maybe some one or a group of someones should compile a compilation cd to be distrubuted at metal fest or other shows?

or just for promotion for unsigned new england metal bands?

toggletoggle post by Aegathis  at Feb 23,2005 10:39pm
good idea

toggletoggle post by KeithMutiny  at Feb 23,2005 10:41pm
dude, ill buy a stack of cds and burn that shit, thats a great idea.

toggletoggle post by Hooker  at Feb 23,2005 10:42pm
sweet. let me do the artwork for it.

toggletoggle post by Josh_hates_you  at Feb 23,2005 10:43pm
im sure if people looked around we could find a great deal on cdr's i got 100 for $28.00 with a $20 rebate = 8 cents per disc.

most bands already have recording from which they could donate a song. and a few other bands could probably record a new song for it. there are enough people on this board who can record in one way shape form or another.

toggletoggle post by KeithMutiny  at Feb 23,2005 10:48pm
i can get cdrs fuckin dirt cheap

toggletoggle post by Abbath at Feb 23,2005 11:03pm
what would fucking rule

toggletoggle post by Hooker  at Feb 23,2005 11:05pm
so each band throws down a few bucks for the packaging? like a cheap cardboard sleeve? that'd be a cool thing to do.

toggletoggle post by Josh_hates_you  at Feb 23,2005 11:19pm
um i have no idea. im not an authority on the subject but i would say any bands that want to be involved should discuss the matter of how high quality they want to go with it.

even $10 x 20 bands would be alot of home pressed cds and covers.

my friend has one of those cd burners at his work that does 50 discs in 30 minutes with one load. he would most likely burn these if i asked him too.

toggletoggle post by Josh_hates_you  at Feb 24,2005 9:25am
promotion at metal fest anyone?

toggletoggle post by succubus  at Feb 24,2005 9:48am
if you use the "rttp" letters on the CD, don't forget..the rev will have to be paid extra bling$$$

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Feb 24,2005 9:58am
josh hates you... I know this might sound gay.. but... well there's no other way to say this... you love me.

I'm for this 100%. if someone wants to orgonize it, this would rock! It makes me happy that someone out there (aka the bands and stuff who use this site) would be down with doing something like this themselves.

For my part, I would hand out cds at the places that I go (along with metalfest) and I could make a reporitory for people to upload wave tracks for this comp. Though I doubt with all the awesome bands on here that one song from everyone wouldn't fill more than one cd.
I mean, abhorred... goratory... raov... hcn... dissector.. porphyria.. raising publick... cryptic warning... shroud (one song would be half the CD!)... the nightmare continues...
I could go on and on.

toggletoggle post by Josh_hates_you  at Feb 24,2005 10:32am edited Feb 24,2005 10:33am
YES!! now this is going in the right direction.

looking into diskmakers and superdups and their 1000 cd packages with a sleeve go for about $1000. they would be good quality but we would need 25 bands at $40 a piece

or buy assloads of cdrs and having tons of people burning them would be alot cheaper and just paying for the packaging maybe?

im sure people like joenc and anne would know more about good deals in duplication.

toggletoggle post by AUTOPSY_666   at Feb 24,2005 10:35am
... ANOXIA... TERATISM... LEUKORRHEA... ASCENDANCY...

I suggest we use full packaging in jewel cases (about 20 cents each), that way they aren't as "disposable".

All we have to do is have booklets and traycards printed (doesn't Tim of PORPHYRIA work for a print shop and Nate of LEUKORRHEA?) I will assemble them all and shrink wrap them all here.

Let's do this!

toggletoggle post by Boots at Feb 24,2005 10:37am
i'm not in a band or anything "yet" but this sounds like a really good idea to get these local bands out there and be heard. good thinking josh.
remember: tortured nowegian stigmata

toggletoggle post by AUTOPSY_666   at Feb 24,2005 10:37am
These could actually be a collectors item if you guys wanna do 1000, I will hand number them.

And fuck Discmakers, DGR Inc. is the best and cheapest in the US.

toggletoggle post by WhyamIandasshole   at Feb 24,2005 10:39am
This is a good idea. You can get CD's cheaper the more you get printed but there are other manufacturing companys outside of the US that do it for cheaper than the 1000 for 1000.

toggletoggle post by Josh_hates_you  at Feb 24,2005 10:42am
there will be 2000 people at metal fest alone.

maybe 1000 "good ones" for distibution over the next year and like 2 or 3 hundred of those to the metal fest

and like another 2 or 300 "home made copies" for the fest too? seriously the metal fest will be a huge way to gain access to local "metal" fans

remember last year there where like 300 extra users for the next few weeks after the fest looking at pics? what if they had a cd to go with it all?

