What's your setup? Drum racks can turn out to be less hardware if you have lots of drums/cymbals and are movable in one piece, but if you don't really need it it'll be more trouble than it's worth. That said, if you do think your kit is large enough that you'd benefit from a rack, I would go with a pearl icon. The gibraltar racks are also popular but the bars are round and can sometimes slip while the icon's bars are square making slipping impossible.

agreed with ZJD, usually more of a pain in the ass than they're worth unless you have 3 or more toms that you plan to mount as well as the majority of your cymbals. that being said, they take up a shit ton of space in the van, stands collapse faster.

racks are terrible

i like my rack but i cut all the parts off i dont need. it makes it really easy to set up when ur on. i have one of the full size curved gibralter ones. its a pain to store and carry but its all about getting down to a routine. it makes your setup more consistent/sturdy if u do it right.

Racks make life possible. There's a small Gibralter @ Mr.C's Music, used. I think it's on consignment

after a lot of use, the circular tubed racks can spin on you, so i recomend square-tubed pearl racks.

the cure for spining racks: get memory locks drill a hole through the rack/lock and bolt it in place. square racks are cumbersome and hard to setup and are big.

there is a company making carbon fiber replacement tubes for the gibralter racks that i have my eye on. once i have a standard set up i cut off all excess metal. example: the ends of cymbal stands the extra part sticking out of your hihat. If you arnt sure about your set up dont cut it. but if you are sure ur gonna keep it for a while and you play out alot just chop it off. My drums actually take up less space than alot of non rack kits of similar size.
