dragonforce doesn't totally suck, but they're not that great either. they're fun to listen to sometimes but i'm more of a death/black metal person so they don't really do much for me.
old bal sagoth is cool, but they're nothing to get a hard-on about either.

I was watching a video of them earlier last night and it was awesome. The two guitar players were trading off solo's. And one of them started chugging a beer during the other guys solo. Common now! That's awesome

Dragonforce is the powermetal equivelent of "blackmetal's" Cradle of Filth (no, I'm not saying that CoF is BM, but all the mallcore kids think they are)

they're a total novelty act. sure Herman can shred like a motherfucker, but he's gotta remove the digitech whammy from his FX loop (like Kirk Hammett with his Wah pedal)

ive been into Dragonforce since Valley of the Damned (which I still like the best out of all the albums) and I was really surprised to see that metalcore kids all picked up on them... what the fuck is up with that?

i dont agree with that. they only really blew up with their third album. How are they a novelty act? They were playing the same style before 60% of KsE fans thought they were cool.

I don't hate dragonforce, I just don't like them nearly as much as the earlier power metal bands (i.e. running wild, gamma ray, blind guardian, stratovarius) even hammerfall falls short of the "take me serious" factor (though I like hammerfall better then dragonforce by FAR)

i agree. but i think that has to do with the way they are perceived, not where they themselves are coming from musically. theyre not my favorite powermetal band either. That honor goes to BfG.

i think they are all cosmetic. i mean i honestly think those outlandish solos are well pumped up in the studio. live they get sloppy. i like them yet on cd not live. helloween did it better and they were more controlled. these guys are just overthetop and pushing it too much. those solos are nothing special. playing with the hands this way that way, all fashion. jet li's cousin should get into martial arts!

hammerfall creeps me out... they all look like fucking weirdos and i really dont understand their music.

this band is HORRIBLE live. they care more about how they act on stage rather than their instruments. i mean sure the cd sounds awesome but when i saw them i was sooooooo disapointed. i mean did they really play guitar on the cd? they are a bunch of drunk idiots on stage falling over playing wrong notes, sloppy as can be solos that are out of key. they mine as well just have a cd blaring live so that they can run around and pretend to play and act like fools.
