the Dark Tower series are my fave books of all time.
when i finished #7 i was seriously depressed. I'd been reading them for 15 years, and then the world moved on...
when you're done with 7, read "Everything's Eventual" (if you haven't already). There's a Dark Tower short story called "The Little Sisters of Eluria." It's about Roland, just before he picks up Walters trail in "the Gunslinger."
I stumbled upon this one right after i finished the series and was stoked. One last ride...

I'm on Song of Susannah right now (milking it)........and don't want it to end. I have started reading it when the 1st book came out (in what, 88-89). Its been a long ride. I have read Everything's Eventual, isn't that the short story where Roland meets the love of his life (nurses and vampires too)?
|
|
yeah, that's the one. i started reading them when "Drawing of the Three" came out. This series has been a part of my life for so long. I remember while i was reading "Wizard and Glass" a few years ago, i got to the part where Roland and Walter meet again, and was blown away because the last time those two exchanged words, i was 15 years old, reading while in the dentist's waiting room. It kinda fucked with my head a little...

HAHA.....leave it to Stephen King to fuck with your head. He took so long writing these books, then these 2 come out back to back. I'm wondering if he decided to get the series done before he died. I mean he isn't looking to good lately. |
|
remember when he got hit by that van? as horrible as it sounds, my first thought was "oh no, i'll never know how the Dark Tower ends!"
Hurry up and read #7. I've needed someone to talk about it with...and i'm afraid if i keep talking about it i might spoil it (which would warrant murder)
It will blow your mind and leave you drained...up and down, up and down...you will not be disappointed. |

Isn't he only in his 50s or 60s? I hope he doesn't die soon, I just got into him! I read Different Seasons about a month and a half ago and I loved it. A week ago I bought Salem's Lot and The Gunslinger, so I can't wait to get started on those. |

Yeah, I think that accident took some years off his life. I'm sure many people thought the same thing when that happened.
I will try to hurry, but I don't want it to end. AND NO spoiling!!!
I have pictures of Stephen King taken at Shooters in Providence. Back in 93 him and some other writers (Amy Tan, Matt Groening from Simpsons fame and others) formed a band called The Rock Bottom Remainders (it was for Project Literacy or something). Stephen was a guitarist. They played dumb cover tunes, but it was a kick to see it and take pictures of them on stage.

good call. i didn't think of that.^^^
er...Retzam, you might wanna read "The Eyes of the Dragon" and "The Stand" first too. at least BEFORE you start "Dark Tower IV: Wizard and Glass."
You'll understand why someday...

Also, Insomnia references The Tower and Hearts in Atlantis references The Lowriders (men in yellow) and The Regulators by Richard Bachman (AKA King) references of course The Regulators.......damn, they seem to all intertwine somehow!!!! |
