I think the order(from first to last) is:

Nocturnum
Sacreligion
Kultur
Face Full of Shotgun

There also might be another band added, but nothing confirmed yet

18 Wheels of Justice has been added

The new order(from first to last) is:

Nocturnum
Sacreligion
18 Wheels of Justice
Kultur
Face Full of Shotgun

more people should share shannon's sentiments

say THAT one 5 times fast

Thanks for the update.

I know of another reeeeally good local band that would draw a big crowd and are thinking about playing this show, but I won't say who it is unless they're actually booked. You know... it's not my place to give out that information, but I can drop little hints like this just to get people more excited about the show. ;)

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Nov 7,2006 12:38pm
wouldnt putting the name out make people more interested? most local bands claim to draw alot of people but dont actually, so that doesnt really narrow it down.

toggletoggle post by Samantha at Nov 7,2006 12:52pm
With 5 bands already, I'm thinking it's unlikely that anyone else will be added. Plus, there is a chance that it will lead to a different show on an entirely different date.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Nov 7,2006 1:07pm
we should get FFOS and Kultur to our house before hand and we'll party it up.

toggletoggle post by SacreligionNLI at Nov 7,2006 1:10pm
a little birdie told me watters won a party at mcfaddens again

they almost got shut down for the free booze thing though since happy hours are illegal in MA, so now it's discounted drinks($1 beers, $5 pitchers...not sure on the mixed drinks)

a party at our place would be easier though, since we have to leave to go down to the club fairly early anyway

i'll talk to sam from face full and see what time we need to be down there and if they'd be interested in doing that

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Nov 7,2006 1:12pm
it wasnt free though. we paid 10 bucks. happy hours are illegal in MA??? why the fuck is this state so gay? oh yeah because they dont like to promote happiness. i bet miserable hours are more than welcome.

toggletoggle post by SacreligionNLI at Nov 7,2006 1:14pm
nah it's more like miserable years as opposed to happy hours(and even though we did pay to get in, it was more like a cover charge and they were still technically serving free booze)

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Nov 7,2006 1:16pm
thats so dumb. i wonder if there is some booze regulatory swat team that barges in at the first sign of any happy hours. hut hut hut hut hut hut hut.

I don't know. What is the theme this time? I missed the superhero one, but I was at the white trash party.

The party I'm talking about from Friday was actually my birthday party. It was at an apartment, and Nocturnum played. The landlord lives downstairs and is totally okay with them playing very loud black metal as long as they stop at midnight. There were a whole lot of people there!

as long as the strippers arent busted. i went to this bachelor party fairly recently with strippers, and all of them were fucking nasty. most were missing a lot of teeth, but others you could tell that they have recently given birth by the grotesque stretch marks or C-Section scars. it was disgusting.

If it's in Worcester, there is a 95% chance that they will be busted.

The strippers are on their own if they enrage the metal bitches. Ha ha! I have no problem with strippers; however, I also have no problem with throwing some chick into the dumpster with all of the rest of the trash if she fails to respect my boundaries.

It was definitely good to see so many people at the show. My only complaint was that Ralph's had the order wrong on their myspace page, and I know at least 15-20 people who came just to see Nocturnum but missed them because they didn't know they were playing first.

Umm... I guess I will be the first to do this, and I'm hoping it will encourage other people to give some feedback as well.

Nocturnum: They were having numerous sound issues, but I think they still did a great job. The only reason why they had any screw-ups was because the sound guy must have changed the levels on the monitors after they did their sound check, and they could not hear themselves at all. I've heard them sound much better than they did, but I think their music is so original and well-written that it speaks for itself in spite of any sound issues. Besides, being the first band sucks anyway. You always get the crappiest sound, and the crowd isn't drunk enough to flip out to your music yet.

Sacreligion: I think the sound guy had finally finished fine-tuning everything at this point. I don't know what it sounded like on stage, but the sound was pretty good from the crowd. For the style of music they play, Sacreligion is really good, but it's not really the kind of metal I'm into... just a matter of personal taste. I really enjoyed the Type O cover, though. The second they started playing "Gravitational Constant", I went completely ape shit.

