The long and short of it is two rich assholes (one of them an exec at Google) are in the midst of putting together a football league to rival the NFL. It will be called the United Football League (UFL) I guess when they saw how well the XFL did they figured it'd be a walk in the park.
Their rationale behind starting up a league to compete with the NFL?
"(Former NFL coach) Bill Walsh used to tell me that the last 20 players cut from every team were almost interchangeable with the last 20 players to make the team," Hambrecht says.
Yup, that's what retains the NFL's public interest... expendable, run of the mill players, that can be replaced at any time. I'll bet people are lining up like crazy to see a bunch of adequate football players that the NFL didn't want play mediocre football. With that kind of attitude you're better off just going down to the park and watching 8th grade kids play touch football.
