How often do you break or totally wear down your picks?

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Aug 23,2006 3:07pm
Yellow Dunlops.
Every practice.
We go thru bags of em.

toggletoggle post by RichHorror  at Aug 23,2006 3:08pm
When I played bass I wouldn't wear them down, but I would snap them in half.

Green Dunlop Tortex .88's it takes a while for me to wear them out. I usually lose them before I wear it out anyways.

i dont break picks, i just wear them down. if your breaking picks when playing guitar, youre technique is screwed up.

toggletoggle post by RichHorror  at Aug 23,2006 3:35pm
Weird, that was the kind of pick I always used. And like I said, I'd snap 2-3 a show.

toggletoggle post by blue  at Aug 23,2006 3:39pm
rich, youre talking bass here and were talking guitar i think.

toggletoggle post by RichHorror  at Aug 23,2006 3:39pm
I just want to be loved. :(

your love is the wrong kind.

One day one of us will take office, and then we will finally be able to live among the surface-dwellers.

I use them on bass too. in fact I broke 5 bass strings in one show using that pic and it didn't break.

you broke 5 bass strings in one show? did you have a backup bass handy or did your bandmates just strangle you for breaking so many damn strings?

it all went down during the last riff of the last song so I just threw my bass at someone (I think it hit one of the kids in the automata) and just jumped into the pile up.

ok, well that's awesome. i was envisioning string changes after every song and many awkward silences.

fuck picks and their mother

toggletoggle post by niccolai   at Aug 23,2006 9:13pm
Dunlop jazz ii nylon.

take months for me to wear them out. I have a handfull of a dozen or so I've used at practice 2-3 times a week for over a year and they till work fine.

people who play light picks don't care about precision

toggletoggle post by Cadaveryne at Aug 23,2006 9:26pm edited Aug 23,2006 9:27pm
Where can I get these? 1.14 sharps? I use the non sharp ones and I wanna try these out.

people who use light picks have no finger control. With a thick pick you get more response from the string it's self (to the hand) and a better feel. If you know how to use that to your advantage IMO it can't be beat.

***anyone ever try out those stone picks or bronze (or random metal) picks?

I tried the bronze picks that looked like cymbals. They made the strings sound really bright to me for some reason.

.88 mm Nylon Dunlops. They take forever to wear down. I've been using them for a few years now and I've only had to replace them because I lose them like crazy. And I've only had a few wear out on me.

i'm with blue on this matter. purple tortex jazz stubby's. and the green ones in times of desperation. i haven't played anything else in i-can't-tell-you-how-long

what do you consider light?

toggletoggle post by GoatOfCatalyst at Aug 24,2006 12:54am
and i'll use them until they dull - but i do a good job of losing them first

white nylon dunlops. Anything that sounds like a baseball card in the spoke of bike rim.

just anything with flexibility. I think picks should be rigid so you have control. If you think about it, if the pick is flexing everytime you pick the attack is actually being delayed a millisecond, if you are playing fast then you're going to fall behind. Your picks aren't really that bad, but I can't use them after jumping up to 1.14.
