are these the bands you chose? i really dont think 12 Step Program belongs on that bill. not because they are stupid and put that dumbass comment in their cd, but because they arent a damn thing like us.

What is the dumbass comment in question?

our drummer tried out for their band like 2 years ago and ended up playing with us instead, so a few months ago or whatever they put in their new cd "a big fuck you to the drummer of Sacreligion". thats the gist of the comment. its not a big deal, it was just pointless. i could understand if we were like good friends with them, but i think we've spoken to the entire band once. it was just unnecessary. i asked them about it and they got all pissy and defensive saying that we need to learn to take a joke, which again would have been fine if we were close friends with them. overall it was just retarded.

i just didnt get why it was put in the cd almost 2 years after it happened. a "big thank you" to a good cause could have been put in place of that.

according to my calculations, considering all the shows that night, there will be 40 people at this show...and we'll bring 20-25 of them

the only way that your going to get 20-25 people to go is if you bring everyone we know for your birthday and supply them with free beer and cake.

well you can have that attitude and i'll go out and work my ass off to get people there like bands are supposed to

20-25?? think realistically. there will be 20-25 total, including the regulars. we could bring maybe 10.

not if we do what we're supposed to instead of sitting around and doing nothing wondering why nobody showed up

uh yeah, that would be with promotion. you fail to realize that AC is playing at Rox's, which is going to draw any that might have come out anyways.

even with promotion, if you assume low numbers, and high numbers show, then you will be pleasantly surprised.

but if no one shows, than you werent really expecting anything anyways.

not that many people care about anal cunt though, the only thing that's going to affect who we would draw is the fact that kultur is playing and most of their people would've come out to see us if they weren't playing in another town

if you assume low numbers, it means you didn't bother to try to get high numbers(im talking about getting all of our friends to come out and have a good time on top of who would come regularly and on top of promotion...if they decide they don't wanna show up for not only our cd release, but the fact that two of us have our birthdays that night and would rather stay home and do nothing/smoke pot...i will seriously never talk to any of those people again)

people will go see AC whether they like them or not. i could care less about AC but i would go see them. hell i'd even go to the club that tried to fuck us just to see them because its an experience i'm sure is worth witnessing. you may think i'm just breaking down hope, but i'm just stating an opposing view because i feel you are setting yourself up for disappointment.

perhaps you could enlighten me, i'm simply basing my judgment off of 3 years of playing for no one. i just assume that no one will be there. promotion or not. you can promote your ass off, but if there nothing that grabs those being promoted too, its going to be in vain. and no i'm not trying to get out of promoting.

well the way i figure, we got everyone we know right...then we could get all of kathryn's people to go(even if it's only for a short while)...we have ian's brother and all of his friends...we have the ghetto friday regulars

there are more we might be able to get but they are more of a stretch than the aforementioned groups

Ha ha, dude, I am so with you on this it's not even funny, you sound like the me in your band It's such an important part of promotion in the underground scene to make a list (at least in your head) of every person that might possibly go to the show, and then do everything you can to see that each of them does. In the end, if you end up grabbing 2/3 of those possibles, you've done really well for yourself.

But Tony is definitely right on low expectations being better for a band's mood and motivation. Still, nonetheless, I sometimes find myself raising expectations, just in the course of promoting in the way I explained above (because you already have all these numbers in your head and you'd LIKE to assume that most of the fans/friends/acquaintances who saying they're probably going aren't full of shit).

If only there were a middle ground that involved both getting high turnout and retaining low expectations; in otherwords, working on every person who might possibly come but still expecting absolutely nothing so you can be pleasantly surprised at the show.

When you play 15 shows a month all in the same area it's kindof difficult to expect anything larger than ......Well..... playing 15 shows a month in the same area.

And just for the mention.....
12 Step may have been playing the same poorly written song's for the last 9 years but they definitly bring in heads and make a show a good time. I consider them this generation's "Murphy's Law".
Oh well.
