my mother is a nutrionist/dietician so i have all the facts, surveys, pie charts, graphs, whatever the hell anyone needs.

pretty much the general facts are that a consistent vegetarian diet is the best for humans, especially for the digestive system, if followed correctly. fish and poultry are often considered part of a vegetarian diet.

veganism is one of the worst for the human body (other than just eating all the shitty junk foods and no healthy stuff of course) since vegans have to obtain key vitamins, minerals, proteins, and all that jazz, from sources that usually have negative side effects from long term use. example: too much soy will cause erectile dysfunction later on in life. SAVE THE BONERS! but, soy does reduce the risk of heart cancer.

having meat in our diet is not necessarily bad or good, it all really depends on how it fits into the diet. someone who incorporates a large amount of red meat into their diet is at more risk for certain diseases and conditions (like being fat, har har) that aren't very desirable. if the food pyramid is followed, we get everything we need, the right amount of taste, and no extra unneeded fat from meat and dairy.

i'd also like to note that most vegans will always argue that the human digestive system isn't fit to handle animal or animal bi-products. this is false. DAIRY and only some rare meats can cause digestive problems for humans. BUT, that's why we pastuerize/homogenize dairy products and most restaurants don't serve meat cooked below 'medium well.'

i've been vegan for almost 10 years now. i think i'm pretty healthy looking. my doctor says i'm healthy. you have to take vitamins ( i take 1 multi a day) but you should do that no matter what your diet is.

for the record...i don't believe that killing and eating an animal is wrong. in fact i think it's natural. but i do have a problem with the way many animals are treated when they are alive, even on traditional farms, so i choose to not be a part of the system.

I am eating a big hunk of moose at the moment.....Go me!!!

i believe some of that, but i have sharp fucking front teeth and jagged rear molars that are perfect for steak, and i have a very difficult time with vegetables, but meat i have no problem digesting. thats just me but i dont think i'm the only one. we are actually more omnivores.

That's a damn good question. I never even thought of that.

Same question about what animals are considered carnivores because cats are usually considered carnivores but they eat catnip and if you've ever shared a house with cats you know they'll eat just about any flowers you put out.

I'm leaning toward there being no true carnivores or herbivores, that animals are capable of adapting and specializing to whatever food source is more available. And while yeah I get annoyed when some ALF douche is running their mouth about how a cheeseburger I'll eat once a month is going to kill me and causes unimagineable suffering I'm also sort of relieved that we're lucky enough to have a choice and are able to reject certain foods outright without having to worry about starving to death. Something tells me the Meat is murder arguement doesn't come up much in Sub-Saharan Africa.
