In my opinion this album is the greatest Death Metal album ever. Trey Azagthoth and Pete Sandoval sure made history with this release.

If you ask me, Blessed Are The Sick is the best thing Morbid Angel ever wrote and is one of my absolute favorite metal albums of all time, let alone death metal.
Altars of Madness is certainly not without my appreciation though - I agree this album made history; it was a true milestone in the development of death metal and really raised the bar for the standards of this music forever.

I was a huge Morbid Angel freak. I saw them 3 times on the tours for this album.

I always wished that they had recorded Thy Kingdom Come for this LP. I love that song, and it would have sounded even better with the sound this album had.

Absolutely one of my favorites. The guitar work on it is amazing.

David Vincent's voice is awesome. i miss that dry, raspy, kind-of growl of old death metal.

I go back and forth between Blessed and.. umm... Domination. (I know, I know, but it just keeps running inside my head and the only way I'm gonna get it out is if I blow it out WITH A BULLET.)

I love "Domination". Under appreciated record in the world of Morbid Angel. I don't really care for anything after it that much. The first four all rule.

Altars was the first of it's kind, satanic death metal with blast beats etc. It was so evil and intimidating an album when it first came out;especially to a 13-14 yrold such as myself. My friends and I used to talk about how it made Slayer look like a Mr. Rogers house band or something because it had all these incantations in it and was so fucking serious with the blasphemy. I remember when Blessed... first came out I heard it on WRIU radio on this show called Sonic Fury in the summer of 1991 and I remember hearing Fall From Grace and thinking it was the best thing I ever heard, then I got the album and I remember it coming out of my speakers as an overproduced fluffy type sound that didn't do the songs justice. IMO Blessed lacked the rawness of Altars, but Altars was still plenty clear, you could hear everything so I don't know why Trey finds Blessed's production so superior, if in fact he still does.

Swyer is well written? He doesn't seem very smart actually. Sure he's very GPS friendly and can count because he loves his money just like the next jew. He's down wit da technologee yo, but he's not a very creative or spontaneously intelligent person at all.

I don't know.....Im sorry. I just have alot of respect for him thats all. Born and raised in the mean streets of Newport RI, yet against all odds, he's making something of himself, overcoming oppression and poverty, working for everything he has materialwise. And also your being a visionary, and creating a distro who thrives on distributing lowprice goods to the masses. Pretty good for a have-not.

Yeah well it's more like his mommy and daddy's old money helps to finance his label, which makes hardly any money on it's own and he basically lives of his parents. I'm not necessarily knocking him just for that, because I do as well, but I just don't know why you would make like hje's some kind of hard worker, he's not, even ask him personally. And every job he's ever had has been through his parents because they either owned the business or got him the job through them knowing someone within the family. Dwyer was never poor so I don't know where you're getting that info from dude.

Anyway, nice job tarnishing this thread with more talk about Dwyer, he's a piece of shit and shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a metal album.

The new band I've been playing with takes a lot of influence from Altars, as well as Blessed are the Sick. Our drummer plays in a similar style to Sandoval's performance on these albums.

what's the band?

toggletoggle post by rbss at Mar 21,2009 12:05pm
We don't have a name yet. Look for us to start playing shows soon. I would say the band sounds like a mix of Terrorizer, old Morbid Angel, Carcass with some more extreme grind and black metal influences.

The band consists of myself on bass/vocals, Kyle (ex Aganihm/Infantile Prostitute) on lead vocals, Mike Read (Unholy Trinity/Mechannibal) on drums, Kurt (Mechannibal) on guitar and Eric on second guitar/vocals.
