I like 'em because they're fun, but they're not about to change the world with a few guitar arpeggios.

When they can actually write songs better than "Pull the Plug" or "Body Bag" then they'll rule. But as of today, pretty much all the Polish death metal bands > Necrophagist.

i think Necrophagist have written some pretty incredible songs.... anything off the second record IMO has really strong songwriting

I liked the first album considerably more, the second just went in one ear and out the other, but it's been awhile, so I'll listen again.

there are alot of great musical ideas on 'Onset..' but the way those ideas are presented isnt nearly as thought out and fluid as on 'Epitaph.'

Probably because on Epitaph he actually had an entire band? Isn't Onset just one guy?

yeah, but mohammed has always been the main songwriter.

yeah Necro are very unique in a sea of tech-death bands that all sound like they're trying to be Suffo. They are elite. Up there with Anata, SoP... and classics like Cynic, Atheist and Human-Sound of Perseverance era Death.

i say they're too wanky....they're very talented, but when death metal bands get too technical like that, it kinda ruins the whole atmosphere of the music. to me, death metal should help bring out the darkest and most impure feelings and thoughts of the listener, not so they can sit and jerk off over how many notes the guitar player can pull out of his ass in between blastbeats. death metal isn't about being a guitar hero, it's about bringing out the hate for every person who ever fucked you over or pissed you off in any way, and it should be a boot in the face to anyone who jumps from bandwagon to bandwagon in a desperate attempt to be number one in the "in crowd"



sorry for the long rant, it's probably the jim beam and coke in my belly talking.

genre's are constricting and the last post is a good example of that.