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Feb 24,2005 10:46am
average banner ads get 3.5K-5K views per day
after hellfest last year (when the server couldn't keep up) 8 banner ads were getting 12K view per day each.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Feb 24,2005 10:48am
I'm looking into ways to make RttP run smoothly in the aftermath of nehmf this year... I'm optimizing everything, updating to the latest code (mysql 3.23 to 4.19, php 5.02 to 5.03), and I'm going to remove a bunch of things for the fest week.

toggletoggle post by Boots at Feb 24,2005 10:48am
i don't understand japanese but i will assume that a lot of people visited this site after the fests last year.

toggletoggle post by timma at Feb 24,2005 11:33am
this is definately a kick ass idea. not only would it promote the bands on the CD, but RttP itself. and aaron could never turn down some shameless self promotion now could he? I couldn't.
I'm not in a band, and can't do much for the CD but I'd be more than happy to distribute if need be. keep the ball rolling!!

toggletoggle post by nate   at Feb 24,2005 11:47am
has anyone done some serious looking into this yet? if not let me know and I will work on it, I know someone who does CD pressing and can give a great deal.

with my band i used to make 2 song samplers and hand em out wether it did us any good or not i have no clue

toggletoggle post by kok way too cool and nli at Feb 24,2005 11:59am
ya we handed a bunch out and, somehow some guy from Italy got ahold of one, and emailed us....so even if 1 guy gets it, that wouldnt b4 its worth it, to me.
I'd pitch 20 bucks into this idea.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Feb 24,2005 12:08pm
I'm thinking that one track from each band on here would mean that 2 discs would be needed...

toggletoggle post by Josh_hates_you  at Feb 24,2005 12:08pm
nate - i been looking into it and so far new england cd has had the lowest price.

$1000 for 1000 in jewel cases 5 color print on cds and inserts.

a bunch of other places are about $1000 for just the little sleeves. if you can get a better deal that would be awesome.

i can take all the individual tracks and normalize them to one level for the cd to be pressed. ghetto mastering if you will. or maybe someone can do it better.

there needs to be bands willing to be on it so far there are a few bands that expressed interest and 3x that many people not in bands interested.

maybe 20 bands x 50 bucks = $1000 and 1000 cds

each band gets: a song on the cd. band name, song name, etc. on the back cover. band info/contact info on the inside. 20 copies of the compilation do do as you please.

every band gets 20 copies that is 600 left over. maybe like 100 to the reverend to dispense.

and the rest to be given away by "street teams" at the metal fest?

i am obviously just throwing ideas into the wind here.

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Feb 24,2005 12:11pm
dreaded silence would like to contribute a song

toggletoggle post by Josh_hates_you  at Feb 24,2005 12:13pm
50 bucks may seem high but if every band signs up then we are talking 2 cds and even more money to dup/package. the $50 might help limit the whole thing so it can fit on one cd.

again just throwing out ideas.

Visionaries of the Macabre were the Lost Disciple compilations.

All we need to do is design the booklet and traycard and have them printed.

If we were doing it DIY, I could set up 4 or 5 burners to burn at one time.
I think I have 6 burners total.. but I could only put 5 into one machine to burn simultaneously.

granted "press" a cd would be much cooler... especially if some live-from-rttp tracks were on it.

I can gave them away at the store, then I'm going to Minneapolis Mayhem, MD Fest, and on tour with Impaled, send them to labels too.
I can get wholesale prices for CDr, jewel cases and tray card.
My only request is to have Nefarious on it, none of these guys have access to a computer and I feel like I'm part of the band, they're my best friends. They'll be on this site all the time if they did have computer access.
Maybe all the labels from this site could chip in and get real CDs done?

toggletoggle post by Josh_hates_you  at Feb 24,2005 3:34pm
most likely they cannot be brought inside randomly. people like aaron and carina may be able to get them in for press type shit but whatever.

it better to hand them out outside the show. that way the palladium cant say shit. the sidewalks are lined with people. plus people giving them away should only give them to people who are actualy interested(teenagers in CC shirts) and talk to the people you give them too. if some random douche hands me a cd odds are i'll give it a listen and if it sticks out i might look into it. if it sucks it goes out the window, but if the guy who gave me the cd was like "hey check this out i play guitar in whatever band on this comp if you like (fill in the blank) you might like it. we're from wherever call us about playing a show sometime contact info is in the cd cover" i might give the cd an extra listen.

plus we are not offering over saturated polished run of the mills corporate shit. local metal. not a victory sampler.

new england is wicked pissed might be an appropriate title.

I will hopefully have tshirts by then. but I'm not selling merch at the palladium since they take like 20%. which means I'd be loosing 20% on each hoodie.

toggletoggle post by Hooker  at Feb 24,2005 3:40pm
Anyone else thinking about artwork? I'd totally love to do the layout and if anyone wants to collaborate, that'd be awesome too.

toggletoggle post by Anthony at Feb 24,2005 3:42pm
Just read this thread. This is an awesome idea!!

