i really fucking hope that he somehow proves that he did not willingly take steriods. the guy has been my idol (despite all the yankees bullshit) since i was aware of the existence of baseball. this really sucks. luckily we currently have positive Boston role models for sports like Josh Beckett, Tom Brady, and Kevin Garnett who have more important shit going on.

One of the things that jumped out at me during the hearings a few years ago was a question/statement by (senile) Jim Bunning in which he protested rather vociferously how wrong it was that athletes were getting better as they aged rather than falling apart physically. When put in these terms I don't see how it is that the public doesn't turn and say, "wait a minute, uh, can I have some", rather than continuing the inquisition.

If Clemens used peptides to keep healthy and extend his career then I say good for him. He was talented before and he's talented now. The difference is that while other pitchers are crippled by his age he's still world class. However he got to this point, I say good for him.

Maybe Clemens did use. Maybe he didn't. There is no proof. If the greatest pitcher in the game says he's clean - I am going to believe him until there is proof to the contrary.

I don't think this issue can move forward until the owners admit to their part of the guilt.

the problem with that logic is that it forces every other player into a situation where they have also do steriods/HGH in order to be competitive enough for a level playing field. now i can understand maybe if they tried allowing it under the circumstances that it was regulated to the improvement of physical health after injury. i do see a benefit to that, but i dont see how they can regulate something they cant control in the first place. the steriods may have improved and elongated the careers of Bonds, Clemens, etc...but you dont know what kind of side effects they have probably been dealing with as a result of usage. it is simply unfair to subject all the other players to such an obvious hazard.

...and you don't think most of MLB players haven't used? Test has been used in atheletics since the 30's, and use had been popularized in the 50's in all sports, it's naive to think that pro atheletes are all cleaned.

If the Mitchell Report proves anything, it proves that one needs no fucking proof whatsoever to ruin a man's reputation with just the mention of his name.

It's like Clemens said in the interview - the damage has been done, and regardless of how innocent he is, he will always be seen as a cheater.
