Mike Myers: [dutifully reads canned plea for charity on teleprompter]

Kanye: [abandons teleprompter] "I hate the way they portray us in the media. You see a black family and they say we are looting, you see a white family and they say they are looking for food. And, you know, its been five days because most of the people ARE black. And even for me to complain, I would be a hypocrite because I would turn away from the TV because it's too hard to watch. I've even been shopping before even giving a donation, so now I'm calling my business manager right to see what is the biggest amount I can give. And just to imagine, if I was down there and those are my people down there. If there is anybody out there that wants to do anything that we can help about the way America is set up the help the poor, the black people, the less well off as slow as possible. Red cross is doing as much as they can. We already realize a lot of the people that could help are at war right now, fighting another way. And now they've given them permission to go down and shoot us.

Mike Myers: [stands frozen in horror, decides to pretend nothing happened and stick with the teleprompter]

Kanye: GEORGE BUSH DOES NOT CARE ABOUT BLACK PEOPLE.

Mike Myers: [descends into complete panic]

1) we wouldn't be having this conversation.
2) Kanye West would not give a fuck about what was happening.

Now THERE is a racist for you. I loathe George Bush with a passion hinging on insanity, but I seriously doubt he's guilty of not sending enough aid on time because of the skin color of the survivors...I think that is stretching it, the fact is there are/were survivors of all 'races' down there suffering, and I do think Kanye's comments came off as impulsive, bitter and childish.

Skin color is simply a pigment shown to the naked eye by the sun. When the hell will we all get over this? I'm looking forward to the day I can be called a person and not just a 'white person'.

I find it disgusting that congress pulled together an emergency session on a sunday night which was a holiday to vote in order to keep a feeding tube in terry schivo. and now after the greatest catastrophe in american history, it took them 4 days after the disaster hit to pull together.
When Bill Clinton left office, we had the largest surplus in American history of 5.6 Trillion dollars. When Bush came in, he provided tax cuts which annihilated the surplus (most of it went to his rich cronie friends) leaving us with the largest defiect in American history.
It's a story that never changes, the right fucks everything up, and the left cleans up. That's why the left is known for taxes. The Republican party is about money. With oil drillers and god on their side, you can see where they fit in. Roughly every anguish from Repulicans is developed from money, taxes, work work work work, no new taxes!

and for the record, I'd love to have a beer or go fishing with Bush, seems like a friendly guy n shit. but as a leader he's simply horrible. the right coulda picked a better canidate who can at least read.

toggletoggle post by MASlayer at Sep 4,2005 12:08pm
FACT: Once a policy is voted on, it takes 8 - 12 yrs before the full effects of that policy is felt. That surplus during the Clinton era was all from Reagan and Bush Sr. signing and writing in bills. Don't like how things are now? Blame Clinton, especially when he cut more of the US defense budget than any other president...wish we had that now...and if the right screws it all up, why is the right leading the way in presidencies for the past 32 years? BECAUSE THE RIGHT IS THE WAY TO GO...THE LEFT ARE ALL ABOUT TAXES AND CUTS FOR IMPORTANT PROGRAMS. THEY ARE WOLVE'S IN SHEEP'S CLOTHING...DO NOT BE FOOLED...

toggletoggle post by BornSoVile   at Sep 4,2005 12:13pm
Yeah, everybody always tells me that but I've never believed it cause everyone who says it doesn't even read the paper or attempt to research it, let alone know who the 3rd President of the USA was. When was this study concluded? What were some of the bills passed that enabled this? I've had at least a dozen people tell me what you just did but nobody provides sufficent information. I find it hard to believe that anytime you do something in this country, people won't know or feel it for 8-12 years.

I think that the color of the skin and are of where they are also includes their social standing. Most of these people are black and EXTREMELY lower class. POOR! If these were wealthy upper class whites, i'm sure better precautions would have been taken. NO ONE can deny that Bush favors UPPER CLASS people, and most of those people happen to be white. So what? Our entire society favors the rich. That's called capitalism. It's not a new thing...it's enterprise. And it favors rich 'black' people (who are actually brown) as well as rich 'white' people (who are a light shade of pink, or tan, NONE OF THIS MAKES ANY SENSE!). Have you seen Bush himself claim either in writing or on videotape, that he favors the UPPER CLASS, or is that just an inference you are drawing because you do not like him for other things he has done (I don't like him myself, but I don't think this is a case where the blame should rest on his shoulders).

As for the other comment about us 'crying', we are not crying about anything. We are discussing a heated issue, on a forum full of such topics.
As you said, Kanye West's comment being 'unnecessary' was the entire point of my previous posts.

because corporate america has more money to fund their candidates and push their agendas than I do
because of Jesus
because of guns
because of "the Greatest Generation"
because of the delusional mentality that being a good american consists of patriotism, not dissent.
because many of the poor and middle class have such a negative and bleak outlook for the future/themselves, that they would rather not care.
because it's easier to be a follower than a questioner.

it seems that after a few terms with republicans in the white house, enough people get fed up and a democrat pulls off a victory. and please, nobody respond with "then why did Bush defeated Gore?" we'll need a new thread. then again, we're all off the subject here.