CW definitely wants in and would definitely like to help out somehow.

my two cents.. u never a cover thats gonna be awesome.... thats gonna get people interested....

metal fest weekend i come home with bags and pockets full of stuff i get for free.... if it doesnt catch my attention im less likely to listen to it. i also agree with autopsy i believe was the one who said it that u should get jewel cases... it makes a big difference between whether someone holds onto it or if it ends up on teh floor...

and lastly for now... u cant bring cds into the palladium... sooooo unless someone got a booth to hand em out at ...or u did it outside... u wont be able to bring them into the building

toggletoggle post by Hooker  at Feb 24,2005 3:48pm
Does she only have one? Like a conjoined tit?

toggletoggle post by dirtycrayon at Feb 24,2005 3:51pm
it'd be cool if it was 3 tits like the chick from total recall...

toggletoggle post by succubus  at Feb 24,2005 3:53pm
you sayin myne aren't cool??? huh? huh?

i'll have you know myne have been through hell and back and are large and perky enough to look fake!

toggletoggle post by tbone_r  at Feb 24,2005 3:53pm
i think by adding some hardcore bands you may get some hardcore kids to start listening to metal.

colin of arabia, shoot to kill, cut throat, righteous jams etc...

if you hand these cd's out at metalfest, 1/2 of the kids will be hardcore and may just take it because it's free, then throw it out because there's no hardcore on it. but if you have hxc and metal, maybe they'll listen to some of the metal along w/ the hxc.

toggletoggle post by armageddonday   at Feb 24,2005 3:55pm
New England Is Wicked Pissed is a good title for it, I like it.

Forget about selling merch at the metal fest, they charged $300 for half a table the year Dark Funeral played, so it's probably $800 for a full one now.

Start a new threat to see what bands are interested, what they want to contribute or can.
Get some quotes on CDrs and real CDs, jewel cases and tray cards.
Find hookups for printing.
Find sponsors (RTTP, DefyUnLearn, Armageddon's in, and I figure Not Common would be in too..Joe is in Philly right now)

Hooker, the Manowar style cover is fine by me as long as you put swords, blood, skulls and fire in there.

as carina said there needs to be an official signup thread for interested bands. and a serious $$ amount figured out.

how many copies? (seems like at least 1000)
who can get the best price for a "professional" looking product?
how long are all the songs to be entered?
can they be fit to 2 discs?
who will master/normalize it?
do bands even want to pay or as some one suggested some bands do a paid version and everyone else do an indy DIY comp?

toggletoggle post by succubus  at Feb 24,2005 3:58pm
i figured hardcore bands would be on it..since some were listed and others played the radio show...and this site has both (myne has even more..but let's not start maknig fun of me now for marilyn manson)

toggletoggle post by armageddonday   at Feb 24,2005 3:58pm
THere's enough hardcore bands in Providence to fill up one disc and the Rev most likely shoot them all already.

toggletoggle post by KeithMutiny  at Feb 24,2005 3:58pm
i want to do something to help with this, but i feel so useless, hahaha

toggletoggle post by Josh_hates_you  at Feb 24,2005 4:04pm
you and i both keith it has gotten a bigger response than i thought.

all the local hardcore and metal bands would be like a 200 bands comp.

toggletoggle post by eddie  at Feb 24,2005 4:11pm edited Feb 24,2005 4:12pm
how bout having a cd for the paying bands and have it come with another disk thats a bunch of data mp3s for non paying bands. That way you can fit everyone with out giving out 5 cds in one package

toggletoggle post by kok still way too cool and nli at Feb 24,2005 4:21pm
since its gonna be an rttp disc, one way to keep it short would be just put bands on that are semi regs here....that kinda sux for other bands and funds tho....so maybe the mp3 disc is the solution.... most newer car and portable cd players play mp3s anyway.

toggletoggle post by KeithMutiny  at Feb 24,2005 4:23pm
fuck it, make it records, a 35 lp collection, you can get like 3 million of them for 20 bucks

I want underwear that say that.

toggletoggle post by dyingmuse   at Feb 24,2005 5:29pm
so what are we doing here? i'd be down with throwing like 100 bucks in and help promote, press and distro. anyone else serious...we have a little over a month and a half to do this....who's in? would 100 per band be enough? and how many cd's would we press?if there is 30+ bands 100 x's 30 is like 3000 si its about 1,100 to press 1000 cd's so we would be off to a good start there, add cost for shipping, artwork, photos, and t shirts...i think that would work!

toggletoggle post by dyingmuse   at Feb 24,2005 5:31pm
