just curious,

I'm probably going to purchase a 2006 Audi A4 Quattro but after doing EXTENSIVE research on the model was curious if anyone out there owns one or has any insight on the company. A large purchase for me so I wanna make sure its the right choice. I've always loved Audi's and the 2006 model looks sleek and has gotten a lot of praise with the engine. I want this thing to last me till 2016!!!! if that's possible.

Another car I was looking at was the 2005 Acura TSX but...

I am really not a fan of Mitsubishi cars at all. I mean its a cool deal but its not the car I want. I'd love to get a 06 BMW 325i but in my eyes its not worth the money at all. Its more for the name and I think their quality went down a bit.

BMWs are super shitty cars now.
every person I know that gets one, keeps if for a few years, looses tons of money and then gets rid of it or crashes it. in those few years, they spend about $3K a year on mantainence. sucky cars.

are you serious?

I hear from a few people that many people LEASE BMWs rather than buy. The only BMW's worth purchasing are the freakin ones that are $60k and up! But yeah a few people have told me the 3 series has gone down in quality. You are paying for the NAME. Just like Rolex watches.

That's the thing about the Audi. Maintenence is expensive if anything goes. It kinda worries me a bit...

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Sep 29,2005 12:21pm
everyone I know that has a newer bmw hates it and get rid of it.
those ones are in the $40-50K range.
they often mention $1000 oil changes.

You'd have to be stupid to pay $1000 for an oil change. I always do my own.

toggletoggle post by MadMac at Sep 29,2005 12:36pm
its because the engine is so "fine tuned" it needs extra TLC. That's why places like Jiffy Lube and Valvoline "quick stop oil changes" refuse to change oil for high end cars (BMW & Mercedes). They have been sued a many times i guess.

Why are cars so damn expensive!

their bmw ealer tsucked ass then... my friend had a an 03 328 and the dealer did oil changes for free and stuff like the clutch and brakes were even covered under warranty.

buying an audi? what kind?

... get the RS6 ;)

i think i'm gonna get a new car

toggletoggle post by litacore   at Sep 29,2005 1:41pm
I think I can squeeze some more miles outta my old Buick

toggletoggle post by largefreakatzero at Sep 29,2005 1:48pm
I just picked up a 2005 Toyota Tundra yesterday. Double-cab. And, while the mileage is not that great, it's exactly the same as the little S10 I traded in.

get one of those hybrid cars. i would if i could afford it. my truck is getting old and i've spent a shitload on repairs in the past year. the thing sucks on gas and i do alot of driving now that i've moved an hour away from where my band practices. i wish i had a small car with good gas mileage.

i think i said what you just said word for word yesterday but man... it's japanese.

The problem with small Hybrid cars is that they can't fit too many guitar cabs, drums, etc. And they don't tow things. And they get stuck in the snow. Otherwise, I would get one.

toggletoggle post by MadMac at Sep 29,2005 2:22pm
um RS6!? I don't make that much money my friend. In my dreams maybe. I did test drive the 2006 S4 but again its too much money. They wanted $55,000 for the thing. If I had the money sure but no way. The thing drove so nice though. Fast car man, fast!

sorry if this topic is way off for RTTP but just thought I'd post.

I'm going for the 2006 A4 Quattro. No leather seats and no fancy rims. Just the wood trim and the stereo package. I might put the deposit down this weekend. But I gotta make sure this is the one, this is a ton of money.

toggletoggle post by KeithMutiny  at Sep 29,2005 2:53pm
a4 is a nice car, but if you really wanted to save, just but a VW, its the same exact thing without the emblem

toggletoggle post by MadMac at Sep 29,2005 3:37pm
HMMMMM, u know someone told me to look into the 2006 Passat. I have not but might do that tonight. But i heard VW's have issues with their transmission. Thoughts?

toggletoggle post by KeithMutiny  at Sep 29,2005 3:42pm
vw and audi = same company, same car, same transmissions

different price, different options

toggletoggle post by MadMac at Sep 29,2005 3:53pm edited Sep 29,2005 3:56pm
ahhhh did not know that. I thought Porsche and VW worked together. Didn't realize Audi was also apart of this family.

I have just always heard negative things about VW. Maybe I should just stick to the Audi or maybe take another look at the Acura TSX

toggletoggle post by KeithMutiny  at Sep 29,2005 3:58pm
the acura tsx is the same car as a honda accord, also for your info.

i prefer the audi over the vw personally as well, i just wasnt sure, money wise, what you were looking for.

toggletoggle post by MadMac at Sep 29,2005 4:00pm
ahhhhhh, haha.

so you think the Accord is very similar to the TSX?? Interesting.

toggletoggle post by KeithMutiny  at Sep 29,2005 4:04pm
same vehicle, the tsx is equipped with better all around parts, as well a higher performing engine, much more detailed interior, and higher quality suspension and braking.

auto restoration and performance is my hobby,
its funny, almost every car a company puts out has a similar model by a sub division.

toggletoggle post by KeithMutiny  at Sep 29,2005 4:05pm
oh wait, i may be mistaking the tsx and the acura CL, my mistake.

toggletoggle post by MadMac at Sep 29,2005 4:12pm
in your opinion KeithMutiny what is the best car for the dollar? i'm curious to hear your opinion.

toggletoggle post by KeithMutiny  at Sep 29,2005 4:14pm
out of any car? or out of those 2?

toggletoggle post by KeithMutiny  at Sep 29,2005 4:16pm
i would personally like to get my hands on an 00-03 audi A4 1.8T...

but im broke, and i have a 93 nissan 300zx Twin Turbo collecting dust in my garage right now as it is.

toggletoggle post by KeithMutiny  at Sep 29,2005 4:18pm
but, if i were id go audi over acura

toggletoggle post by MadMac at Sep 29,2005 4:20pm
OK that's cool.

but yeah what about ANY car out there. what is the best bang for your buck?

toggletoggle post by KeithMutiny  at Sep 29,2005 4:24pm
as sad as it is, and again, not that i would do it...

