New site? Maybe some day.
coming off of 495 on to 95n in northern mass. and all the power went out of my car. I was able to run on the electric engine a mile or so to a gas station right off exit 60.
my 13.2 gallon tank took 16gallons that day. |
Just curious. Do you own or lease your hybrid? |
since leases are like 12K-15K miles per year, I would have to stop driving around may each year. |
I was just thinking about the cost for repairs and such, but that makes perfect sense. |
I haven't had anything to rapair yet. but the maintenance on it is a bit price. like $100-300 whenever I bring it in. |
I want one. If only just to give oil companies less money. |
Yea but you'd be giving the Japanese MORE money...
And I know how much you hate the Japanese Pam. |
Does it go really slowly when it's running solely on the electric motor? |
dftg said: Does it go really slowly when it's running solely on the electric motor? |
I'd heard that the electric motor doesn't go any faster than 40, or maybe what I heard was if you're driving over 40, the car doesn't use the electric motor... I can't remember. |
My parents just got a hyrbid SUV... |
Kinslayer said: My parents just got a hyrbid SUV... |
Doesn't that kindof defeat the purpose? |
i guess if ur gonna get an suv... get a hybrid... but yes |
do hybrids really live up to all the hype? on paper they certainly do, but will a honda or toyota hybrid last as long as a regular honda or toyota? |
clearly this can't be known for sure since it's such a young technology. But on paper, again, I see no reason why they wouldn't last as long as regular ol' cars. |
I have a honda civic hybrid and it's the only hybrid that is a standard. it rules. I just figured out why when I got new tires, the gas milage dropped 10%. it's cause the tires I got were bigger so it only seems like the mileage went down.
I do over 40mpg.
the civics aren't suppose to run on just the electric motor. that's toyotas that do that. the civic is like a pussy gas engine with an electronic turbo charger. so last night I was running on the turbo charger only. |
also, electric engines have constant torque so that they can spin up the gas engine to 1000rpms immediately. they basically have the best power from take off. gas engines don't. so if you kept turning your gas engine on/off by it's self, you would waste more gas getting it to 1000rpm. with the electric engine doing it, you save gas. so the engine will just click itself off. the only thing that sucks is you need to push the clutch all the way in for the gas engine to kick back on.. oh that has caused some issues.

I bought my hybrid for about 2-3K more than the car without. I figured 2-3K over 48months to support a technology that should be in all our cars? damn right. if all the 10-25mpg shit boxes out there were upgraded, then gas would be cheaper and so would the technology. |

Word. If I were legally allowed to drive, I would totally drive a hybrid. |
and if fucking Jewconn didn't take all my money, I'd own one too. |
Let me go find some bitches and upgrade their BUTTS.
Cause baby likes back. |
it's cute when you frontin like you like girls. |

2-3k more is nothing. The savings in gas I'm sure far outweighs that price difference. My old lady said something about considering buying a hybrid. I think in about 48 months the technology will pretty much be in a good portion (at least 1/2) of cars produced....unless they come out with something else. Do you have to plug it in to charge it when you're home? (I know, it may sound like a dumb question - just wondering) |
no, you can't plug it in.
it doesn't make sense to plug in the civics anyhow.
I only have 25 months left before the 48 months are up and I've don't 83K miles.
I be the convo with your old lady went like this:
"I want to get a hybrid" - her
"no fucking way, get a car that runs on the burning hearts of muslims and shut up." - you |
PSH, rev..my Subaru Forester is a much more liberal hippie douchebag mobile than yours |
those get liek 27mpg. have fun sucking the oil companies cock |
sorry, it was all i could afford on my meager earnings...and gas-wise, its a big step up from my 94 Pontiac Bonneville |
Well if you want/need and SUV, which my mother does, and you care about the environment/saving $$ on gas, then NO. A hybrid SUV isn't an oxy moron as implied above... |
Thats the thing. I would LOVE if Subaru had a Forester or Outback hybrid. I'd be all over it as soon as I could afford it. But i'd look like a fool getting all my gear into a prius or a fucking Civic. |

