this show will be so awsome. I wish Katatonia was the headlining act as well, but either way this show will be awsome!!!
I hate selling against other bands, especially the DS guys, but since there are 30+ miles between us we shouldn't run into the issue of selling to the same crowd
we'll be fine. i'm sure both bands will sell a good amount of tickets. i'm happy shroud is on this show. when i approached joe n/c about booking daylight dies a few months ago, shroud was the only other band i insisted on having on the show with us and daylight dies. that didn't work out, but now we get to share the stage together with katatonia and daylight dies. this is going to rule.
I'm a cave man, I don't even have a paypal, nor do I own any kind of credit card. Is there any place I can buy this in person, like from the venue, or from a band member. or is paypal much easier than my neanderthal brain thinks it is.
where abouts, I live in Nashua, I know how to get to lowell, salem, lynn, nahant, rever, saugus, whichever is closer to you, and if none of them are I can always look up directions.

Don't forget about us! EULOGY XL is also confirmed for this show! We are huge Katatonia fans and are very excited to be supporting them on their first US tour. We are also excited to be playing with some great local bands: Dreaded Silence and Shroud of Bereavement. VERY EXCITING!!!

At least half of our setlist at this will be stuff that's not on our EP.
so what, we all get like a 7 minute set? Cause there is no fucking way that i am spending this much time selling tickets for a short set! dreaded and shroud should get a minimum of 30 minutes, because we were on this for a while, and we have put the most amount of time into it so far.
anyone know how long the sets are and the order of bands for this show? i haven't heard back from bernie yet.

Moonspell and Katatonia are amazing and extremely underated bands. I might have to check this out. Daylight Dies aint bad either - did a pretty good job opening for Emperor (although Doom metal at an extreme Black metal show does not always go over well.)
i was told by someone who tried to buy tickets online that it was sold out, with the exception of tickets available from bands, but i'm not totally sure if this means you can't get tickets at the door.
i can't wait either. i'm stressing out about it a bit because i want to sell the last of the tickets and i really want to know the band order and set times.

are there still tickets available to buy and get right away, as the show is in 2 days?
are there still tickets available to buy and get right away, as the show is in 2 days?
There most certainly are. Email us at dreadedsilence@665.org and one of us can get the tickets to you. If you live anywhere near Lexington/Arlington/Somerville I could probably drive to wherever you are.
Fuck, forgot to post this morning. I still don't know for sure if I'm going...now my brother's trying to get me to work the morning shift at the store.
anyone have a clue what the set times are like for this tonight? there have been several ideas thrown around as to what to do tonight and this might be what we have to do if i can motivate the rest of the crew to go out and do something
I know Frozen goes on first and they go on at 7pm sharp. I can't wait to see them. I know Moonspell goes on last and I will probably leave right after Katatonia. That is all I know.
I'm so fucking excited. I'll be at the car-bar before for sure. And probably on the drive up. And probably before I leave.
I've SEEN moonspell before. I care never to see them again. I suggest if you have any consideration for your sense of hearing you evacuate the building after Katatonia is done being awesome.

