my Kodak SLR/n didn't like the old way that I processed the images so in dec 2006, I re-wrote what I did and I've been meaning to go back and re-do the images. I found a set today and redid them.
Dover Brick House (Dover, NH) the second is the original. the first is the newly processed.
there is actually no sharpening or usm. I just rewrote my image processing program to go from using Java2D to the newer model that other image processing apps use called JAI. it seems the origina antialiasing filter made jaggies on the original diagonal lines. the new one doesn't. the old one also had more noise in the shadows. mostly because of the interpolation when I resized the images.

I was actually looking at them exactly opposite! The originals look like thay had USM applied to them and the newer re-processed ones do look much smoother/softer/better.
My bad!