woah, do have my house bugged or something? Either that, or you know me all too well....
I might have called her a hippie but I don't exactly remember. Even though I quit weed, my short term memory is still shot to shit.
callng her a hippie? how droll. |
afterall, she hasn't even seen al gore's powerpoint movie set to climactic holloywood music and she has already bought onto the whole global warming craze. |
she HASNT seen it? she can't love the earth and flowers if she hasn't alwready seen it in the theaters, in IMAX, and bought the DVD or BLURAY. what a wanna be. |
She's actually pretty hard line like myself. I mean, it shouldn't be much of a surprise. Otherwise, there would be no way she'd be able to put up with my rants and stubborn opinions if she didn't at least agree with me somewhere in the 80 sum odd percentile.
WTF is bluray? is that some sort of transitional technology like laserdiscs that will shit out after a year or two? |
i have a new civic but its not a hybrid coupe... it was like 5 grand extra.... ps the insight(hybrid) is stick shift as well. unfortunately it only holds 2 people. why are there no hybrid civic coupes? and they make the roof higher so it doesnt look as good as the others. im pretty certain it has nothing to do with the hybrid aspects. |
ps i think the milage difference is like 150% of mine. im rated at 40 hwy and i think u r @ 60 |
I'm rated 50-ish highway, but now that there is ethanol, my milage went down 10% from that. |
yea i usually get like 30 something for somereason i thought u were rated higher... maybe thats the ugly ass prius. i know the insight is 66mpg |
Hungtableed said: do hybrids really live up to all the hype? on paper they certainly do, but will a honda or toyota hybrid last as long as a regular honda or toyota? |
Think of it this way...great gas mileage, but after so much time with the electric motor, look at all of the batteries you have to replace.
And no, they don't make ones you can plug in yet.
um yea they do... infact the insight has a windpower charger kit u can buy. plus electric cars are pretty good... just fuel companies/govt are being cocks about that shit. i havent seen it but i heard the documentary called who killed the electric car is good. these cars are for rich people and fucking fast as shit but i mean if mass produced im sure they wouldnt cost that much. http://www.teslamotors.com/ |
Yeah, but exotic cars like that aren't exactly ever mass produced. Not to mention that's not exactly an original design, cuz it looks just like a Saleen S7 (the car in Bruce Almighty). Give me a fucking GTO or Barracuda any day and I'll show you torque. |
ive never heard of a gto doing a 4 second flat 0-60. it takes a fast sports bike to get 3 seconds... as for torque this thing has no drive train. sooo its all how the motor is adjusted. but i was trying to say in the first place that having an electric car that was not a super car is feasible if one this crazy is under 100,000. Im really happy with my civic... if you could make something along these lines that has twice the 0-60 time for a little less im sure it would get alot of use. yea sure u cant do long road trips but circa 250miles is pretty good for a daily driver. maybe gas stations could actually switch out battery cells kinda like they do with propane tanks so people dont have to wait 3 hours for a charge. |
That would actually be a good idea. You should email the mobile or exxon headquarters and tell them that idea. Make a convenient store even more convenient. |
ill go email gofuckmyself@exxon.com... hehehe. ps mobil is exxon hence Exxon-Mobil |
fudge! I typed out this whole thing and then my phone lost it. GE had a set of plug in cars. they made like 2000 of them? and then recalled all of them for no reason and destroyed them.
the batteries almost never have to be replaced.
There's no definitive word on replacement costs because they are almost never replaced. According to Toyota, since the Prius first went on sale in 2000, they have not replaced a single battery for wear and tear.
the batteries are kept between 30% and 70% charged which is the "sweet spot" for them. |
that was GM not GE. Yea so that was the whole "who killed the electric car thing" i think. Its really fucking expensive to start a car company and there are countless requirements to sell new roadworthy cars. this is another govt is run by oil monsters scenario. there was an incredibly long waiting list for the EV1s or ev2s or something and they all got cancelled. and cars were crushed. |
http://www.ev1.org/
if it wasnt for these assholes in power id probably driving a sick lookin electric car right now and be saving like 60 bucks a week |
i hope petrolem gets sucked dry sooner so i refuse to go hybrid. |
If they make a 300hp full-size hybrid pick-up, I would certainly buy it. Until then, the available models do not serve my redneck purposes. |
there was suppose to be a hybrid duley already I thought. I'll look it up when I get to work. |
c'mon edna!! git in the damn house and stop droolin all o'er that there e-lec-tronic aoutomobile from the city. damn, we been usin gas since we sold that place up the lake. No sense-in stoppin now. |
the_reverend said: there was suppose to be a hybrid duley already I thought. I'll look it up when I get to work. |
GM makes some useless abortion, where cylinders shut off when the truck is idling or something like that. I haven't heard of any true hybrids in a half-ton pick-up -- let me know if I am wrong. |
I found what you were talking about. that sounds lame... 1/2 of that is what your car battery does from the alternator anyhow.
CHEVY SILVERADO/GMC SIERRA
The Chevy Silverado/GMC Sierra hybrid, the world’s first full-size gas/electric hybrid pickup, features GM’s 5.3-liter V-8 and four-speed automatic, coupled with hybrid technology that, GM says, delivers up to 13 percent better fuel economy — 18 city/20 hwy, according to the EPA. The result is the best pickup mpg and reduced emissions.
Like other hybrids, these pickups boast an engine start/stop function to save gas, along with regenerative braking, which turns the electric motor into a generator to charge batteries during deceleration. Extra fuel savings come from shutting off fuel when the truck is coasting or braking. The electric motor does not assist the gas engine as in other hybrids.
At a stoplight, the gas engine stops, but accessories continue working on stored electrical power. When the light turns green and the driver releases the brake, the gasoline engine seamlessly kicks on.
Among unique features are four 120-volt, 20 amp electrical auxiliary power outlets under the rear seat and in the pickup bed that can accommodate up to four accessories. With this auxiliary generator capability, the truck's generator can operate when the truck is parked without a key in the ignition and can be used to power anything from tools at a construction site to appliances at a campsite.
It debuts this fall in Florida, California, Nevada, Alaska, Oregon and Washington. Price: $32,695. |
Could you actually show up to a worksite without getting a hammer rifled at your head for driving a hybrid? |
Rev,,,unrealted topic....why cant I download the 'talking' file from the Iranach live show? |