the best thing thus far is the icreased number of mass people here. Typically this would be a terrible thing, but in this case, they have been trained not to smoke at shows for 4 years so the smoke level isn't very high here... Yet... I'm sure everyone will drink that inhibition away very shortly.
another thing that is awesome is the sheer number of people in the back looking through CDs. best thing ever. bernie is totally cool with distros setting up and this has completely increased the traffic in the back of the club with people shopping through the distro(s) and then going on to the band's stuff. I really would love to see more shows with more distro set ups. just look at the increased number of people! I'm sure the band's sales will reflect it too.
frozen: I got in a couple minutes after they started. the front was already prett pact AND They sounded great for the opening band. Usually, bands here sound terrible when they get the first slot. I'm hoping that this is a sign of the proficiency of the sound guy and not just the talent of the musicians. And what talent. These guys mix together some cheesier metal characterists with kickass progressive metal music. I always want to catagories them, but it's hard to find a match. The closest would probably be nevermore, but with children of bodom's keyboards (oh, I'm sure some day pete will get one of those swiveling keyboard stands!). colin even sung a part to a song. They didn't end with the cover. Probably one of their smartest ideas. I mean, it's fun and all, but then you get pigeon-holed as the band that plays the van halen cover. Now that their newest CD is out, they have no excuse to always play "the cover".
Dreaded Silence: ken was beaming on stage. it took them a little while to set up on stage, but then they got started with ken's "scary" death metal voice. As far as I can remember, this is the first time I've seen them on a killer sound system. knowing the audience that was there, I think the accursed shirt was a little too much pandering to you crowd. C'mon 1/2 the people screaming in the front were either in that band or married to it! In the end, dreadken told about his lust for katatonia. A lust that he's hidden from all of us for all these years. Also, that it was 7 years ago today that DS was started.
eulogy xl: progressive nu metal. Does that make sense? Sort of the way that tool does things but not the same at all. they had samples that played in between their songs. I liked that part a lot. They had some parts that sounded like burst (swedish band), but then the singing was more godsmackish. I know that's not the correct correlation, but whatever. Some parts that couls be consided breakdowns (compared to the bands on this show), but nothin moshy. I'm going to hve to listen to the myspace cause the reviews of that were a lot different. They also had a catch phrase; get loud.
shroud of bereavement: holy cow. They had a huge crowd for them. I'm serious. It was really had to move around in the front. For those people wondering why markDIE looked so different, it was the shiney gold band on his finger. I know it's hard to realize this face when he's not in a suit, but mark is now taken til death does he part. Their set went off with out a hitch and with only 15 minutes of set up time. 3 songs, I think. Jen (most know her as the "original" singer) was with them. She sounded just as good as she used to. it was odd looking straight at kel at the bar while dan was on stage talking about jen.
daylight dies: I haven't seen these guys in 4 years. They sounded awesome. I mean, the local bands sounded good... But not as loud as these guys. there is usually a switch in sound when the headliners set on the stage and it definitely happened here. Very loud and very impressive. I think it's the backline/full cabs they had going on. Their new CD is so much better than the old CD. I remember the first CD sounding more 70-doom/stoner. Now, it's more like amon amarth doom. I wouldn't even say it was the same band! Like with a lot of bands, I feel sorry for the bands that have to play after them. Fortunately, most times when I think that, the next band does out do them. Let's see. At the end of their set, the sound guy told them that they only had 5 minutes left. When they relayed the fact that they could only play one more song, the crowd roared back "no! One more song!" and "play more!". That's my opinion too. They needed to play longer. much longer.
katatonia: after the first song it's pretty obvious that they stole their sound from dreaded silence. Not sure what is up with that. Seriously now, there is a complete difference between the newest CD and their older stuff. Everything just smacks of tool. I know people are going to jump on me for that, but geez.. So obvious. Anyhow, the rest of the set was better song selection-wise, but the sound sucked compared to daylight dies. It was just missing that mega charged, "in your face" sound that daylight had. I think they must have sound check playing softer stuff or something. Katatonia's dynamic range is a lot wider that daylight so this just missed it completely. If they had cranked everything, it would have been a hell of a lot better. they played 50 minutes but it seemed so short. yet another band that got yelled at to play more.
Ps: my katatonia pictures sucked. There were way too many people there rocking out for me to get around. I guess you can always tell the best attended bands at mark's cause my pictures of that band are always the worst.
I think the accursed shirt was a little too much pandering to you crowd. C'mon 1/2 the people screaming in the front were either in that band or married to it!
Ouch dude. That's pretty harsh. I only did it because Jon made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I wont elaborate beyond saying it involved him doing things which might be considered "unsavory".
Honestly though it seemed fair since they drove all the way up ther to see the show and to a certain degree helped us promote it. I might as well bee a walking billboard for them for a night. Plus the shirt was clean, an uncomming thing right now among my clothes since I don't have any quarters to wash anything.
SICK FUCKING SHOW, I'd like to thank all the bands we played with, especially Dreaded Silence and Daylight Dies, and I'd like to thank Katatonia for finally making it stateside, I've waited 10 years to see them, and I'm glad that the first time I did, we opened for them!
Amazing show. Dreaded Silence kicked ass. This was the best I've ever heard Shroud sound, including practices (and I've attended about 100 of those). Daylight Dies and Katatonia were amazing as well.

