, what did I say?
*looks back*
Oh, yeah, that's what I thought they were asking. I saw "death metal band" in a Primus thread and my brain said "Possessed." My B.
The first time I ever really got "fucked up" was on my way to a Primus concert with my brother. I think I was like 13 and he was about 17 or so (obviously old enough to drive). The show was in Lewiston, ME and other than the fact that Limp Bizkit (whom was completely unknown at the time) opened the show, I cannot recall much of what happened that night.

It was the first time I ever saw one of these, to say the least....
still saddens me the amount of posers in this thread. real primus fans KNOW you're supposed to say "Primus Sucks" when you really like them.
COME ON PEOPLE GET WIH THE PROGRAM!
I just got tickets today for the nyc show. Cant wait, have not seen them in 11 years

I saw that fest thing in Bridgeport, that sounds absolutely awful. I hope there's a Boston date or something added to that tour, because if I have to go to either a hippie fest or New York City on a Sunday night to see Primus, I think I'll just be patient.
i saw primus on the pork soda tour. they filmed the video for DMV at that show. oct 1st 1993, greek theater in berkley ca. yuuup. mirv and the melvins also played
