I'm transfering about 300+ r2rs to digital files.

this is absolutely amazing.
I have ones starting from 1972 to 1998
so much WUNH lore archived.

Yup, you transfer those tapes. All the companies that make the tape are gone, and it's becoming rare and expensive.

It makes me sad, seeing analog recording slowly dying out.

bahaha our first demo was done on a reel to rell, all spliced up tape that sounded like shit to record over... bit it was fun..

Sounded better than the album

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 22,2005 9:19pm
damn it... I had a 10Khz oscillator test on when I recorded that first reel.
doing it over again.
this is freaking awesome.
12/1980 and they are talking about a brand new police LP.
after this one, I'm putting on one from 1972

someone grumpy?

i did all that stuff when i went to school for broadcasting, i have to admit, i do like editing on on those machines. With the wax marker, and a razor blade and clear tape, its like an art form to work that shit. I have about 7 hours worth of material in my basement on 7" reels.

well, I'm doing some recording right now on that 1972 tape...
it's so delicate that I can't transfer it from one spool to the other...
it's going all over the floor and I'm going to have to re-wind it by hand...

I have an old clogged up 1/4" reel to reel in my closet. Used a few 2" decks at school and in recording sessions. It's sad to see them dwindle, but hopefully they'll never be gone completely.

Track to analog, mixdown in digital, then go home with an all around well done record, I think that's what you meant.