Yeah, it's pretty weak. I think my Tundra is rated for 15 city/18 highway, so the "hybrid" Silverado really isn't all that much better. Plus Toyota makes a better truck anyway -- no wonder GM's stock has been in the shitter.
i wouldnt go electric on a work truck... electronic things dont do well under strain. like even in powerful cordless drills and stuff. if you wanna improve ur gas milage id get one of these... i wanna do this to my van but i have to fix a bunch of other shit first http://www.fuel-from-water.com/ |
yeah alex, cause you use a non-electric drill? how's that gas powered drill doing ya?!?
that water product sounds like some bull shit. |

It is called cylinder shut-off. It's a V8 (LS1, the 350) that runs on only 4 cylinders when driving normally to save gas mileage, but when you need some aggressive driving, the other four cylinders kick in, adding a lot more power and torque. They're in the new Impalas and a few other cars, and they will be in the new Camaro SS when it comes out. |
compressed air. u cant drill heavy metal very well with an electric drill... i mean maybe some crazy expensive drill with lots of horse power. if you are drilling stuff all the time like at an amature machine shop chances are you shouldnt be mucking around with 19.2volt craftsman special. as for cars they have had compressed air cars but they really sucked... they were produced in mexco for a while i think. basically itll be alot harder to make a tough electric truck and it should be focused on less than making passanger vehicles. |
I knew you were going to come back with compressed air. |
Kinslayer said: Well if you want/need and SUV, which my mother does, and you care about the environment/saving $$ on gas, then NO. A hybrid SUV isn't an oxy moron as implied above... |
What is it with moms and SUV's? You'd have to pry my mom's explorer away from her cold dead hands. |
well its similar to gaspowered engines. instead of the the expansion from an explosion its the expansion from compressed air. |
kinslayer: yea honestly i bet your mom does not need an suv. maybe a large car with lots of space but not a car with big wheels and big engine. and honestly probably not even 4wd or Awd if shes got that. unless she enjoys doing donuts on the soccer field. |
sxealex said: kinslayer: yea honestly i bet your mom does not need an suv. maybe a large car with lots of space but not a car with big wheels and big engine. and honestly probably not even 4wd or Awd if shes got that. unless she enjoys doing donuts on the soccer field. |
Why would you do donuts with 4WD or AWD? THe point of those is to add better traction and not lose control. Donuts are best with RWD. |
depends how big you want the donuts to be. |
The thing is the best way to do donuts is to floor (or clutch drop with a standard) it with the wheel turned, that way you're burning out, which makes for awesome donuts. But with 4WD or AWD, it's damn hard to do a burnout with having shitloads of torque cuz there isn't one axle that's pushing too hard for the other, because they're both working together. |
the_reverend said: yeah alex, cause you use a non-electric drill? how's that gas powered drill doing ya?!?

That thing would drill through Mastodons |
It's similar to the one I have -- hopefully will get to use it on Sunday. |
yeah, nice auger. I would always use a pick... ice spade.. or whatever. you know the long heavy pole with the blade at the bottom and if you didn't put the rope around your wrist you lost it quickly. |
Yup, I have one of those too. Once the ice gets over 10" or so, picks are pretty painful to use. |
I think the silliest thing is watching a grown man using one of those round strainers to clear the ice off the top. makes me laugh every time. |
u can do 360s in awd cars. u just need to get a head start. i was more referning to the big wheels tho... not the 4wd feature. i have wasted way too much time doing donuts in rw,fw and even a few awd cars. fw drive cars are actually the most fun in the snow cuz u can drift 180 and then slam it in reverse and floor it to make it all the way around. but yea i wasnt really trying to point out what cool tricks she could do in her suv. ... once i got a jeep cherokee rwd for 200 bucks. shit was awesome, so strong i go tthat thing like 3 feet in the air driving near these power lines in Lexington behind minuteman. and i would hit 1foot curbs head on at like 40mph and it would kinda ollie. im surprised that nothing crucial broke... just the clutch went and i got rid of it. |