18 Wheels of Justice: I can't give them much of a review because I spent most of their set walking around Ralph's searching for a couple of drunk people who wandered off. I made amends by hooking up a couple of the band members with some Jaegermeister, though. Sorry guys. :( I'll catch you another time.

Kultur: Kultur is another band that plays a style of metal that really isn't what I'm into. For what they do, though, they do it well. The whole crowd was freaking out, and there was a brutal pit.

Face Full of Shotgun: They sounded even better at this show than they did when I saw them at Metal Thursday. The sound guy did a better job this time, and I was more able to hear all of Sam's sick guitar solos. Their music is very complex. Now that I've seen them quite a few times, I'm finally more able to identify how all of the parts fit together. It sort of reminds me of when I first bought Emperor's "Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk", and even though I loved it, I couldn't listen to it for very long because the complexity of it made my head hurt. It took me a couple of years to fully understand and appreciate all of the nuances of that album. Face Full of Shotgun has the same effect on me.

It couldn't possibly be a biased oppinion. It's funny that the only bands that were your style were your friends bands. I wouldn't want to play Worcester if the review was "I'm sure your good at what you do but your not my style." That's just a nice way of saying a band sucks. Fucking Lame!

toggletoggle post by Samantha at Nov 14,2006 5:42pm
Here is a clue for you: I like black metal. I like death metal. I like thrash metal. I am NOT a fan of Hardcore. Just look at how the bands describe themselves on myspace. Gee... It's funny that the only bands whose style I wasn't a fan of where HARDCORE. It has nothing to do with who I know, who I am friends with, or anything else. I'm simply not a fan of hardcore. It's nothing to take personally.

Nocturnum
Black Metal / Progressive / Metal

Sacreligion
Metal / Death Metal / Hardcore

18 Wheels of Justice
Metal / Thrash / Hardcore

KULTUR
Metal / Hardcore / Thrash

Face Full of Shotgun
Thrash / Death Metal / Grindcore

Wow! What a really big coincidence, Captain Obvious!... And if you don't want to play in Worcester if someone reviewed you by saying, "I'm sure your (SIC) good at what you do but your (SIC) not my style." then you're probably not ready to play anywhere. There are a lot of really good bands that get reviews that simply state, "This band sucks!" and they deal with it. It comes with the territory. The fact is that they have the balls to get up on stage and play what they love. Not everyone will like your band... and just because someone isn't a fan of the style of music you play, it doesn't mean that they can't appreciate your musical ability. It's not a nice way of saying that a band sucks. It's a way of expressing your honest opinion... "I don't like hardcore, but I think your band has some talent". If you can't deal with someone having an opinion about that, the problem is entirely yours.

toggletoggle post by SacreligionNLI at Nov 14,2006 5:48pm

that doesn't make any sense. you wouldn't want to play worcester because one person didn't like a couple bands as much as the other ones? that's one opinion out of 200,000 in worcester...but i guess it must mean it sucks to play there. and if you can't handle someone not liking the music you make then don't share it or get the fuck out of the business

Now as for the show on Friday...
I had an amazing time. When I go to shows, I make a point of having an amazing time. What else is there? I work ridiculously hard in the "serious" parts of my life, I rock out ridiculouly hard afterwards and usually knock some heads around (frequently my own). I thoroughly enjoyed watching and listening to all the bands. Although I wouldn't toatally agree that those called "hardcore" in the comments above really fall into that category (except maybe in that elements of the hardcore influence do surface from time to time), I can step back without prejudice and realize what aspects of the sound don't have the same appeal to certain types of metalheads as they do to me. I happen to love hardcore. I also happen to love thrash, death, black, and grind metal as well as many other random and varried styles of music. Like mostly everyone, I have certain preferences; however, if I'm in the mood to listen to one kind as opposed to another, that's not to say everything else sucks. There is a difference between stating an opinion, giving constructive criticism and straight up insulting someone's creative attempts. Likewise, if someone wants to give added support to their friends' bands, boyfriends, girlfriends, etc, what's wrong with that? We're here to talk about the music, the pit, and stuff specific to the scene right? Why attack each other?

toggletoggle post by Samantha at Nov 14,2006 8:16pm
"Captain obvious" obviously lacks some reading comprehension skills, and this is why I will no longer pay attention to this person. People like this are exactly why a lot of people do not post on RTTP. There is far too much pointless drama on this site.