Hundai exccel... (or however ya spell it)

crazy gas mileage, under 8k new (usually around 6.5k WITH options), 10yr/100,000mile bumper to bumper warrenty.

...but you'd need to sacrifice your pride hahaha

im kinda eyeing the new Dodge Hemi-Charger myself lately, who knows

Volkswagen Group owns Audi, SEAT, Skoda, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Bugatti, and Lamborghini.

Porche owns 20% of Volkswagen.

Volkswagens are good...in my opinion they are the best they've ever been since the early 80's.

side note: Volkswagen Group's trade symbol is VAG.

toggletoggle post by KeithMutiny  at Sep 29,2005 4:33pm
and bentley was only just attained in 03 from BMW, as part of a deal originally made in the early 80's i believe.

toggletoggle post by BestialOnslaught  at Sep 29,2005 5:21pm
I drive a 94 Quattro wagon(100CS) handed down from my father... Still running pretty damn well for 11 years down the line, though he didn't put too much mileage on it (it's only just above 90k right now).

a4's are pissah, i used to detail them every other week. clever cars, they put a matted rub in the wheel wells to prevent excessive spray, which is awesome when you drive behind one in a rain storm.

Get the tech manuals from Audi and maintain it yourself.

actually i think it's that bentley and rolls were basically the same company. so now VW owns them both, but somehow, BMW owns the name Rolls Royce. so after '03 BMW made them stop producing cars with that name.

i test drove the 06 Passat and it was a nice ride. the sales / scam guy didn't have anything to say about VW's past reputation. Electrical system usually is made poorly and i heard transmission has issues. but these were the 2000-2003 models i hear. the guy only knew how to hype up the Passat and try to get me to put a deposit down. i hate buying a car.

toggletoggle post by badsneakers at Oct 2,2005 3:52pm
VW has had a lot of electrical problems. I have a few friends who were very unhappy with there VW.
Audi shares the same platform as VW, the exterior sheet metal is almost identical but interior and drive train is much better.

I had an 06 A8 at work last week, what a fantastic car!

What's the price tag on this A6 Quattro? I once saw someone test driving one, in an industrial park I worked in.... (I think it was an A6),The guy was doing at least 65mph around a building in the center of the park. The thing was fully drifting and it looked nasty, the guy was lovin it. That's how you test drive a car like that, he pushed it to its limit. The tires were junk when he was done.

toggletoggle post by wade at Oct 2,2005 9:03pm
i know the A8 L W12 is over $100K. "Two V6s stitched together"... insane. rated at like 450 ponies at the wheels!

A6 3.2 starts at $45K

A6 4.2 starts at $54K

The dealership i went to had one A8 W12 in the lot. In order to test drive it they wanted to run a credit check first and proof of insurance and run a CLUE report. what the hell is up with that? So I didn't test drive it because I really wasn't going to buy it. I think they only want serious buyers only test driving the W12.

I did test drive the A6 for kicks and it did have a bit of a punch to it when you stepped on the gas!!! The A4 is all I really want and need. Its about $33k out the door. That's a ton of dough for me but I figure it will be a car that will last me at least 10yrs+

Actually got a fully loaded with Navi 2006 VW Passat 3.6 4Motion AWD (3.6L 6cyl 6A). Picking her up tonight. I'm broke. I could have bought a 2006 BMW 325i loaded but really felt I'm getting a lot more with the VW. The VW salescrook tried to get me to do a lease but I do not believe in leasing. This car has to last me for 15 years! Probably not but.

Got to test drive a $108,000 2006 VW Phaeton W12 AWD (6.0L 12cyl 5A). The salescrook kept telling me to lease that. I wanted to jump in the car and hit him with it. Kept talking about how it has some special kind of paint.

Anyway if anyone cared. sorry.

i'd be happy with a 1.8T Jetta right now. you DEFINITELY made the right choice between the Passat and the BMW. I drove my friend's 20th anniversary GTI (1.8T) yesterday. It's too small for me and my sons but it's perfect performance-wise, and you can't beat that blow-off noise!

toggletoggle post by MadMac at Nov 1,2005 2:36pm
BMW is of course nice and all but its not worth the money. The Passat is full size vs the BMW 3 series being medium. Plus insurance was a bit more on the BMW AND it was standard (not auto) transmission. The Passat is auto.

The Jetta was equally as nice as I really liked the way it looks and its a cool car and a little bit cheaper (fully loaded) but I wanted to invest in a full size car since its going to be my only car for a loooong time.

toggletoggle post by Philonymous at Nov 1,2005 3:44pm
kickass bro
I love VW's
I had a 99 Jetta and now I drive a 01 GTi VR6 fully loaded, is so nice, I love it
both 5 speed, I dont really like auto, I like the control 5 speed gives me and Im alot more used to it anyways

but yea nice choice, the new Passats are real nice