What can I say about this show?
Daylight Dies = FUCKING AMAZING. They nailed everything. I was in awe.
Katatonia was great. Too bad they had to go on after Daylight Dies. A decent mix of songs from LFDGD, Viva Emptiness, and the new disc.
Shroud sounded killer. It's amazing to hear them with a sound system worth its salt. Dan Clarke looks fucking WEIRD with short hair. haha
From what I heard of Frozen and Eulogy (we were undercutting the other bands with $10 tickets) XL, they sounded good, but really didn't fit on this show. Jesse from Daylight Dies said that he would have liked one or two local openers. The place still would have been packed. All I'm sayin'.
Our set, let's see...Mike's tubes died. Thank god we had his pod, so we could run it direct. I thought we played well, and the crowd gave us a great response (especially after heavier stuff). Can't really ask for more.
Thanks to everybody that came out, especially our New Bedford contingent as well as my pops. Not that he'll ever read this, but it was hilarious seeing him up on the barricade during Daylight Dies and Katatonia. And massive thanks as always to Aaron for the great pics.
OH! Ken had a fangirl moment with Jonas of Katatonia. I've never seen him as happy, ever. Rocketh on.
What an awesome show. I am thrilled that it was overrun by Massholes. (the smoke never got as bad as it was at Dismember, either)
Frozen was killer, I've been trying to see them for a long time and not surprisingly they got put on an hour earlier than they were supposed to. BUT this time...I anticipated something happening and showed up early. This did cut into my drinking in the parkinglot time. I like to make a staggering entrance, after all.
Dreaded Silence. Also killer. Ken looked like he might either start squealing like a schoolgirl or pass out cold at any moment. They naturally had some technical problems, as if the anxiety of opening for Katatonia and hoping your members arrived on time wasn't enough. They sounded pretty good, too. Whoever was doing sound that night should do it always. They got a great crowd response and there was nothing wrong with The Accursed shirt. You're just mad it wasn't a RTTP shirt, Aaron.
That XL band was awful. Just awful.
Shroud sounded great. I've seen them a dozen times and this is the first time I could hear everyone nice and clear. They more or less fit on the stage, too. I wasn't too into the singer, she reminds me of Snow White. I did notice (now that I could hear her) that the keyboard player has a beautiful voice, I wish she sang more. They did great, I'm happy for them.
Daylight Dies were awesome! I wasn't crazy over their first CD and I'd seen them before sometime. They were one of those "just OK" bands to me. I was going to play pool or something but they sucked me right in. They kicked ass. I'll have to check out their new stuff.
Katatonia. Fucking Katatonia. They should have played for 3 hours. I had two dudes behind me singing along to everything and it was awesome. The whole crowd was so happy to be there they forgot to be metal and angry. The band were outside while we were waiting an eternity for a friend's ride to show. George and Rachael ran over to have fanboy/girl moments, too.
I saw them 2 years ago and they were great. I havn't heard their new album though. Any way you slice it there is some really killer stuff on Wolfheart and Irreligious.

Under The Moonspell rules, after that I couldn't give a half a dump about any of it.
last night was the best night ever. i want to thank everyone who supported us in any way at the show, especially our former drummer chris for being the ultimate roadie for the night. i had so much fun. it was great to meet jonas from katatonia and jesse from daylight dies. finally getting to see my favorite band live made me the happiest person in the building. i can't wait to see them again in hartford next month.
frozen: caught some of their set and it sounded good. they had good stage presence and cool songs.
dreaded silence: i almost killed myself on stage when mike's head shit the bed, but luckily we got on track and only had to cut one song. the crowd was digging us and we played our best set ever. i wish we could play with katatonia at every show. that was the perfect crowd for us.
eulogy xl: i missed them because we were loading gear into the trailer. the reviews i heard about them weren't favorable.
shroud of bereavement: i missed part of their set, but caught a good chunk of it and they sounded better than ever. special thanks to dan robinson for helping us out last night.
daylight dies: they were amazing. i wish they could've played that show back in july that i was trying to set up with joe notcommon, but daylight dies was well worth the wait. they were the tightest and best sounding band of the night.
katatonia: i finally got to see my favorite band. they played so many great songs. it was disappointing not to hear anything from tonight's decision, but their set more than made up for it. seeing them play deadhouse was one of the greatest moments of my life. the rumors about me acting like a fangirl when i met jonas are true. what can i say? if it wasn't for his influence, my band would be completely different and not as good.
moonspell: i didn't watch them because i only like a couple songs by them. they looked silly onstage.
i've done it many times, but last night was extra special because it was the katatonia show.