But the senate under Clinton was dominated by Republicans who voted down nearly every bill he supported while the senate under Reagan and Bush were controlled by Democrats. So isn't it the current recession really Newt Gingrich's fault?

About Clinton's massive military cuts, what happened shortly before Clinton took office? What massive threat from another world power had dissapeared a year earlier? So why spend billions of dollars prepping for a large scale ground war against the defunct USSR when the military could be reorganized to deal with the smaller scale threat of terrorism which became the main security threat to America after the WTC attack a month after Clinton took office? Last I checked Clinton's military did a damn good job in Kosovo and Afghanistan. It was only after the current administration's military budget took effect that we saw troops going into combat in tin can humvees without flak jackets.

Like I said earlier in another thread....

Its called the culture of poverty. No one any race is born to be rapists thieves or killers, it's a pretty well known fact that poverty breeds crime. Regardless of race, whether you are white, black, yellow or red.

Now are there are more african americans in poverty stricken areas than other races? Yes. But why is that? Because while us whites have been here ever since the pilgrims and the african americans have just been here since we brought them here as slaves, for hundreds of years we held an entire race back from acheiving what whites have just based on the color of their skin. And up until about 50 years ago, african americans never had the same chance as the whites or most any other minority for that matter. So yes, plenty of african americans have acheived the same or greater success than upper class white men, but because of how those who came before us held down an entire race of people, unfortunetly not all of the race has been able to find the same success.

In those poverty stricken areas, whites commit the same crimes, whites do just as bad or worse than any other minority, crime is color blind in these areas. There are just fewer whites in those areas because for generations we had all the oppertunity to succeed, a chance we robbed other races of.

People are people, money or lack there of breeds crime. That is all.

To say that racism doesnt still exist is stupid.

We were driven nearly to the brink of extinction and saw poverty that urban black familly's wouldn't understand...

and still my dad hasn't stolen a plasma TV. To date my father and grandfather have yet to shoot at a medical helicopter. They have not dropped thier children off at the steps of a hospital so they could run away from a flood without having the burden of a child on them.

#1 Anonymous...I can see why you wouldn't want to reveal yourself becuase, while well spoken, very misleading in your rhetoric...how? I'll show you...Newt Fingrich? The House speaker? Are you kidding?? Presidents have this thing called Veto power and then it goes back and forth until it dies or it passes.

#2 Military cuts because of a defunct USSR? You're talking about a President who was HANDED Osama after the first World Trade attack and DID NOTHING...had he not cut and aggressively sought after the cells and perpetrators THEN we may not have had a 9/11. Cuts do NOTHING but hurt our military and while you think it may be "small scale" against terrorists, it never should be or have been...it should have been full blown using every resource available.
#3 Clinton's army did do great in Kosovo and Mogodishu...but funny how those actions were never questions yet Iraq was yet Iraq posed a much more serious threat than either of those "altercations"...such liberal hypocrisy!

Up until say.. 60 years ago My grandfathers were having land taken from them, thier language was not allowed to be taught in thier native land. before that there were tax limits on wealth they could have, the women were raped, the men were killed.

I'm sure your dad hasn't, but I'm also sure plenty of people that share your ethnicity have commited the same crimes as blacks, whites, puerto ricans, or anyone else for that matter that exists in a poor economic structure.

Believing that any group of people are born to be criminals or because of the color of their skin that they are more likely to be criminals is pure idiocy and ignorance.

Seriously, what makes more sense... Saying "oh, these people are black... they must be criminals!" or realising people regardless of color or race born into neighborhoods with nothing are the ones likely to commit crime?

Are you kidding?? Presidents have this thing called Veto power and then it goes back and forth until it dies or it passes.

#2 Military cuts because of a defunct USSR? anonymous was me, as stated directly below the post.

Clinton did nothing about terrorism?

Tell that to these people
http://www.emergency.com/alrt1197.htm
http://www.usdoj.gov/opa/pr/Pre_96/February95/78.txt.html
http://www.cnn.com/US/9804/03/wtc.bombing/

Those actions were never questions? Are you saying those military actions were never questioned? Did you forget when the house and senate republicans were going batshit about how Kosovo was an unwarranted war, just a distraction from the Monica Lewinsky scandal even when confronted with the fact that genocide was going on(which suddenly became the cause for the war in Iraq after wmd's were not found) in Kosovo? What about when Sean Hannity got on his show and blathered on about how the troops in Kosovo didn't have bullets and Clinton's military was completely inept? Support our troops indeed.

