ok, so their was a lot of drama crap in the other thread so I've decided to start another thread. I will say that in terms of contacting people about a show, this is the single most "bases covered" show I've been too. When I came in, the infamous Leigh Rush shook my hand and said that goatwhore had talk to her.

now, chris (muscle city) had been talking a lot about the changes they were making at this place. I think he fell off the Earth, but they made a bunch of chnages to the place. The stage is a lot more open in the front now. The speakers are stepped forward and moved to the side (where security used to stand). They also have more house speakers facing forward. Put it this way, SYL's sound check a lot sounded like they were just playing a CD.

the only odd this is that when ever I stepped anywhere, it would be a different level from where I was previously standing. only by an inch mind you, but I would get that split second of falling.

shows over. hearding home. for a person's second show set, that went amazingly well. it's sort of unnatural how well it went. the attendance was awesome too. I wound have said that whom ever claimed that SYL's ozzfest publicity did it, but the majority of the people seemed to be there for goatwhore. Maine is the most cicular show place ever. they have a 2 year period judging from that crowd, maine is starved for shows again.

yup, worth the sober drive back. it's probably the best i've heard syl. goatwhore sounded great....though halfway through the set it sounded like one of his mics got knocked or something (overpowered on one side during db beats). rev confirm this? i was stage right.

i wasnt down with the second band on the bill. i heard the guitarist put the show together, but, after only playing 3 times prior, seemed rushed. probably should have put a few more shows under their belt then opened up for a national. most people i talked to agreed. vertigod had two stand in singers and one song was improv'd. that's all i got for now.

I didn't see a mic get knocked over.

It's called a period. Look into it, you backwoods retard.

he doesn't have time for that. he's got studs to bedazzle things with.

I have full reviews of each band written up, but they are on my phone and I need to get them off there when I get home around 5pm.

First off your unappreciated comment is senseless in the fact that most people with down syndrome do not have the ability to process a thought let alone hop on the rttp messageboard. Secondly) I have a huge cock so I don't need periods those are for girls when they wanna feed me some scrumptious blood out of thier cunt!

Enough with the run-on sentences, you fuckin' hayseed. Learn how to spell properly or I'll kick your sister in the chin, thereby castrating you.

two sided season: I only saw these guys once, a year ago at the muddy river. They actually had a bunch of people there listening to them. Most of whom were in freshly purchased ozzfest shirts. The new-shirt smell of this venues must be a merchandiser's wet dream. One kid even started coreographed 2-stepping to their music. Not 2-step by any means, but whatever. The last time I saw them, I though they had 70's rock vocals sprinkled through out. Eh, that could have been another band. Their music was more core than before. their set started off late cause the lights would flickering cutting power to guitar stage left. This ended their set early, but then they ran up and did another song.

Psyren: this was their 3rd show ever. it was also their bassplayer's first show with them. I really don't know what it should have sounded like cause the guitar was non-existent for the majority of their set. I think it was a chord and demons. It was finally worked out by the end of their set. From what the metalguy was doing, I think he had a DI from his guitar that could have been the problem. The drummer had some ridickerous cymbal tower going on. It looked like a xmas tree in whoville. the girl had a decent scream, but with out the guitar melodies coming through, it sounded out of key and out of place during a lot of the non-screaming parts. My suggest (and I hate to say this) is for them to get a keyboard player. this would fill in a lot of the thin parts and could play off the vocals too keep them in check. But it might work with the guitar in place.

Oh, and thus far, their are two other guys with professional digital cameras (both with no flash). One looks like a canon 30D (possible a 5D) with the logo blacked out, but on closer inspection, the logo seat is way too small. I will guess it was a minolta/konica/sony. Also a sigma lens... I would venture to guess it's a 24-70 f/2.8, but I'm not sure (the outer element is a little too bulbous and the hood is wrong) and the other body is a older nikon pro-body.. A D1_ body with a 50mm on it (with a hood which makes me wonder if it's prone to flaring).

vertigod: the real singer is in a 1/2 way house for being drunk or something. The two singers from the band end of everthing filled in. they switched off 1/2 way through the set.i liked the first dude's vocals better. Anyhow, this meant no deuling mics. people started moving during their set. It was a full on [term=bro-mosh] next to two shirtless dudes hugging in a pit, the bro-mosh is the next funniest thing. Watching guys charge at each other like bulls is just too funny.

ruin: damn, these guys were awesome. I saw the testament shirt an thought it a touch queer at this show. Well, these guys fucking killed. They sounded like Death and the best part is that the crowd was very full, people slammed, and headbanged for their entire set. I have a feeling they had the largest crowd of the night. Revocation needs to book a show with these dudes in a serious way. add them to the trashy death colletive that gets called into force for thrashterpiece showcases.

goatwhore: this was hands down the best goatwhore set I've ever seen. They fit this venue like it was made for them. ben was right up in everyone's face, standing on the barricade, conducting the crowd as it transitioned from slamming to headbanging and then into an almost circle type pit. I love how they mix goregrind basslines which get the crusty kids into their music and then blow open the new orleans crypts, and play slow funeral dirge music that has a unmistakable Louisiana feel to it.

the most shocking occurrence of the night was when someone actually yelled that metallica st anger was good. He seemed quite pissed about it. I guess he missed the episode where james hatfield went back in time and destroyed anything good that the band ever released.

strapping young lad: Devin went on about there being nothing cool about ozzfest. “We sell booze and sneakers”. Holgan is a monster on those drums. Well, a lot of times he’s nothing special and then he breaks away from whatever simple things he’s doning and charges on hitting that cymbal thinger. So fast. So good. I would list out the songs they played, but I sort of deleted the blurry picture that you could sort of see the set list on.

Hey Rev...! Here's a link to the pictures that my friend Michael took of us (the photographer without the flash).

http://www.harkavy.com/shoebox/psyren/index.htm

Michael Harkavy rules!! He's a fetish/pinup photographer mostly (which is how I know him) but has photographed Genitorturers and Gwar in the past, and is just getting back into shooting bands again.

there were 2 dudes with out flash shooting. I'm guessing he was the one with the other (older) nikon. the other camera was a newer consumer camera/lens while his was a pro-camera with a lens favored by camera purists and "older" film people (since it was the perfect everything for film).

I'm on my phone right now so I can't check them out now. when I get back from "the road" I will try to remember to check them out.

Why don't they just get Roy Addams to play keys and get it the fuck over with. They've already got two of their members, may as well add a third. This way they can be a 13 winters part 2 and Abbath can have something to fill his spare time in with again.

That wouldn't happen. There was guitar cord and other tech difficulties... no need for keys. I thought the Rev gave a good review for everyone for what he witnessed.

i never heard of Michael Harkavy before checking out your link.

most of what i shoot is without flash myself and i also dabble in fetish/pinup photos, i'm looking forward to my next trip to NYC so that I can shoot the lovely Aprella again.

Definitely RUIN had the most people at the SYL show, RUIN tee shirts were everywhere. These guys are phenomenal. The crowd couldn't get enough. Anywhere RUIN plays, I'll be there. Keep it Metal.
