I was trying to do that free iPod thing, but that all failed miserably.
so I really need an iPod for my work (photo viewing and testing analog lines at my radio station).

so I'm now damn determined to get an iPod ASAP.
I would like to get a 3-year service plan on the item too cause they break so much.
best buy $399 (I have $150 in gift cards) + $59 3 service plan
compUSA $399 + $59 for a 2-year apple service plan
circuit city $384 + service plan
amazon $379 + service plan?

B&H photo video has them for $369 + $49 for a mack warrenty

I'm buying one when I get my school money, I can no longer live without one I've decided...let me know what you settle on.

I don't think I could ever fill a 60g ipod. I loaded my old lady's 30g yesterday and she still has like 20+ g's left.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jun 26,2006 11:59am
I have 120GB of mp3s last time I looked.

toggletoggle post by pam nli at Jun 26,2006 12:00pm
I could fill it. Happily.

toggletoggle post by DreamingInExile   at Jun 26,2006 12:09pm
yeah, last I checked I had better then 100GB of music

I need to get a new HDD for my iPod though, because the hard drive in it locked up on me (2 years straight of 100+ hours a week of usage = apparently too much use for a 1.8" drive) I also had mine set up to work as an external drive (so I could bring stuff to/from work easily)

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if I install a larger capacity drive in my iPod if it will recognize the larger capacity since it runs on firmware not software? if it does, I'll foot he bill for a 60GB 1.8" drive insted of just replacing it with another 20GB drive...

this is the "cheapest" so far
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller...&is=REG&Q=&O=productlist&sku=406456

I decided that I "need" one. I'm constantly needing a device that sends out a certain frequency and known level so I can test and adjust connectors at my radio station. it's either buy a $100 piece of test gear or this. I get the added benis of playing my own MP3s and having the ability to play the newest mp3s from bands on RTTP easily (plus, I can put it on my taxes as an expense for my engineering contract work). plus, showing photos without getting my laptop out.
the problem is that if I get it done at B&H and it breaks, I need to mail it. is $458 vs $418 worth the hassle? it's like $10 to mail it and the average iPod breaks how often?

DIE: that's why I want a 3-year warrenty and why you should have gotten one.

this may help you

I would have gotten one, but I wasn't the one that bought it (it was a gift) and I was repeatedly told: "I'll go get the warranty for you, since you work nowhere near the mall" (was purchased at the apple store)

so, as you can see, said warranty was never purchased for me, so I'll just go about performing neurosurgery

I think I just convinced myself to buy the iPod from BB on the way to WUNH tonight. I'm going to need it from 8-9pm anyhow. I have to fix a analog line.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jun 26,2006 4:01pm
I guess I'm stopping by bestbuy on the way to the station and picking this up, pricematching it to circuitcity. this will be awesome cause I really really really need it for 3 repairs that I'm finishing tonight.

toggletoggle post by DrinkHardThrashHard  at Jun 26,2006 4:05pm
Man, what did you get your taxes back today? $300 of CDs and a new Ipod?

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jun 26,2006 4:17pm
no, my radio station is paying for the CDs and a bunch of crap I have to buy today. the budget ends on july 1st so I'm spending like mad on the current budget.

toggletoggle post by anonymous at Jun 26,2006 4:30pm
with the ipod you need to install linux on it to get songs off of it and that voids the warrenty

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Jun 26,2006 4:33pm
Id havta say, buy the cheapest one....

toggletoggle post by Egon at Jun 26,2006 4:33pm
If you can wait, I think the true Video iPods will be out by the Christmas Season.

Also, you don't need linux to get songs off the iPod. You can do it straight with windows using although they MP3s do not appear in any specific order or there are a handful of programs that will do it. PodUtil is what I use.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jun 26,2006 6:24pm
I'm waiting in line to buy it.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?
oops, dan caps.

I'm copying tons of mp3s from my server to my external 60GB drive so I can synch it... it takes a long time to copy 20GB!

MM: 27,000 when I looked last (a year ago). when I get CDs at the station, I mp3 them and then add them. I do this to be able to preview the CDs while leaving the physical CD at my radio station.

The Video iPod is all speculation at this point. Rumors have it as a full 16:9 ratio video player possibly the size of the entire iPod with a virtual touchscreen click wheel.
At the very least it will have a larger harddrive for a little more money.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jun 27,2006 3:28pm
1.8" drives are only 100gb now (you can only buy up to 80s).
I don't think they are putting that head to toe technology in these.

I had thought about the touch screen front thing. I kind of doubt they will do that. The iPod I just got has a 2.5" screen. ALL the new things out there have a 3" screen on it. ipods are 2.4 wide.. I don't think they can put a 3" screen on. I just did the math and they can't get a 3" 16:9 on the front of this.. it's liek 10% too small.

toggletoggle post by anonymous at Jun 28,2006 6:58pm
does anyone know how to hook an ipod to multiple computers without loosing all your songs?

touch screen? within a week the screen is beat up so thats a good but horrible idea.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jun 28,2006 9:10pm
yeah, that's what my phone is like.
it's got a touch screen.

if you want to hook your iPod to mulitple computers, use the podutil software.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jun 28,2006 9:19pm
oh and I loaded 20GB worth of music on it.
listening in my car, I skip a lot of music...
basically all the tracks that I've listened to in full are the same tracks that I have on 20 super scratched CDrs sitting in my back seat.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jun 28,2006 11:38pm
one thing that stinks is my lappy is now sort of tied to this external drive that has all the music on it. hm...

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jun 28,2006 11:57pm
damn, I'm trying to put id tags on mp3s that I downloaded/encoded back in 99!

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jun 29,2006 1:06am
I hope when you change a id tag it will update the ipod

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jun 29,2006 8:46am
I'm being an ass, walking around listening to belfegor.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jun 29,2006 8:49am
the onedakoza came o and it was like one of those "time to fight" scenens from a movie accept I was just in staples.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jun 29,2006 10:00am
I forgot how much it rules to drive listening to sodom.
dudes, remember the fallen!

toggletoggle post by Egon at Jun 29,2006 4:35pm
You should be also be able to connect the iPod to multiple computers as long as you remove the auto sync. I only have problems trying to use a Mac formatted on Windows and vice-versa.

Rev:
I use Tag&Rename to do batches of MP3s. You can also connect to Amazon and download album art. Easy if you have full albums that you want to change. Oh yeah, screw you and your smart math.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jun 29,2006 6:45pm
it's hard to read that on my touch scren phone.