wheere were all the "die ins" in Clinton's term? The protests? The bashing on TV programs (aside from LYING to a grand jury). And I don't car WHAT those web sites say...he was HANDED Osama Bin Laden and thought he wasn't enough of a "threat" to bring him to justice...what do you to that, when a president is handed a known terrorist leader and does nothing? And BTW...and wmd...let me put it ot you this way...if someone killed your mom and 7 people pointed to one person you'd believe that person was guilty of the crime...same with Iraq. FBI, CIA, Russia, France, and Interpol ALL confirmed they were there. Why shouldn't Bush go on their word that Iraq had them? Besides it's not like Saddam didn't...he USED them on his own people!! Just becuase he didn't have them when we came in doesn't mean he didn't move them into Syria, who are just as trecherous and deceitful. They're out there...in whose hands now is the question

Yes, Clinton did veto quite a few laws Newt passed, but they also passed an amazing amount of legislation together. I was just looking over my history book from school, it was one of the most productive times for the gov, within the past 50 years.

Oh what's that? The Taliban was just lying to save it's own ass and wouldn't have held up their end of the bargain? What do you think that Sudanese huckster was doing when he "gave" Clinton bin Laden on a silver platter?

Clinton didn't think bin Laden was a threat?
That's news to me considering he authorized covert actions against bin Laden and told the CIA to make bin Laden a priority target

http://www.guardian.co.uk/waronterror/story/0,1361,556906,00.html

And look if someone killed my mom and 7 people pointed to the guy who did it I would go after the guy who did it (bin Laden) and not his fucking neighbor(Saddam).

Dude, Clinton just spome words and did little actions or Osama would have been ours by now...ACTIONS NOT WORDS...so he signed a bill, he didn't even enforce. Big deal...at least Bush went for it. And you also seemed to have misunderstood the mom comment...if all those poeple pointed to one guy and you believed it and they were wrong, how accountable are you when, to the BEST of your knowledge, the info was right? Same with Bush...

I wonder if the six terrorists behind the WTC bombing serving 240 year sentences in federal prison think that Clinton just said some words and did little against terrorism. Or perhaps we could ask everyone who was aressted for their connection to the foiled millenium bombing plot. http://www.globalsecurity.org/security/ops/millenium-plot.htm

Well, you can't ask 6 of them because thanks to cooperation between Jordan and the CIA they were executed in Jordanian custody. Though I'm sure they'll provide you with a wonderful treatise on Clinton's ineffectiveness at combating global terrorism if you can reach them in the afterlife.

And since you're discounting Clinton's successes as president because the framework was laid by Reagan and Bush can we blame every terrorist issue Clinton dealt with on Reagan and Bush? Before you go and blame Clinton for not capturing bin Ladan how about we discuss Reagan and Bush's funding of Osama bin Laden and their role in creating the Taliban and Al-Qaeda during the 80's?

The whole mom story is flawed because it isn't the same situation. It would be like someone killing my mom, 7 people pointing at him, and after I made a half hearted attempt at capturing bin Laden I could just shift the blame to some kid I didn't like in high school and blow up his house.

Sorry bob but you're twisting it to suit your purpose in the debate...while a great quality, you're missing the issues to make Bush look bad and CLinton good...again! 240 yrs in prison? like I want my tax dollars supporting them...and if it was such good measure why did it need ratification to favor the death penalty in terrorists situations. Life sentences? I don't think so...DEATH PENALTY NO EXCEPTIONS. And to think you can try to lay Clinton's faults on Reagan and Bush? You know as well as I do treaties and made and broken and just because the one with Osama went bad doesn't mean it was the first or last and also at the time didn't pose terrorist actions AT THAT POINT IN TIME against the US. On the mom thing...let me rephrase it again becasue you're losing the translation...if someone killed your mom and all your closest friends pointed to one suspect and you laid your wrath on the word of your 7 trusted friends just to be told later you were wrong, it was someone else is the SAME as Bsh's info on wmd in Iraq...besides we've done more good for that country in 1 year than in several decades without our involvment

toggletoggle post by BornSoVile   at Sep 5,2005 5:53pm
conservatives will throw everything they got at us, they'll blame the phases of the moon on Clinton pratically! Do I have to state the FACT that the Regan administration sold most of those WMDs to Iran/Iraq, yeah I do-we need to see through the conservative media to get the answers.

toggletoggle post by BobNOMAAMRooney nli at Sep 5,2005 6:15pm
So you'd rather have your tax dollars supporting thousands of enemy combatants and a war of choice in Iraq that did nothing to curb terrorism than actually fighting terrorism?

Your mom analogy is flawed because the actual situation was more like my mom being killed and the 7 people being coerced into telling me that a particular person I didn't like had killed her, although it wouldn't have mattered because I had already made up my mind that I wanted to kill him and I just had to go through some formalities to make it look like murder was my last option.

And we haven't done more good for Iraq in the past year than it was able to do for itself without our involvement. Before the first Gulf War Iraq was one of the most prosperous nations in the middle east, a secular society which upheld women's rights and was socially progressive compared to its neighbors. While Saddam was a horrible dictator he was better than the present alternative of civil war and a Taliban-esque theocracy.
