I've been using windows media to burn my CDs to my computrer, but it's a pain in the ass because it names every song/cd 'unknown artist' than I haveto go and manually rename everything.

I want something that will recognize the album and rip it accordingly.

also, windows media rips as WMAs. I want something that will rip to MP3.

Also, it's got to be freeware.

media play does rip mp3s but you gotta find the setting and i think it's hidden.

try audio grabber

I found the rip to MP3 setting and right near it was the option to rip with artist/song names. Thanks man.

If you're just looking for a program that can rename and tag mp3s that are already ripped you should check out TagScanner. It's freeware, and is very versitile. You can rename, tag, look up CDDB shit, all sorts of amazing crap.

http://www.tucows.com/preview/341611

I usually use it to take a bunch of mp3s, look up the CDDB info and add it to the tags, then I have it rename the files based on the tags, then I alter a couple things and have it change the tags once again. Lots of automation in that program, too.

....tags

I use Itunes, it uses Gracenote CDDB to find CD and Track names, I think out of all the CD's I have ripped, there was only like 3-4 that were not in it's database

yeah i started using Itunes but was pissed because not all my mp3s were named right so i had just a whole bunch of random mp3's that weren't organized by album or band or anything. Then i found these 2 programs. One automatically updated the ID3 tags sort of similar to that tagscanner thing and this other downloaded all the album art.

FreeRip. It's free, rips to any format you'd like, any quality, and links to the freedb to name artist, album, and songs for you. Exactly what you want.

Lots of shitty software recommended. Audiograbber or Exact Audio Copy, plz.