Moonspell was great as usual! Katatonia was good too! They both had great setlists! I don't know DD's songs, but it was pretty headbangingly awesome! Unfortunately, didn't get there in time to see Frozen.
I wish I knew about the free admission to the stripclub the other time I was there for Stuck Mojo- instead, had to see endless parade of shitty openers (there were 8), including the revolting band 'crossbreed' which is quite possibly the most ridiculously shtty band i've ever seen.
Thanks to everyone who came out to the show. Also, thanks to the other great local bands we played with. We had an amazing time! I'm sorry some of you didn't like us or didn't think we fit in. I actually thought us and Frozen were the closest in style and sound to Katatonia than the rest of the bands. But I also felt that the other bands were a lot closer to Daylight Dies and Moonspell. So, all in all, it made for a perfect quartet of openers!

Please don't anyone take that last post the wrong way. I thought all the bands definitely had a Katatonia influence to their sound, especially Dreaded Silence. I just felt that Frozen and EXL had as much similiarity to them as everyone else and belonged on the bill. I thought all the openers were excellent last night.

did they do anything from Dance of December Souls

dude your band is nothing like any of the bands that played, because you play fucking nu-metal. you didn't try to justify why your band played with decapitated/krisiun, that was just plain wrong.

Look I didn't like the dude's band but he doesn't have to justify anything. You get offered a big show like that, obviously you're going to take it.
I'll give credit to Frozen and EXL for being good at what they do, neither of them are my cup of tea, but I can't bash them for trying.
I agree with Pam too, it dosen't matter of you're a pop band, you get offered a show like that, unless you're a complete moron, you're going to take it.
What a killer show! Fucking sold out??? That's amazing Especially for a NH show! All the bands were awesome. I agree with Pam and Mark as for the latter posts. Everyone gave a great effort, and for that we had a sick turnout! Thanks to everyone who got tickets and or merch through us, you guys are awesome! And thanks to Rev who as always did a great job! And I love the Myspace page he sent too. Hey rev, how do I get all the info and Pics copied onto my bulletin? I definitely want to send that shit out!
i didn't know about the party, but i had to drive anthony home anyway, plus get gear back home. after stressing out all day, leaving all my energy onstage, and singing along to katatonia, i was spent. it was a great night.
also, i too, agree that eulogy xl doesn't have to justify being on any show they are offered. what local band wouldn't jump at the chance to play big shows? my band wouldn't necessarily fit on the decapitated bill either, but had we been offered a show with them, we'd probably take it.
I had the longest drive ever, there would be no partying for me. I can't sleep anywhere that isn't my house, either.
If you want to repost the RTTP bulletin, select everything in it and right click and hit "view selection source". Copy and paste that into a new bulletin. That's how I do it. I have Firefox, not sure what IE says.
Was I the only one who thought Katatonia sucked? reminded me of nu metal, I bought their most recent cd to see if they were any good, and if I wasn't so frugle I would have tossed it out the window.
big hails to S.O.B and Moonspell, daylight dies was great too, didn't see the other bands

You really can't judge Katatonia by their new CD alone. They have tons of killer stuff and they evolve a little with every album. You'd probably enjoy some of the older stuff and I bet you could appreciate the new album if you traced the evolution to it. It's definitely not nu-metal, it's closer to Tool than anything.
And I think almost everyone in here who is saying anything bad about Moonspell is judging them almost purely on their gimmick and new material. They are a very unique band and have released some awesome stuff.
dan: I wish more people would do that.
here's what you do, just hit "reply" to the message I sent you.
then copy the stuff in the text area to a new bulletin and it should work great.
It's just that I seem to be the only person in the world who distinguishes between the phrases "They suck" and "I don't like them". Everyone else seems to use them interchangably, so I always end up arguing with people only to realize that they are talking about personal preference which isn't something that can be argued about. This is yet another reason why I'm slightly misanthropic.
I don't think they're very talented. Most bands can write 1, maybe 2 good albums and then blow for a bunch more. Singer is fucking awful, too.
Everything concerning music is relative. I'd stop taking offense to "they suck" because the person saying it could genuinely think they are piss-poor musicians for their own reasons. Saying it any way is relative.
I like how some guy yelled out " don't go back to sweden. stay here" to kattonia, i might not like the band, but i am almost positive they are italian.
I got to the place a little after Shroud took the stage - they did a fucking awesome show, and sounded great. Daylight Dies put on a great show as well, though I'm not much of a fan of theirs. Watched Katatonia play a few songs, then decided to split, since I had to be at work at 5:00 in the morning next day.
i might go so i can see celtic frost with frasier crane on vocals.

