Is this self biasing? or do i have to go through the motions of doing it....

not self biasing, but fixed bias. you can mod it to manual bias, or just just order a set through dougstubes.com or the multitude of other tube dealers and let them know you have a 6505, theyll hook you up with a set that will work best for it.

This isn't true of the 5150's is it??

i hear it's best to pour water on the amp before you bias it.

is someone pulling my pudchain?

same thing for 6505s and 5150s. the IIs and +s have a pot on the back that can slightly adjust the bias from cold to less cold, not really a huge amount but enough to keep it cranked.

SO I can buy a set of tubes online that are biased for my 5150 already instead of having Jeremy bias it for me everytime?

Thanks a ton. I'll look that up.

Also... What do you think is the problem. Sound is lacking and very muddy/ fuzzy sounding.

Power tubes or Pre-amps

when was the last time you retubed? ill go ahead and guess that youve never retubed the thing and you need to retube everything. depending on how much you play, youre going to want to retube the power section anywhere from every 6-8 mos to every year and a half/two. the pre section can generally be changed less frequently (every year or two).

No, it isn't but he has changed my tubes in the past so he's probably lying (as usualy) and claiming he's biasing it but he's really just replacing my tubes haha...douche.

Thanks!

If Power, i was going to JJ 6L6's
Pre-amp... Havent looked into any (SUGGESTIONS!)

I've had this head for maybe... 2-3 months? I bought it used so it was probably never re-tubed.

The question i was trying to get accross before was... Do i have to manually Bias this head or is it self biasing.

i answered all of your questions already in this thread. your best best is to READ WHAT I POSTED.

here, so you dont have to go through all 10 gigantic posts [/sarcasm]...

yes, you need to change ALL of your tubes (not just pre or power), ALL OF YOUR TUBES NEED TO BE CHANGED.

replace them with JJ 6L6s for power, and 2 tung sol 12AX7 for v1 & v2 and JJ 12AX7s for the rest.

I run ruby 6l6's in the power section. I run sovtek 12ax7's in the first 3 preamp slots, and JJ's in the last 2. Working great for me right now. Still has a shitty clean tone though.