In any case, I'm glad that my post did eventually encourage more people to talk about what they thought of the bands that played (which was really the point in the first place). I think that bands like to hear honest feedback from the people who have seen them. I find it hard to believe that any of the bands would be offended by my saying that I think they can play well, and their music is well-written, but that I'm not a fan of their hardcore influences. At least I have something of value to say about their music, rather than being a total meathead about it like the anonymous "Captain obvious".

More than a decade ago, I lived in a city that had a big hardcore scene. I saw A LOT of hardcore bands back then, including some that are fairly well-known now but weren't years ago when I saw them. A lot of hardcore fans would be creaming their pants if they knew about some of the shows I attended. Honestly, I got bored with hardcore. What really sealed the deal was when the obnoxious jocks started coming to shows. They had absolutely no sense of pit etiquette, but I guess it was fun to watch them run around after I knocked their hats off their heads while they were in the pit. The music changed over time, and I didn't like what it had become. Anyway, I've always liked black, death, and thrash metal much better than I ever liked hardcore.

On the other hand, there are a lot of people who love hardcore and/or death metal but would rather shove a red hot poker into their eye sockets than listen to any band with a keyboard player. Sacreligion does something unique by incorporating a keyboard into the style of music that they play. I think that is cool. I'm sure that none of them think I'm an asshole because their hardcore influences are not within the realm of my own personal tastes. They seem like decent people.

Digging graves, being exzactly whats wrong with the metal scene, not having a real opinion, not dancing around in hardcore pits like I have pubic lice,oh and who can forget being lame...Its what I do and if not me,who would get you so angry at the world? I could have voiced my opinion about this show in a serious way,but why bother. I know who I came out to see, regardless if I know these people on a friendship basis or not. Adam from Kultur and I had a long conversation in the parking lot about alot of genres of metal,He's aware Kultur isn't my thing. Yet that didn't stop me from watching them @ Ralphs, and I have to say their Seplutura cover was very pit inducing.

Yuck! That picture was nasty!

Yeah, I'm sure that people like me who go to tons of shows, enthusiastically band their heads, and are friendly with lots of people are reeeeealllly what is wrong with the metal scene. I wonder if the anonymous idiot is aware that Sacreligion was one of the bands to play that night. That person probably wasn't even at the show. Of course, I'm going to have more to say about the two bands I've seen 5 million times as opposed to a couple of bands that I've only seen twice (and hope to see again in the future, BTW).

Sometimes, I think it's more of a compliment to hear that someone who normally doesn't like the style of music you play thinks that your band is good. The people who are really into any genre will more often than not like a band that plays the kind of music they like. Those people are easy to impress, but for someone who isn't a fan of the style to say that your band has talent... Well, that is when you know that you really are good at what you do because you made a good impression on someone who wouldn't normally like what you play.

Anonymous people are stupid when they assume that they know who you are, and they know who all of your friends are. I've probably talked to the singer in Kultur about as many times as I've talked to some of the members of FFOS that I don't know so well. He is actually a pretty nice guy and a fan of black metal.

our use of the term "hardcore" is simply for lack of a better term on myspace. i would never even compare one second of our music to hardcore. i personally hate hardcore and always have. if you werent playing hardcore about 10 or 15 years ago, then you arent hardcore.

I love Carnivore. Believe it or not, Peter Steele actually considers a lot of Carnivore's influences to be "hardcore". A lot of people now wouldn't understand that, because when he talks about "hardcore", he is talking about what it was 10-15 years ago... not what it has become now.

As a side note, for anyone who thinks that I should shut up, I would just like to point out that I have been steering the conversation away from drama and toward an actual meaningful discussion all along. Isn't that the purpose of a messageboard? It certainly accomplishes a lot more than telling people to shut up.