Just for the record:
1. We got added to the Decapitated show at the last minute as an opener because a friend of one of the booking agents at Mark's was having a going away party at Mark's that night and we were one of his favorite bands. We didn't try to get on this show. We were kind of pushed onto it. I honestly had never heard of any of the bands we played with that night.
2. I don't know if we are necessarily nu-metal? Our roots are actually in electronica and industrial and it's only recently that we've become more guitar-heavy. Kind of in the the same way that Porcupine Tree has evolved to what they are today.
It's only the past few years I've gotten into Metal groups like Opeth, Katatonia, Amorphis and Novembre. Before that is was NIN, Massive Attack, and the Prodigy and our music was more electronic than metal.
I dunno if that makes us Nu-metal or not but I never thought so? I think we have our own sound.

I'll agree with that. unfortunately the sound you guys had wasn't what the majority of this board is fond of. I didn't think you guys were bad, your drummer has some really good chops, and the electronica samples were pretty cool. Your music isn't really my thing, but I can't knock you for being good at what you do.
everyone has an opinion, and everyone thinks theirs is right.
personally, if someone hates a band, don't go see them, like I wasn't into Moonspell, and after 3 songs, I went to look at titties, if someone didn't like EXL of Frozen, they could have gone to look at tits too...
I'm glad you folks who don't like Moonspell left after Katatonia. It was nice to see them without all the little kids about. I guess you youngins who like all that nu-metal, emo-metal stuff can't hang. It's really not your fault, MTV tells you to like nu-metal, and you do what MTV says.
I enjoy Moonspell, I do not feel they went downhill at all, they just went and did something different. Good for them. Fernando is a great lyricist and a very intelligent guy all around. His voice is goofy, but I mean...that's goth rock. And they are as much goth rock (ala Sisters of Mercy) as they are metal. They are also subtle, which I like. I find a lot on their records that I didn't hear the first few spins.
Most of their albums are significantly better than Under the Moonspell, which is like four songs and some intros (and just as goofy if not more goofy than their later material).
Live, they are hit or miss. I've seen them a few times with a small audience who was into them and they really fed off that and were great. Then I've seen them other times, at gigs where they didn't belong, with a thousand screaming ADD kids who just wanted to mosh. Obviously not their scene, so I don't know why they go out of their way to get on every tour they can. Katatonia should have headlined this tour, they are more popular here.
yeah, my dad was there too. they both made it onto rttp in a picture.
also, i love all that awesome nu-metal stuff like dio, motorhead, and iron maiden. queensryche too, no wait, they're metalcore, right?
post by wolfheart at Oct 24,2006 11:27am
Ha Ha Ha... yeah, Motorhead, Dio, and Iron Maiden kick ass- I love them! But that's the point, you kids poke fun at Moonspell, but are they any more goofy than those bands have been in the past? I mean, didn't Motorhead put out a few bad albums? I completely love Maiden, but take a look at the Blaise years. come on! Moonspell tried a few different things (it's called creativity) and they are better now because of it. The new album is excellent, and if you don't like them without hearing their new stuff, it's your loss.
i haven't heard the new moonspell album. i've heard songs from most of their albums. i like a couple here and there from older albums, but can't find anything to like on newer albums. it just doesn't do it for me.
Heh. He should have just let me stick up for Moonspell, I made a much better case without needing to insult other peoples' tastes.
Wolfheart is one of their best, but Butterfly Effect will always be my favorite. Great songs (even though it's mostly non-metal), great lyrics, great atmosphere.

The newer records are actually pretty good. The Antidote is fascinating. The thing is, they are deceptively basic, but when you listen on they become extremely catchy. I think you of all people would actually dig them.
Cool, the last two "The Antidote" and "Memorial" are quite good. "Darkness and Hope" had a few good tunes, and for the older stuff, "Butterfly Effect", "Irreligious" and "Wolfheart" were all fantastic. "Sin/Pecado" was meh. "Under the Moonspell" was cool but it was only an EP.
