"...Anthrax, one of a handful of progenitors of thrash metal that first burst onto the scene 20 years ago with the classic disc, “Spreading the Disease.”

i thought they first burst onto the scene with "fistful of metal"

"Fistful of Metal" was with Neil Turbin, not Joey Belladonna. "Spreading the Disease" was really the first record Anthrax did that captured their classic sound and reached a mass audience. Thus, calling it the break out record is totally 100 percent fair. "Fistful of Metal" is vaguely interesting historically, but if there hadn't been "Spreading the Disease" it would be completely forgotten today.

fistful was a pioneering thrash album. it was a pure thrash metal assault with the unforgettable raw fury of neil turbin. metallica was speed metal and anthrax was thrash metal with neil turbin. you have it backwards, there would never have been speading the disease if it werent for fistful of metal. its funny that neil turbin would leave the band when he wrote the best songs on that album armed and dangerous and gung ho. it was inevitable that anthrax was becoming more well known as time went on. but i would much rather have seen a reunion with a screaming ripping tearing neil turbin and a pure old school thrash album rather than a whiney vibrato joey belladonna one.
