Fucking great album. I just got it and am loving tracks 1-4 so far...the rest I'm still biting into.

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Nov 16,2006 6:58pm
i haven't been able to find this in stores. the shitty newbury comics in dartmouth never has new releases.

Immortal lite, if you've ever heard the 80s metal guru Thor, it sounds like Immortal crossed with Thor (his 80s stuff, not the recent). If that sounds appealing, you will love it.

I love Thor, but I'd rather have Immortal personally.

You know, in my opinion, Immortal took themselves more seriously than necessary.

Look at their promo/album cover photos and tell me they take themselves too seriously.

Of course I have and I own "Sons of Northern Darkness". I like them, don't get me wrong, I'm just saying they are kind of the butt of black metal's joke.

"Blizzard Beasts" is way better.

Pure Holocaust is their best.

It's fucking outstanding.

toggletoggle post by dftg at Nov 17,2006 12:21am
I'm not crazy about it. His voice works in a metal band, but in a sort of hard rock band like this, it doesn't sound that good. just my opinion of course.

If you had and owned At The Heart Of Winter, you would know that this is entirely OK and that they get a free pass for it. Pictures of Horgh's pasty stomach are a small price to pay to get to the music on that record.

They never took themselves seriously at all, so I don't know why you'd form that opinion.

Diabolical Full Moon Mysticism is the best

Scientific studies have shown that if you like Sons of Northern Darkness the best your in fact homosexual

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Nov 17,2006 10:35am
i'd say its a tie between Pure Holocaust and Battles in the North

I re-read what I wrote before and I realize that I meant the fans took them more seriously than necessary. I'm sure Immortal never expected to get big.

And I can't say I like "Sons of Northern Darkness" better because it's the only one I own.

i love immortal and the few songs i've heard from I are great.

Go to a record store and buy "Blizzard Beasts" and "Battles in the North".

I will look into it.

My biggest problem with black metal is the poor production quality on the albums. I mean I want to actually enjoy what the musicians are doing piece by piece and not have to decipher through shitty analog noise just to get a headbang or two.

toggletoggle post by Anti-Racism  at Nov 18,2006 2:23am
You need power metal.

toggletoggle post by ConquerTheBaphomet  at Nov 18,2006 2:48am
Are you kidding me? I'm a HUUUUUUGE power metal fan. Some of my favorite bands include:

Blind Guardian
Cellador
Demons And Wizards
Primal Fear
Sonata Arctica
(old) Iced Earth
3 Inches of Blood
Helloween
Rhapsody

toggletoggle post by Anti-Racism  at Nov 18,2006 3:22am
The only Immortal album you might possibly like is "At the Heart of Winter," which is like old Iced Earth and old AC/DC crossed with Dissection.

toggletoggle post by DrinkHardThrashHard  at Nov 18,2006 9:28am edited Nov 18,2006 9:29am
I like all the Immortal albums.

3 Inches of Blood is not power metal, it's ironic metalcore kids playing At the Gates style riffs and making fun of power metal vocals. And you bought it.

That's really only some of the black metal that does the lo-fi on purpose. I happen to like some of that, because I get the point.

There is a lot of hi-fi black metal out there though with great production that I'm sure you'd like.

The new ANAAL NATHRAKH album is amazing and it has great production.

John, you should come down to CT on Dec. 13th. My new band, Ipsissimus, is playing a two-song introductory set at the end of Catalyst's and one of those songs is a cover of "The Sun No Longer Rises". Should be a scorcher.

If you can't enjoy the music with shitty production, then black metal probably isn't for you. The minimalist recording is supposed to enhance the mood of the songs.
I don't care about headbanging anymore.

toggletoggle post by ConquerTheBaphomet  at Dec 4,2006 8:06am
I like black metal that has substance to it and the albums were recorded by adults not pre-teens in a basement.

toggletoggle post by Ryan_M at Dec 4,2006 3:47pm
Poor recording gives black metal its substance. There's nothing wrong with recording in a basement - it's a good atmosphere and it's much cheaper than renting some hi-tech studio. And please don't shit on teenagers playing metal. Possessed were in high school when "Seven Churches" was released, and that's argued as the first true death metal record next to "Scream Bloody Gore". Nihilist(later Entombed) were only about 15 or 16 when they were making demos and that's some classic underground shit.