Hardcore was what came out of people who had their roots stretching somewhere between the punk rock and metal scenes. When it comes to hardcore, defining the lines between the styles have always been blurry, but get more and more so with every passing year and new trends within these scenes. I'm a libra- I'm indecisive, I get bored with the same flavor day in / day out- that's why I expose myself to a wide variety of everything. I can never be satisfied with one favorite this or that. I like punk (in limited doses) but have a huge preference for metal- this is probably where I get my taste for hardcore (again, not ALL of it, but there are certain bands within the category that really do get me going: Converge, Death Before Dishonor, Death Threat and Throwdown for examples, and some Agnostic Front even though that band has changed so much over the years... but anyway, that's a debate for some other time/place). Newer bands claiming to be hardcore usually aren't very close to it at all musically speaking but use the label for the exact reason noted by Yeti, lack of any other understood label. Labels are frequently misleading anyway. Aside from that, labels are often used to denote a lifestyle that goes beyond the music itself. What we saw last Friday was not a "hardcore" scene, no doubt about it. It was straight up metal in attitude and personality- no matter how you want to classify the bands' individual sounds. Everyone there was pretty likeminded and seemed to be on the same page regardless of who preferred which band or what style. I have plenty of bruises from the pit to prove everyone was having fun.
So anyway, does anyone else think we need to get off this subject since that was last weekend. What's everyone doing this weekend? Anyone else going to Suffucation / Decapitated?

toggletoggle post by Samantha at Nov 15,2006 12:21pm
I'll be at the Suffocation/Hypocrisy show. We're all supposed to be meeting up for some band room pre-gaming. That could be pretty crazy considering how much alcohol some of the people we know are capable of drinking. There will most likely be a large crowd of very intoxicated people walking through downtown Worcester on the way to the show.

I definitley understand what you're saying about a lot of new bands calling themselves hardcore when, in reality, they sound very little like what I knew to be hardcore 10 years ago. I don't know if you agree, but I think most of them sound a lot more like what I would call nu-metal or mallcore.

That is an excellent question / proposal and I second the motion. Since the band room is walking distance to the show, that's definitely the best spot to meet up. I know a bunch of people are already planning to go there. A large portion of those people aren't even from Worcester in the first place. They come from all over the Northeast in order to see some of their favorite shitty bands play at The Palladium

We all know what happens whenever ICP plays there. Heh... obnoxious kids running around downtown wearing clown make-up. It's funny when they wander toward the bus stop in front of City Hall... or even farther, into Main South. All of the ghetto people look at them like fresh meat ready to be thrown on the barbecue.

I doubt they make it that far. They would likely get to Kirsch Liquors, take a look around, and KNOW they're not in Kansas anymore. The "walk / don't walk" signs don't even work. How would they cross the street? That intersection is the city's means of partitioning off the ghetto from the rest of downtown. If this weren't true, they would repair the lights.

Yeah my father told me about that, it was during the 70's i think that they put it up and it wasn't taken down for a long time. I've never actually ever gone down Piedmont St before. My whole life growing up I was just told it was the worst street in all of Worcester so I still have yet to drive down it. I've driven down Piedmont St. during the day. It doesn't look as bad as I thought it would. None of the crackwhores are out during the day, so the street is pretty much deserted.

In my opinion, Oread St. is the most dumpy, scary-looking street in Worcester. For those who don't know, Oread St. the dirt road that comes off Main St. near the Dunkin Donuts and Pennywise.

Actually Oread St is down a little further... about halfway between the spot you're thinking of and the PIP shelter. My ex's mom used to live in a really really nice apartment on that street. Problem was, it was on that street and there's a crack infested rooming house a few buildings down. Piedmont St isn't as bad as its rep. Back in the day maybe it was. I think the sign someone was talking about actually said some nasty things about prostitution and STDs and things like that (as if there could be any nice things to say about them). The reason it was taken down was because it was way out of line and supported false or misleading information about disease and poverty and blah, blah, blah- activists like myself finally got our way. You don't want to get me started on this topic though. I'll go on a tangent.
Anyway, to make a point that's actually useful here, Beaver McD said: "My whole life growing up I was just told it (Piedmont St) was the worst street in all of Worcester". I would advise you NOT to walk down any of the streets that stretch from the corner of Main/Chandler/Madison and up as far as Moynihan's Pub after dark. I say this because I worked at the PIP for a few years and had to help patch up numerous people (mostly college freshman jocks) who got jumped / robbed / beaten because they were easy drunken targets. So yeah. Don't walk there. Unless you want to lose your wallet, shoes, cell phone, and possible spend the night bleeding in the gutter- or worse- in Med City!
